Who are the members of your family? Mark (35)
Kathleen (Katie 35) Adalie (Addie 7) and Michael (Mikey 5)
Do you have any pets? No Pets yet but Mikey has been begging for a bunny.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in the neighborhood? Katie grew up in Rockford and Mark was born and raised in Park Ridge. We lived in Arlington Heights for 10 years but purchased our Park Ridge home in February of 2024.
Is there anything your neighbors might know you for? If you ever went to a Maine South Football game from 2004-2007 and stayed in your seat for half-time, Mark was the lead Drum Major of the school marching band and could be found conducting the musicians or performing mace routines.
How long have you been with your spouse and how did you meet? We were married for 10 years this September, but together for 15 after meeting at Marquette University. Katie was a flute player and Mark played Saxophone in the school’s concert and pep bands. Our relationship really began on a trip to the NCAA Basketball Tournament in Anaheim, California where we spent an off day exploring Disneyland with friends.
Tell us about your kids. We have two amazing children. Adalie is our oldest and Michael is our second child.
What schools do they go to? Both children attend Mary, Seat of Wisdom (Mark’s alma mater). Addie is in 2nd Grade and Mikey is in Kindergarten. They both are super friendly and love to play with other kids and are constantly making new friends wherever we go!
Are they involved in any sports / extracurricular activities? Addie has been involved in Irish Dancing since she was 4 and is now expanding her horizons to tennis, soccer and anything else she can do with friends! Mikey completed his first season of t-ball and is trying his foot at soccer.
What do they like to do for fun? Our favorite pastimes include exploring new playgrounds in the Chicagoland area, swimming, and spending time with friends and family. Addie has recently been learning how to roller skate and Mikey loves to spend any available day at the Zoo.
What do you like to do together as a family or do you have any traditions? As a family we never miss an opportunity to read together at night and catch up on the newest movies when it’s a rainy day. A few of our favorite family traditions include a summer trip to the Morton Arboretum to visit the Children’s Garden with their Nani, Apple Picking in the fall and a winter visit to see Santa at Macy’s in the city.
Tell us something interesting, unique, or unusual about your family. This may not be unique to just us, but every year we go to Hayward, Wisconsin. We stay on one of the local lakes with cousins and grandparents. This has been a family tradition since Katie’s mom was little and she went with her cousins. Katie then grew up going to the same lake with her cousins and we are continuing this with our kids. We stay in cabins and enjoy a week of boating, swimming and water skiing. Addie is looking forward to trying skiing this year! We also go hiking and have bonfires almost every night along with many game nights! Mark and his family have introduced Katie and the kids to Disney as well. This was always a special past time for him and his family. He not only likes the parks but enjoys learning about the history and work that goes into the different attractions/shows and rides. We also go to Fort Lauderdale frequently and stay at a family hotel
on the beach which Mark has also been going to since he was a child and his father has been visiting since he was also young. We love continuing on these long ongoing family traditions.
What is your profession? Katie is an Emergency Room Physician Assistant. Katie has worked in the ER for about 12 years now. Katie is originally from Rockford and for the first 10 years of her career, Katie worked in Elk Grove so she no longer has to commute so long everyday! Mark is a Senior Operations Manager at WW Grainger where he has been for 13 years now. He has worked in multiple different positions in the company and has enjoyed learning many aspects of the business and is currently working with the governmental aspect of the company.
What do you love doing? Katie loves walking and riding her bike on trails in the Forest Preserves in the area and especially during the Fall as this is my favorite season. Feeling the crisp air, hearing the leaves crunch and smelling the newly fallen leaves always has a way of making the day stress free.
Are you involved in any sports, activities, or hobbies? These days most of our time is spent exposing our children to as many sports, activities and experiences as possible so little time is left to focus on any one thing. Katie would love to become involved in a community band somewhere again.
Are you passionate about any charities / nonprofits / philanthropies? We are involved in our school and church community at Mary, Seat of Wisdom and want to get more involved with the Make A Wish Foundation in the future.
Are you involved in the community? Currently our community involvement is focused around our school and church community but as we become more established in our new home you’ll be sure to see us active around the town.
What are your favorite things to do around town? You can frequently find us at Centennial Pool and Park during the summer and our son Michael loves animals so we love the nature center as well. The library is another beloved spot! We have gone every year since the kids were born to the Uptown Park Ridge Christmas Winterfest to see the arrival of Santa.
