8K Association Maps Wide-Ranging CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025 Presence

BOOTH 4501 The 8K Association’s comprehensive plan for this year’s CEDIA Expo/CIX includes sponsoring a new 20- x 30- foot exhibit located in a high traffic area on the show floor. This 8K Pavilion is specifically designed to highlight the entire 8K ecosystem and workflow, from content creation and production to distribution, integration and viewing in the home. All these areas will engage and educate CEDIA Expo/CIX visitors about the potential role that 8K technology can play in the new “giant screen” era of more immersive and super-realistic commercial and residential entertainment and the opportunities this affords both AV specialty dealers and system integrators.

The 8K Pavilion includes more than a dozen partner companies, including new and upcoming 8K hardware from leading manufacturers like Epson, JVC, Kaleidescape and Samsung. It also features a variety of 8K content, including film scanning, film transfers and native films from providers like Warner Bros Discovery, IMAX, and Savage Studios; as well as 8K gaming, documentary and upscaled content from AMD, The Explorers and 4by4. New advancements in 8K processing will also be shown by

technology companies like INTEL and Spin Digital; along with the latest developments in 8K integration and connectivity from specialists like Astro, AudioQuest, AVPro, BZBGear and Panasonic.

Additionally, the 8K Association is working with Emerald to conduct a number of promotional activities throughout CEDIA Expo/CIX, including an opening day press briefing; trade ads; email blasts; social media; and digital signage in the convention center lobby. The 8K Association will also be hosting a series of panel discussions throughout the conference at the 8K Pavilion (Booth 4501). Taken as a whole, all of this represents one of the largest multiindustry presentations in CEDIA Expo history.

According to Juan Reyes, Executive Director of the 8K Association, “Simply stated, our goal at CEDIA Expo/CIX is to underscore why 8K technology provides a more immersive and super-realistic viewing experience and delivers a powerful ‘wow’ factor that goes beyond the reach of 4K. In short, 8K is the first home entertainment platform that combines the best of these new AI-driven concepts, which makes it ideal for the CI channel.”

Performance In-Wall Subwoofer & Backbox

Performance In-Wall Subwoofer & Backbox

The Bass You Crave. The Integration You Demand.

In the pursuit of immersive audio and modern design harmony, today’s listeners expect more than just sound—they expect a truly captivating experience. They want thunderous bass that elevates music, movies, and games without compromising the clean lines of contemporary living. Architectural audio has come a long way, offering discreet, innovative solutions that blend effortlessly into the home. But when it comes to bass—the emotional core of every soundtrack—compromise has long been the standard. Conventional inwall subwoofers often fall short, delivering inconsistent, unpredictable results and underwhelming performance. The walls meant to hide them often limit their potential.

Until now. The Paradigm SFC12-SYS redefines what’s possible, fusing uncompromising lowfrequency performance with elegant, discrete integration. It’s not just about saving space— it’s about elevating sound. No trade-offs. No guesswork. Just the bass you’ve always wanted, precisely engineered and perfectly tuned for the spaces you live in.

Luxury Audio: Five Trends Reshaping the High-End Market

As the luxury audio market navigates a landscape of economic uncertainty, shifting consumer expectations, and technological innovation, new trends are emerging that redefine what premium sound means in 2025 and beyond. Futuresource Consulting’s latest report reveals how brands are adapting to a more diverse, design-conscious, and digitally connected audience. Here are five key developments that are shaping the future of luxury audio.

ACTIVE LOUDSPEAKERS GO HIGH-END

This trend is not just about convenience-it’s about redefining the listening experience. With builtin amplification and DSP, active loudspeakers offer precision tuning and room adaptation, making them ideal for modern living spaces. Integrators are finding success with these systems in high-end apartments and media rooms, where space is at a premium but expectations for sound quality remain high. Once considered the domain of lifestyle buyers, active loudspeakers are now making serious inroads into the audiophile space. Brands like Focal and Dynaudio are launching ultra-premium models-such as the $70k Diva Mezza Utopia-that combine highperformance audio with sleek, integrated design. This shift reflects a broader trend: consumers want uncompromised sound without the complexity of separates. For luxury buyers, convenience and performance are no longer mutually exclusive.

