In every family, it’s easy to take for granted the people we care about the most—the ones we see and spend time with every day. We assume they know how much we appreciate them, even if we don’t always say it or show it. But the truth is, a few kind words or small acts of thoughtfulness can make all the difference in helping others feel loved and valued.
The same is true for our work family. We spend a big part of our lives together—collaborating, problemsolving, and working toward common goals. While we’re all busy, it doesn’t take any extra time to hold a door open, say hello in passing, offer a hand to lift a box, or share a quick word of encouragement. Those little gestures can brighten someone’s day and help build a culture where everyone feels seen, appreciated and connected.
I once read a study that said people are much happier at work when they have a good friend there. I believe that’s true. When we take time to get to know each other—to listen, laugh, and support one another—work feels lighter and life feels richer.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve always enjoyed the lunch hikes that I have been taking team members on for the past 20 years. It’s not just about the exercise or being outdoors—it’s about connection. My hope is that every group of four or five people who head out for a walk together comes back with a shared memory, a new friendship, and a reason to smile and say hello in the hallway for years to come.
As we look ahead to our next company celebration, shared meal, or event, I’d like to challenge each of us to make one new friend. Take the time to strike up a conversation and learn something interesting about someone you don’t know well—what they love to do for fun, where they grew up, or what brings them joy. And hopefully, they’ll learn something about you too. Those small moments of curiosity and kindness are what turn coworkers into teammates—and teammates into friends.
Let’s keep showing kindness—in our words, our actions, and our everyday interactions. It’s the easiest way to make our workplace a little brighter, our days a little better, and our company a little stronger.
Stay safe, people are counting on you,
Tony

What inspired you to apply for the Children’s English Camp?
As a non-native English speaker, I know how learning the language can open doors. English gave me confidence and new opportunities, and I want to help children in our Honduras community gain that same advantage and build brighter futures.
How does this opportunity reflect your personal values or goals? I’ve always dreamed of experiencing different cultures and learning how people live. Through this camp, the kids will learn from us, and I’ll learn from them. It aligns with my values of growth, connection, and service.
What’s one thing you hope to give - and one thing you hope to gain?
I hope to inspire courage and confidence in the kids. In return, I want to gain a deeper understanding of people from different backgrounds and feel fulfilled through meaningful connection and shared growth.
Describe your job using only seven words a seven-year-old could understand I help invent gloves with secret powers.