What is your are favorite restaurants in Park Ridge? Holts and Harp and Fiddle.
Why did you choose to live in this neighborhood? We chose to come back home to Park Ridge as Mark grew up here and it has a special place in his heart as he fondly remembers his childhood here. We also came back to be closer to family as his parents and his brother’s family live here too. It is important to us to be near family as it is the most important thing to us.
What are you most thankful for? As you may already be able to tell we are most thankful for our family and the time we get to spend together.
First comes grief and then the paperwork, an inside look at the job of estate executor. After relatives die, there is a tedious, messy process of managing what they leave behind. The person designated to handle the estate, typically the executor named in the will, must determine what someone owned and owed, pay creditors and taxes, and distribute assets to heirs.
The job is often unwelcome, and sometimes comes as a surprise. No one expects to spend 200-plus hours completing the process, or that there will be family drama over the house or other possessions.
Many Americans underestimate the expense and time required. Often a lawyer is needed, or a court has to oversee the process. If there is no will, extra costs and delays are common. We have seen many cases where people named as executors don’t want the job or decline it.
At Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, we recommend that people writing their wills ensure their named executors are up to the job, and revisit the choice every few years. Naming a family member feels natural, but a grief-stricken relative might not be able to cope with the task. Picking one child can lead to resentment from siblings, while having co-executors can result in stalemates. Consider choosing an impartial third party -such as a friend, lawyer or accountant-especially in situations where conflict between heirs is likely.
The hard work of estate distribution includes the last income tax return, distribution of property and more. Absent a will, things get more complicated and can take longer, especially when unexpected events occur. Complications can easily arise such as finding heirs.
As specialists in estate planning, our team can help you get started or update an older estate plan. Given the evolving changes in life, as well as the uncertainty with tax and trust laws, everyone needs an estate plan. When done correctly, planning for the future sets the stage for smooth transitions with minimal disruption, especially during emotional and difficult times.
Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, Ltd. can provide expert assistance with your legal needs. Please feel free to contact us for more information, or if you need legal representation- info@madonia.com or 312-578-9300.
Running through the streets of
Exiting a 1.2 mile swim in a Half Ironman distance race at the 2023 Long Course National Championships in Daytona, Florida. I went on to take 2nd in my age group and 16th overall (out of 448).
What School you attended? I went to Field, Emerson and Maine South. In May I graduated from Virginia Tech.
What sports do you play? Triathlon for 4 years, I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years prior to starting triathlon in college.
What inspired you to get started with your chosen sport? I wanted to continue swimming but not to the extreme level that I was. I used to run on my own time during the off season of swimming so when I got to college, my dad mentioned I should give triathlon a try since I did two of the three sports already. I joined the Virginia Tech Triathlon Club in October of 2020, fell in love with the sport and the people in it, and continued to work hard to get better each year.
Biking through the 56-mile bike portion of the Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts last June. I went on to take 2nd overall (out of 1220)
What is your proudest moment? Who do you have to thank for helping you get there? It’s hard to lock down one specific moment where I was proudest. I am most proud of the constant improvement I have been able to see. I continue to push myself each day to become the best I can be. This has created some great results including winning the 2024 Chicago Olympic Triathlon (1st out of 2482).
Who is someone you admire? I really admire Ben Kanute. He has had a very strong career racing in triathlons of all calibers including the Olympics and Ironmans. He has been able to accomplish great success while balancing family and other important needs in his life.
What advice do you have for others looking to get into your chosen sport? Take the risk and give it your all. Don’t be afraid to try something that could push you to your limits. Taking the risk and trying something difficult will only make you better. You might find that you don’t like it, and that’s more than okay, but it’s better to find you don’t like it than to not try at all.
Beyond sports, what do you like to do? I was a trumpet player for 11 years, including four years in the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. I am also a swim coach and plan to do some work with my Industrial Design degree.
What do you hope to accomplish someday?
My goal is to race professionally and make this my job. My plan is to start racing professionally next year and I’m hoping to build a portfolio of sponsors who are willing to back me and allow me to focus on becoming the best triathlete I possibly can. Racing professionally would include the Ironman Pro Series and hopefully, one day, the T100 Triathlon World Tour.

