Mr. Rogers took some of the WGTV students to tv station WLOX for an intersession workshop on broadcast journalism.
The students met with former WGTV student and GHS alum Flora Dedeaux. Flora took the students through the basics of the production of news at WLOX giving them insights to how the news is gathered and then turned into the stories we see on television. Flora is the Digital Content Manager for WLOX, and she showed the students what she does in running the WLOX app, Facebook, and other social media platforms.
Then the students got to meet with midday anchor Jaime Dorris who spoke to them about news writing, reporting, and anchoring a newscast.
The Admiral Ocean crew then stayed in the studio to observe the live broadcast of the Midday show, getting to discuss with Ms. Dorris and meteorologist Taylor Graham during commercial breaks.
It was great learning experience for these students. They and Mr. Rogers are eager to put what they learned to use in upcoming episodes of Admiral Ocean.
