ABOUT AOP LANGUEDOC

Founded in 2007, AOP Languedoc is the regional “flagship” appellation within the greater Languedoc wine region and is also the largest, accounting for 30% of Languedoc’s total wine production. AOP Languedoc is an inspiring appellation that extends over 24,000 acres, representing the collective mission of 531 winemaking communes to create wines that are a true reflection of the vibrant and living terroir of the region. Sustainability and biodiversity are sharedvalues,representinganoutstandingcommitmenttoenvironmentalcertification.

TERROIR AND WINE STYLES

AOP Languedoc stretches over 150 miles southwest from Nîmes on the Mediterranean to the Spanish border, including coastal vineyards and the hilly and mountainous terrain of the Cévennes and the Montagne Noire. The varied geography, climate and soils of AOP Languedoc allow for a lively production of red, white and rosé wines. The U.S. is the number one export market in the world for AOP Languedoc wines with exponential growth across styles.

● AOP Languedoc wines are “Good Vibes, Good Wines.” In tune with its surroundings, this regional appellation in the south of France is constantly surprising the palate with unique blends of more than 15 approved grape varieties between red and white grapes.

● AOP Languedoc offers a wide range of styles and high quality wines cultivated in the sunny, warm and welcoming Mediterranean region, produced in tune with the “higher vibration” of nature surrounding it. While benefiting from a very diverse terroir with hills, mountains and coasts, AOP Languedoc is united by a Mediterranean influence.

● The winemakers of AOP Languedoc are dynamic and enterprising personalities that come from diverse backgrounds. The appellation has many stories to tell encompassing a range of wine styles, winemakers, terroirs, and grape varieties.

● AOP Languedoc is focused on promoting red, white and rosé styles. AOP Languedoc has a “cool” factor, a warm and open disposition with many surprises to discover.

● Winemakers have a strong connection to their diverse terroir and do all they can to help protect the land and adapt to changing growing conditions. Many domaines have sustainable measures implemented at all stages of the winemaking process, from grape cultivation and harvesting, to production, packing and shipping.

AOP LANGUEDOC BY THE NUMBERS

Officially established in 2007, AOP Languedoc is the largest appellation in the Languedoc region of south of France.

AOP Languedoc accounts for 30% of wine production in the Languedoc region, spanning 24,000 acres.

AOP Languedoc encompasses 531 winemaking communes with an historic reputation for quality.

AOP Languedoc’s expansive growing area extends from Nîmes on the Mediterranean Sea to the Spanish border, including coastal vineyards and the hilly and mountainous terrain bordered by the Cévennes and the Montagne Noire.

30% of AOP Languedoc producers are certified sustainable with a goal of reaching 60% environmental certification by 2028. 15% of producers are certified organic.

The U.S. is the #1 export market for AOP Languedoc wines. AOP Languedoc wines have experienced a 175% growth in volume and a 250% growth in value in the U.S. in the last eight years.