July 29, 2024
6 pounds and 12 ounces 20 inches long
Big Sisters: Adeline & Amelia Proud Parents: Brett & Angie Mazurek
BY RESIDENT OLLIE (AND KIMBERLY) KLYTTA
MY MAMA CALLS ME her “little boy,” but my name is Ollie! I am a five-year-old tri-color English Bulldog with one blue and one brown eye. I live in the Old Town section of Park Ridge. My family has been taking care of bulldogs more than 20 years so they were not shocked when a breeder contacted them about adopting me. They knew there must have been something going on, but they were still happy to adopt me. I had the typical bulldog health problems, but also had no hip sockets! My mama was shocked when she saw the x-ray. However, as I grew, my muscles and ligaments got stronger and now, I have no problem being active.
I live with a family of five and a bully brother who is much less active. I have a lot of puppy energy and can play all day long. You will usually find me with a toy in my mouth. I am crazy about my human brother, Alexander. I crawl on him, put a paw on each shoulder and wait until he looks at me. When he
does, I lick him. If he breaks my gaze, I stop licking but as soon as he engages my eyes again, I give him more kisses. He’s my best friend.
In the rare moments I am not playing, I nap in all sorts of crazy positions. Sitting up with my head back, stuffed between cushions on the sofa. My mama has a lot of photos of me in silly positions. I make my family laugh often, but especially when they find me in one of my awkward poses. I like to go on walks and usually go uptown by the restaurants. It is fun for me to say hello to people. My biggest “pet peeve” is when my water bowl is empty. I will flip it over and over until my mama comes over and fills it.
Perhaps you have seen me! Overall, I am an easygoing, friendly guy with a lot of personality. My family considers me their son/brother and I couldn’t be more thankful. I know we bullies require a bit more attention, but they know I am worth it. I hope to see you around Park Ridge!
10 year old dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes
BY RESIDENT SARAH WALTER
November is National Diabetes Month. This month is a time to raise awareness and support people affected by diabetes.
AVERY’S STORY
Our 10-year-old daughter, Avery Walter, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on January 31st of this year. What began as a routine doctor’s visit suddenly turned into a life-altering experience when we learned Avery was in DKA (diabetic coma) and had T1D. In the months since, Avery has shown remarkable strength and resilience. She has transitioned from being fearful of needles to managing multiple injections and finger pricks daily, and now wears a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and an Omnipod (insulin pump). Avery’s diagnosis is particularly poignant for us because her grandfather was a pioneer in diabetes research. He invented the first technology for test strips utilized by portable glucose test monitor,
and his groundbreaking work has come full circle to impact our family directly. This connection deepens our commitment to finding a cure for T1D and supporting the ongoing research that will make a difference. Demonstrating her own dedication to this cause, Avery recently organized “Avery’s Army Lemonade Stand,” a fundraising event that showcased her determination and the community’s support. Through her hard work and the generosity of our neighbors, she raised an incredible $1,500 for T1D research. We were honored to have the Mayor of Park Ridge visit the stand, highlighting the community’s solidarity and commitment to finding a cure.
Tell us about the organization that Avery is raising money for, what is the organization’s mission and who does the organization benefit: Founded in 1970 by families whose loved ones had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D), Breakthrough T1D (formally
JDFR) is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. As the leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization, they help make everyday life better while driving toward cures. They are opening doors that were once closed by T1D diagnosis. Leading the way to more effective solutions by connecting the brightest minds to advance treatments, influence policy, and improve access to care. driving innovation forward, we will make T1D a thing of the past.
Where or how can others support Avery or this organization? Avery participated in the Breakthrough T1D walk on September 29th in Chicago. Avery’s Team “Avery’s Army” raised over $20,000. Her team was the number 1 team for fundraising. You can support Avery by donating to Breakthrough T1D and joining Avery’s Army next year and attend future fundraising events - her lemonade stand will be an annual pop up event!
What are you most thankful for? I’m most thankful that Avery is okay and that we now know what’s going on. For months, I sensed something was off but couldn’t pinpoint it. Mom gut is real! The night before her diagnosis, I was with a friend, sharing how I had pushed for a doctor’s visit because we needed to figure this out. That persistence, along with the incredible support of our friends and family, led us to today—a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and the hope for a cure one day!