TARIFFS RESHAPE GLOBAL STRATEGY

Integrators and dealers should be aware of shifting availability and pricing. Brands are exploring alternative sourcing strategies, including domestic chip production and partnerships with non-tariffed regions. This could lead to product delays or spec changes, making communication with clients more critical than ever.

The introduction of new U.S. import tariffs is sending shockwaves through the luxury audio supply chain. While many brands manufacture locally in Europe or the U.S., rising component costsespecially for chips sourced from China-are forcing companies to rethink pricing, sourcing, and market focus. Reciprocal tariffs are also impacting overseas sales. The result: a

more fragmented global market and a renewed emphasis on supply chain resilience.

SOUNDBARS BECOME LUXURY SYSTEMS

These soundbars are increasingly being specified in luxury hospitality projects and high-end multidwelling units. With Dolby Atmos support and seamless integration into smart home ecosystems, they offer a compelling alternative to traditional setups. Designers appreciate their minimal footprint and aesthetic flexibility, while clients enjoy immersive sound without clutter.

Soundbars are no longer just TV accessories. In 2025, luxury soundbars are being positioned as fullyfledged audio systems. With spatial audio, custom finishes, and seamless integration into media rooms, these products are appealing to design-conscious consumers who want high-end sound without the footprint of traditional stereo setups. This evolution is opening new doors for brands in the custom install and interior design channels.

DESIGN AND PERSONALIZATION DRIVE DESIRE

This shift toward design-led audio is creating new collaboration opportunities between integrators and interior designers. Products like B&O’s Beosound A5, available in oak and aluminum finishes, are being selected as much for their visual impact as their sonic performance. Expect more crossover with fashion and furniture brands as audio becomes a central part of lifestyle expression.

Luxury audio is becoming as much about aesthetics as acoustics. Brands like Bang & Olufsen and Devialet are turning speakers and headphones

into collectible design objects, offering limited editions, seasonal colours, and fashion collaborations. This strategy taps into emotional value and lifestyle appeal, helping brands differentiate in a crowded market. Personalization platforms like B&O’s Atelier are also enabling consumers to tailor products to their tastes, an increasingly important factor for high-net-worth individuals.

NEW BUYER SEGMENTS TAKE THE LEAD

The luxury audio market is undergoing a transformation, driven by changing consumer preferences and a broader, more diverse audience. Futuresource’s latest segmentation identifies three distinct buyer personas: Audiophiles, Lifestyle Customers, and Newcomers. Each group engages with the category in its own way. Audiophiles remain loyal to stereo separates and wired headphones, valuing precision and fidelity above all else. Lifestyle Customers prioritize design, ease of use, and seamless integration into their living spaces. Meanwhile, Newcomers, often younger and more digitally native, are driving growth in wireless speakers and vinyl, drawn by the tactile and nostalgic appeal of physical media.

One of the most significant shifts is the rise of female buyers, who now account for 43 percent of vinyl purchasers. This growing influence is encouraging brands to reconsider everything from product design and marketing language to retail environments. As the audience for luxury audio becomes more diverse, integrators and manufacturers who understand these evolving personas and tailor their messaging and solutions accordingly will be best placed to capture future growth.

As the luxury audio market continues to evolve, these five trends highlight the importance of agility, design thinking, and consumer insight. From active loudspeakers to genderinclusive marketing, the future of high-end sound is being shaped by a new generation of buyers and a redefinition of what luxury means in the audio space.

Sony Teases Game-Changing Next Generation Display Technology

Fresh off its BRAVIA 8 II (K65XR80M2) QD-OLED being crowned “King of TV” at this year’s Value Electronics’ TV Shootout — Sony’s seventh consecutive King of TV title — the company is already looking ahead to its next-generation flagship display.

This all-new display panel architecture will feature independent RGB LED backlighting, which isn’t just an evolution of Mini LED technology, but rather a fundamental shift in how TVs deliver light, color, and contrast.

