Gulfport High had eight students named National Merit Semifinalist this year. To our knowledge, this is the most that GHS has ever had, and we have the most on the coast this year! Hugh O’Brian Leadership Congratulations to Crosby P. and Zenaida C. They will represent GHS at the Hugh O'Brian leadership conference at Mississippi College. Both of these students went through a competitive selection process.

Congratulations to Gulfport High’s Yearbook Staff. They won the “best yearbook in state” for the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association. This is their second year winning best in state, a huge accomplishment for the yearbook staff. It is a competitive process that judges the book as a whole; this includes design, photography, writing/copy, and theme cohesion.

Ms. Windham’s culinary students won the regional Jr. Chef competition.

They compete in the spring for Jr. Chef’s State Competition in Raymond, MS.

STEM’S Transitional Portable Housing UNIT The Stem institute worked with Back Bay Mission of Biloxi to design a transitional portable housing unit for the homeless. It was created by Mr. Huffman and his students after being awarded a $5,000 grant by Harbor Freight’s Tool for Schools.

The prototype unit comes with USB ports, is completely washable, and can serve as a transition place for the homeless.

Schneider Electric hosted a great GIRLS IN STEAM Conference at the William Carey Tradition Campus. Over 18 schools from across Mississippi brought 8th grade girls interested in STEAM careers. The young ladies got a Q&A session from professional females who work in the STEAM industries and were exposed to STEAM breakout sessions with sponsors: Trafera, GenSea, and REC drone robotics.

Our very own STEAM students: Raegan M., April S., and Alicia Y. were invited to speak to the middle school girls about their experiences with Team Fusion 364 and what they are learning in the STEM institute at Gulfport High School.

Bayou View Middle and Gulfport Central Middle School were excited to bring the following students to this event: Layla B., Raniya C., Amelia F., Marlie H., Lindsey T., Lily C., Susie K., Kimani G., Raima M., Brandy C.

Veterans

November 7th Gulfport High School’s Academic Institutes of Gulfport hosted a Veterans Day event. We are thankful for our sponsors, Gulfport Behavioral Health System and The First Bank. All branches of the military were invited to attend. As the Veterans arrived on campus they were greeted by the AIG Ambassadors and beautiful music performed our Gulfport High School Orchestra. The culinary arts department did an excellent job preparing a delicious Veterans Day breakfast. After breakfast, our Veterans had a celebration in the gym. We were honored to have Sergeant Major Milstead as our keynote speaker. Our JROTC added a special touch to the event by adding a cake cutting ceremony for the 248th birthday celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps. Our Admiral Band honorably performed each fight song for all military branches. Concluding the ceremony, AIG Ambassadors gave optional campus tours as the Veterans viewed the creative art provided by the GHS Art Department. It was great day honoring the men and women who serve our country.

GULFPORT CENTRAL MIDDLE CHOIR The Spirit of Southern Acapella Group from The University of Southern Mississippi visited and performed for the GCMS Choir.

They showed our students just how far music can take you, and discussed many scholarships opportunities offered regardless of major.

BAYOU VIEW MIDDLE BAND

The Bayou View middle school band had their first concert of the season. Playing selections like Jingle Bells, My Favorite things, and more.

GULFPORT CENTRAL MIDDLE BAND The GCMS Band had a great football season. The students were able to perform stand tunes for the audience and football team.

BAYOU VIEW MIDDLE CHOIR

Select 7th and 8th Graders in the Bayou View Middle School choir program performed the National Anthem at the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of Ocean Aero. The students had the privilege to perform for Governor Tate Reeves and Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith.

BAYOU VIEW & CENTRAL MIDDLE STRINGS Both BVMS & GCMS strings performed in the 2023 Fall Strings Department Concert.

GULFPORT ADMIRAL BAND

The Admiral Band received all Superior Ratings at the MHSSA Region V State Marching Evaluation for thier 2023- 2024 show Missunderstood .

GULFPORT ADMIRAL CHOIR

The Choral Department of Gulfport High School presented “Singe Feaste” their Renaissance Madrigal Dinner. A night filled with acting and singing.

ADMIRAL THEATRE The Admiral Theatre had their first production of the season, Alice In Wonderland. All costumes, props and more were created by students and staff.

GULFPORT STRINGS

GULFPORT ART The art department has worked deligently though the year creating multiple works of art. This includes art for The Arm Forces celebration.

American Violinist Julian Rhee visited the Strings Department. He performed an excerpt from Tchaikovsky's violin concerto and worked with the class on their current music.

GCMS and BVMS 8th graders got to participate in Pathways to Possibilities Career Expo in November. The AIG Ambassadors volunteered to assist vendors both days.

28th Street Elementary 4th graders toured the AIG Institutes for career pathways.

Construction Science toured the new Job Corp facility with Roy Anderson Corp.

CTE students from each institute visited Pass Road Elementary for Career Day.

Automotive Students Learn about MGCCC Mr. Caylor's Auto Mechanics Year 2 students attended MGCCC's Automotive Open House. They toured the facility, spoke with employers, learned about internships, and participated in a Q & A session with an instructor. This was a great learning experience for these students to explore career and educational opportunities in this field.

CAB students from the Business, Marketing & Finance classes visited USM Gulf Park Campus

Energy Academy students toured MS Power’s Plant Watson and viewed the Lineman Rodeo.