BY KATIE SHAMIS, CHAIR OF THE GARDEN + GO GREEN COMMITTEE
RESIDENT KATIE SHAMIS is a lifelong gardener. She took on the Roosevelt Elementary School garden project in June 2024.
Why is this garden so important to our community?
We’ve turned a small grass area into a thriving gathering place where students learn about their food from seed to spoon and understand the value of nurturing themselves, their community, and their environment. The children’s excitement for garden time is incredible. They actively want to try new vegetables, gush daily about how the garden is growing, and seek to learn about the plants, insects, and ecosystem. Our weekly ‘Picking Parties’ donate all of our organic harvests to local food pantries, and our Tigers want to help as many neighbors as possible—one harvest alone had over 14 lbs of green beans!
Any plans to expand the project to other schools?
I’m working with District 64’s Leadership to have a garden at every school and with Park Ridge officials to diversify city planters and include foodscapingwe can maintain their beauty while feeding hungry bellies. Community donations of organic compost, raised garden beds, garden tools, and seedlings are always needed. Anyone who wants to get their hands dirty is welcome to join our movement! Follow us on social (@vk.gardens) for volunteering opportunities.
Are there any important events coming up with your organization?
In the winter of 2025, we are hosting mushroom inoculation and garden planning events.
A special thank you to Vego Gardens, High Mowing Organic Seeds, and Lurvey’s Landscaping, who generously donated raised garden beds, new trellis systems, organic seeds, and compost, making this space possible.
9/11 MEMORIAL SERVICE honoring the Brave First Responders and all who lost their lives. Hosted by the Park Ridge Police Department, Park Ridge Fire Department, and Park Ridge Police Department Chaplains.
ON SEPTEMBER 21, the Kiwanis Club of Park Ridge served over 380 breakfasts and raised over $14,500! Proceeds from this event benefit local charities for children, teens, and young adults. Many thanks to Kiwanis for all the good they do in our community! Stroll Park Ridge was a proud sponsor of this fun and yummy annual event!

Young resident launches not for profit; raises awareness about special needs and mental health
BY RESIDENT ELLA GOLDKLANG
MY NAME IS ELLA GOLDKLANG, and I live on South Clifton. We have lived in Park Ridge for seven years, and we previously resided in Atlanta. I am a rising junior at Maine South High School. In my family, I have my parents, my older brother, my younger brother, my younger sister, a cat, and a dog. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, shopping, going to Starbucks, tanning, volunteering at Have Dreams, having summer barbecues with my family, and having family city outings.
My organization is called Meaningful Muffins and it is a nonprofit muffin company dedicated to raising awareness about various special needs and mental health conditions. We highlight specific conditions, one at a time, and donate 100% of the profits to an organization that supports individuals with the highlighted condition. Also, we spread awareness through our Instagram and my website.
My inspiration behind this organization is my family! One of my siblings has autism, so my family constantly prioritizes promoting the inclusion and social diversity of special needs conditions. Having a special needs condition is something that makes an individual unique and amazing! This organization is very fulfilling due to the fact that it allows me to really make a difference in the life of my family and even the community while pursuing one of my passions. Each muffin that is purchased works to promote inclusivity which benefits everyone.
Even though my business is in the early stages, the most exciting experience has been donating muffins to the Emergency Medicine Residency Conference at Resurrection Hospital. I was able to provide the hard-working doctors a delicious treat and educate them about inclusion which deeply impacted both of us.
My dream is to have the Park Ridge community be able to learn about my business, or taste one of my muffins. One muffin equates to one stride for inclusion and awareness.
I hope to raise a large sum of money, over the next few years, to benefit all of our local charities that deeply aid our special needs community. So far, my business has advocated about inclusivity and awareness for autism and we raised $1,223 which was donated to Have Dreams. That is around 306 muffins sold! Now, Meaningful Muffins is highlighting Down Syndrome, and all of the money will be donated to the Amina Grace Memorial Fund.
If you would like to place an order or donate to Meaningful Muffins, please contact me at meaningfulmuffinsbyella@gmail.com
Be a part of this 22 year tradition! You can make a blanket too for those in need!
BY RESIDENT TERI COLLINS
MEET TERI COLLINS, one of the organizers of Blanket of Dreams.