According to Sony’s Technology Manager, JT Austin, the new RGB LED backlighting is the culmination of over two decades’ worth of work and research that began with the implementation of local dimming, dating back to the original Sony Qualia fullarray RGB LED backlit display released 20 years ago. Sony further evolved this technology by implementing its Backlight Master Drive technology in 2016; however, the resulting picture quality improvement from these new displays is so profound, Austin compared it to seeing 4K for the first time.

The new RGB LED backlighting further advances the backlighting control Sony introduced recently in its BRAVIA 9 series, allowing each RGB color to light independently, resulting in high color purity and images with a vibrant, wide color gamut.

While the BRAVIA 9 features 22-bit dimming, the new technology is equipped with Sony’s proprietary advanced backlight control technology, designed to maximize the panel’s advanced characteristics, with a total of 96 bits of processing dedicated to scene-adaptive control. This enables faithful reproduction of delicate hues and subtle gradations of light across every corner of the display, more accurately delivering the content creator’s intent. By individually controlling the brightness of the densely packed RGB LEDs, bright areas and specular highlights won’t be clipped, and will adjust the nuances in dark areas without crushing blacks.

Additionally, with a full array of RGB LEDs instead of the current white or blue LEDs with color filters, the display will deliver dramatic increases in color volume and brightness, covering over 99% of the DCI-P3 color space and approximately 90% of the BT.2020. Austin said this new tech delivers

unprecedented brightness and will be the brightest display Sony has ever released, with the ability to achieve peak brightness levels over 4000 nits, matching the performance of Sony’s BVM reference studio grading monitor. Further, it will be able to reproduce subtle color differences and accurate colors without color shifts.

The new displays will leverage all the advantages of Mini LED in terms of brightness, while also eliminating many of the challenges. Specifically, the new display will dramatically reduce visible blooming, increase contrast, produce better black levels, and greatly improve off-axis viewing. It will also unlock significantly larger screen sizes. Sony wasn’t specific on just how large, but, according to Austin, “It opens the opportunity to expand screen sizes beyond what’s possible with OLED.”

Speaking of OLED, this is not meant as an “OLED killer,” but rather a best-of-bothworlds technology that delivers superior black levels and blooming control than Mini-LED, along with higher brightness and color volume than OLED technology, allowing it to better fill installations where larger and brighter screen sizes are required, and when no-compromise performance is demanded in bright or open concept rooms. Further, its wider

viewing angles make it ideal for large spaces, while still producing reference-level color accuracy that matches the professional reference monitors used by Hollywood studios and colorists.

“The Custom Integration Channel is always at the forefront of performance and innovation,” said Kathleen Thomas, Sony’s Head of Custom Install Channel. “Their customers want the best, and what Sony brings to the table with our unique RGB implementation is a revolution in picture performance. This is the culmination of years of development and technological innovations.”

Driving this next-gen picture will be the latest iteration of Sony’s acclaimed XR processor, optimized for the new RGB LED panel and utilizing AI to cross-analyze hundreds of thousands of picture elements at once to optimize color, clarity, contrast, motion, focal point, and depth.

While the recent “King of TVs” win proves that Sony continues to lead in OLED performance today, the next era of large-screen, high-brightness, coloraccurate TVs is already on the horizon with Sony’s RGB backlight technology.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to experience it on the CEDIA show floor this year. According to Thomas, “We look forward to 2026 being the year of RGB”, with a launch expected in Spring, so you’ll need to stay tuned. However, staff at Sony’s booth are aware of the new displays and are able to discuss them, so feel free to bring your questions as you look at this year’s top technologies!

MYKA Mini Linear Lighting Joins Luminii Line

BOOTH 3943 Luminii is presenting MYKA Mini Linear LED Lighting at CEDIA Expo/CIX 2025 in the Lightening Pavilion, exhibit 3943.

