TOMMY DOUBLEDAY
What School you attended? I went to Field, Emerson and Maine South. In May I graduated from Virginia Tech.
What sports do you play? Triathlon for 4 years, I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years prior to starting triathlon in college.

What inspired you to get started with your chosen sport? I wanted to continue swimming but not to the extreme level that I was. I used to run on my own time during the off season of swimming so when I got to college, my dad mentioned I should give triathlon a try since I did two of the three sports already. I joined the Virginia Tech Triathlon Club in October of 2020, fell in love with the sport and the people in it, and continued to work hard to get better each year.
Biking through the 56-mile bike portion of the Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts last June. I went on to take 2nd overall (out of 1220)

What is your proudest moment? Who do you have to thank for helping you get there? It’s hard to lock down one specific moment where I was proudest. I am most proud of the constant improvement I have been able to see. I continue to push myself each day to become the best I can be. This has created some great results including winning the 2024 Chicago Olympic Triathlon (1st out of 2482).
Who is someone you admire? I really admire Ben Kanute. He has had a very strong career racing in triathlons of all calibers including the Olympics and Ironmans. He has been able to accomplish great success while balancing family and other important needs in his life.
What advice do you have for others looking to get into your chosen sport? Take the risk and give it your all. Don’t be afraid to try something that could push you to your limits. Taking the risk and trying something difficult will only make you better. You might find that you don’t like it, and that’s more than okay, but it’s better to find you don’t like it than to not try at all.
Beyond sports, what do you like to do? I was a trumpet player for 11 years, including four years in the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. I am also a swim coach and plan to do some work with my Industrial Design degree.
What do you hope to accomplish someday?
My goal is to race professionally and make this my job. My plan is to start racing professionally next year and I’m hoping to build a portfolio of sponsors who are willing to back me and allow me to focus on becoming the best triathlete I possibly can. Racing professionally would include the Ironman Pro Series and hopefully, one day, the T100 Triathlon World Tour.