How long have you been doing this and tell us how it started? We have been doing Blanket of Dreams for 22 years. It started as a one-day project to sew blankets for the homeless. It was sponsored by the Women’s Group at Mary, Seat of Wisdom “Counsel of Catholic Women.” We had about 12 sewing machines going with approximately 20 - 30 women helping and we sewed squares together to make a blanket. That year we made 59 blankets. About halfway through the day, someone asked me when we were going to do it the next year and the project was born. We have been doing it ever since but we have changed the type of blankets we make to cut and tie fleece blankets so you don’t have to know how to sew to make a blanket. Every year we made more blankets to where our average total for a day is around 600 -700 blankets. Many of the original sewers have passed away and
the kids working with us have grown up and now bring their children to it.
Why is it so important to our community? There are a couple of benefits to our community. It allows people of Park Ridge to come together to do a service project that helps others less fortunate and it’s a great way to kick off the holidays because it is always the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The camaraderie and fellowship that you get from doing a service project for others is one of the intangible gifts you give yourself that is nothing but good all the way around - for the blanket makers and for the recipients. Another benefit is that you can make new friends. It is a very welcoming and joyful day. We try to make everyone comfortable by serving free refreshments to our blanket makers while they are with us. People come and learn how to make a blanket and then they can work with others to show them how to make one, and on and on.
Is there a way that others can get involved or support your organization?
Yes, come and make a blanket (or two or three) with us on November 23, anytime between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm at the Clark Ministry Center at 1335 South Clifton at Mary Seat of Wisdom Parish. Bring 4 yards of fleece - most people buy two yards of a solid and two yards of a print and a pair of scissors to cut material. If you cannot afford it, we have some you can use. You can come any time, no need to make an appointment. Come for an hour or stay all day and bring your friends. It is a great intergenerational project. We have several grandmas who bring their grandchildren to make blankets with them. All children must have an adult with them (troop leader, parents, etc.).
I think the ideal age to start is at age 8 because by then kids can cut and tie by themselves. Families, Scout Troops, sports teams, civic organizations, work groups, friend groups, are examples of some of the people who have participated. It’s definitely not just
women. We have many boys and men participate. If you own a restaurant or food service business, you could donate some food for the workers. If you cannot come, you can make a cash donation to Mary, Seat of Wisdom Blanket of Dreams help with supplies or go and buy some fleece and drop it off at the Parish Business Office at 920 Granville, Park Ridge. Blankets are being donated to The Franciscan Outreach, La Casa Norte and Our Lady of Angels Parish which all serve the homeless and less fortunate in Chicago.
Are there any important events coming up with your organization?
Women of Hope and Wisdom at Mary Seat do many service projects throughout the year like parish food drives and donating gifts to the less fortunate at Christmas time.
What are you most thankful for?
I am most thankful for my family and for living in a community that is so generous and supportive of good causes. I am also grateful for all of the people who have supported Blanket of
Dreams over the years. It takes many people to make Blanket of Dreams happen so smoothly. There are the blanket makers, the staff at Mary Seat of Wisdom who help facilitate the use of the facility, the guilds who donate food for the participants, the Knights of Columbus who help pack up the blankets and deliver them to their respective organizations, Ascension Resurrection for their donation to buy fleece material and my husband, Peter and my daughter, Katie and all of my friends who have helped with anything and everything to make this happen year after year. Big Thanks to Father Derek, Joan Mattingly, Julie Due, Gene, Jean Martino, Dom Colletti, all the women who come to cut the fleece the night before, Tony Viola and I know I am forgetting many other people who are such helpers and doers!

Sitting down to write my article this month, I kept thinking about waiting. You see, I am a procrastinator and waiting is what we do best, much to the frustration of others in a lot of cases, which I am sure my wife, mother and editor can confirm. A famous pro-waiting quote is “Good things come to those who wait”, which I always thought was an Abraham Lincoln quote
or at least from those old Guinness ads. It turns out it is originally from an English poet named Violet Fane. There are some antiwaiting quotes too, such as “If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.” Which is attributed to Lemony Snicket.
I am not sure if I am Pro or Anti when it comes to waiting, but I do know it is a part of life we all experience regularly. A lot of my favorite moments have happened while waiting. My wife and I once got stuck in an airport waiting to fly on standby and while we trekked from gate to gate, we played games, talked, and laughed. Now I have multiple funny stories I have shared with folks from that experience.