MYKA [pronounced / mahy-kuh/] is Luminii’s high-performance mini linear range engineered for seamless AV integration. As Luminii’s smallest linear square form factor, MYKA features concealed mounting and measures less than half an inch on each side, offering a refined, barely-there aesthetic with its clean profile. With low profiles, precise optics, and high-output capabilities, MYKA delivers consistent, even illumination—ideal for behind screens, shelving, architectural accents, and more.

speakers, weatherproof AV, landscape lighting, and smart grills, CEDIA Expo/CIX will showcase the whole ecosystem of outdoor innovation. Whether for entertaining, relaxing, or enhancing curb appeal, outdoor spaces are becoming high-performance zones. Even outdoor appliances like pizza ovens, grills, and fire features are being networked into the broader control ecosystem, and integrators are stepping in to bring it all together.

THE GARAGE GOES FULLY CONNECTED

Once overlooked, the garage is becoming one of the most integrated spaces in the modern home—and in light commercial settings too. EVs now sync with home networks, launch lighting scenes, and interface with energy management systems. At the same time, garages are transforming into private gyms, workshops, and remote studios, requiring robust automation, connectivity, and security.

At this year’s show, integrators will find tech that ties doors, HVAC, lighting, and surveillance into broader home and business automation from companies like Lutron, Graber, and Airzone.

The garage is a staple of American entrepreneurship (HP, Google, etc.), so you’ll see bootstrapped and VC-backed start-ups at the show debuting their innovations at CEDIA Expo/CIX in Denver this September.

LIGHTING THAT PERFORMS AND TRANSFORMS

Lighting and shading are no longer finish-line features—they’re foundational to the design and integration process.

At CEDIA Expo/CIX, expect to see everything from smart fixtures and human-centric lighting to advanced shading and control protocols that serve both form and function. These systems are being specified for luxury homes, hospitality venues, workspaces, and wellness environments, giving integrators and designers new tools to shape the experience of a space. Expect to see high-performance fixtures, advanced control systems, and designer-grade options from exhibitors like Klus and Lucetta that meet both the aesthetic and technical demands of today’s installations.

SCALABLE SECURITY FOR SMART LIVING AND WORKPLACES

Security has become a must-have in both residential and commercial installations, and it’s growing smarter, sleeker, and more integrated by the day.

From discreet sensors and access control to video analytics and automation triggers, CEDIA Expo/CIX will feature security solutions designed to function quietly in the background while providing robust protection. Exhibitors include Allegion, HoloVision, and Ring. These systems are increasingly tied into AV, lighting, and HVAC controls, offering seamless safety for homes, MDUs, retail shops, and boutique offices alike.

AND LET’S NOT FORGET THE SOUND

Premium audio remains a cornerstone of CEDIA Expo/CIX. Hi-Fi listening rooms, vinyl experiences, and immersive theaters will demonstrate how toptier sound elevates any space, residential or commercial.

Sound is where emotion meets technology, and this year’s show will celebrate it with demo spaces that highlight both innovation and pure listening joy. Many top brands, such as Yamaha, Harman, and L-Acoustics, will offer hands-on demonstrations in sound rooms on the show floor or in dedicated demo rooms, making it easy to hear what’s next.

ONE SHOW, DUAL-MARKET IMPACT

Perhaps most exciting for today’s integration professionals: the increasing convergence of residential and commercial technologies. For system integrators working across both spaces, CEDIA Expo/CIX offers a single destination to explore unified platforms, scalable solutions, and new business opportunities that span the full spectrum of connected environments.

“Systems integration is driven by emerging technology and evolving client expectations,” says McGraw. “This show is where we see the future take shape—from luxury homes to smart offices and everything in between.”

Under her leadership, Phoenix Systems pioneered innovations like the AudioAccess product line, now in the CEDIA Product Hall of Fame. After Harman International acquired Phoenix Systems in 1993, Jana repurchased the company in 2000, becoming one of the first women to independently own an integration firm. Her suggestion “Why don’t you start a trade association” inspired her husband Chris and his friend Tom Doherty to create CEDIA. A mentor and advocate, she helped form WiCT and played a pivotal role in advancing professional collaboration, mentorship, and standards within the industry.

Based in the U.K., Gabi Hughes is the Director and Lead Engineer of EJ Fire Ltd (or Avinity) and a leader in bespoke technology integration and lighting control solutions.