When I was in the Marines, we had a saying called hurry up and wait, because it always felt like we would have long periods of time with nothing and all of a sudden it was “GO” time. It was during the waiting that we hung out and solidified those friendships. Heck! My wife waited a long time for me to pop the question, longer than most would
have, I am sure. And thanks to her waiting, I have my wacky little family.
I don’t think I gained any additional insight on waiting or not, but it did get me thinking and writing, which is what I needed to do all along. Not sure, after all this, if I am PRO-waiting or ANTIwaiting. I guess I will just need to wait and see….

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN as the baker in the family. There is nothing I would rather do. It is always nice having active participants (taste testers) year around too. While I do enjoy baking year-round, my favorite time to bake is the Fall. Going to pick fresh apples and coming home to make apple pies, apple sauce, apple crisps, plus many more is why I look forward to the Fall Season so much! My go to recipe for the beginning of fall is an Apple Cinnamon Swirl Loaf. This loaf recipe may seem complicated, but I assure you it is not. Happy Fall!
INGREDIENTS
• 1 ½ cups All Purpose Flour
• 1 ½ tsp Baking Powder
• ½ tsp Salt
• ½ cup (1 cup) softened Butter
• ½ cup White Sugar
• 2 tsp Vanilla
• 2 Eggs
• ½ cup Milk
• Apple Mixture
• ½ cup Brown Sugar
• ¼ tsp Cinnamon
• 1 large Apple (peeled, cored & chopped small) – I usually go with a Granny Smith or Honey Crisp
Topping
• 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
• ¼ tsp Cinnamon
Glaze
• ¾ Powdered Sugar
• ¼ tsp Cinnamon
• 2 tbsp Water
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour an 9X5 loaf pan.
2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon and apples. Set aside.
4. In a mixing bowl, in a small bowl combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside
5. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, sugar and vanilla together, on medium-high speed until smooth and pale.
6. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until incorporated.
7. Add half of the flour mixture, mix, add half the milk, mix. Add the remaining flour mixture, mix, add the
remaining milk and mix. *Do not over mix – it will cause the bread to be dense
8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and top it with half of the apple mixture. With a knife or skewer, swirl through the batter lightly.
9. Pour the remaining batter on top and then the remaining apple mixture. With a knife or skewer, swirl through the batter a couple of times in both directions. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
10. Bake for about 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
11. Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 15 –20 minutes. While the bread is cooling, whisk together the glaze ingredients. Remove the bread from the pan and place it on a cooling rack. Drizzle the glaze over the bread. *Be sure to have a plate or sheet pan under the cooling rack to not make a drizzle mess

November is here with trees of gold
Filled with memories of times of old
The Indian Summer days have passed
It all went by so very fast
Soon we will gather together
Share stories and remember
Thanksgiving I remember as a time of family
From my youngest years was all it could be
Aunts, uncles and cousins from the city came too
For mom there was always so much to do
A giant turkey seemed twenty four hours to cook
And all the other food that the meal took
Vegetables of every kind and pies for dessert
Mashed potatoes, gravy that dripped on my shirt
Cranberry jelly I never liked from a can
All after days of cooking using every pot and pan
But what I remember most after all these years
Is the strong feeling of family as they’d all appear
Back then I remember snow on the ground
And Heidi on the TV and us running all around
Adults had cocktails and told stories of the past
It all created memories that would forever last
To top it all off you see, we knew that not far away
Was winter break and the magic of Christmas Day
I hope you all have happy holiday memories too
May you be blessed with such joy in all you do!

Local dog walker, Mary Poole, has become friendly with one of Park Ridge’s mail carriers, Anna Grimshaw. While Anna was walking her mail route, she noticed a cat stuck between the storm door and wood door of a house. Anna looked Mary Poole up on Facebook and reached out to tell her so Mary could notify the owner.
Because of Anna’s kindness, going above
and beyond the call of mail carrying duty, Mary was able to notify the owner (who was very grateful! The cat had apparently started to follow its owner out on her way to work and had gotten stuck between the doors). Mary then went to the home and let the cat into the house. What a terrific mail carrier!
We are so lucky to have her in Park Ridge!
