Welcome to our inaugural DLMS online fall sale.
T Ranch is a purebred Hereford operation, located on the north shore of Fraser Lake, BC, approximately 2 hours west of Prince George along Highway 16. We take great pride in developing seedstock and believe in focusing on conformation, performance and functionality. We hold our herd, and our sale animals, to high culling standards. Our strict selection criteria ensures that any animal we sell is from a strong family line and one we are proud to offer to you!
Creating a fully developed, strong and predictable product that is ready to go straight to work is one of the reasons why we have always run a 2-year-old bull sale program. This is the first year we are selling them in the fall as long yearlings. There are many benefits to buying bulls in the fall and winter, and we hope this new sale date fits your program’s needs. Beat the spring rush, shop before the snow, the mud, and your calving season. Take your new bulls home now and feed them to your desired condition to meet your environmental needs.
Bred females in the sale are straight from the heart of our herd; all dams remain here and many relatives are here thriving. Calves being offered have been selected with junior show prospects in mind and will all be halter broke to tie before the sale.
For the last 30 years we have sold replacement animals using the private treaty, ranch direct model while supporting our local Vanderhoof All Breeds Bull Sale with a small number of consignments. We've built strong customer service and lasting relationships. Moving to a DLMS timed auction allows us to serve our past and future customers better.
This offering of cattle features animals we believe will be successful for you and are of a quality we would be proud to have walking in our pastures. Contact us with any questions you may have.
Copper-T Ranch reports complete and accurate animal performance data to the Canadian Hereford Association and in doing so we have been recognized as a 7 star breeder. To achieve and maintain this status we send in data from all our registered cattle. Data includes: birth weights, calving ease, weaning and yearling weights, scrotal size, cow weights, teat, udder and body condition scores. For our own knowledge we also collect weights throughout the year so we can closely monitor our young stock’s Average Daily Gain data. We are pleased to share all of our performance information with you on request. Testing for genetic abnormalities, GE EPD profiling and horn/polled gene testing has been completed on all these bulls. Please contact us for more information.
Our cattle are bred and selected to perform on our native grass. We strive to produce easy keeping, low input cattle. Our cattle herd is wintered on dry hay; we do not feed silage or any grain supplement to our mature cow herd. Our calves do not receive creep supplement or any segregated feeding while on their dams. Their weaning weights are a direct reflection of their genetic merits performing on their dam’s milk and natural pasture forages. Weaned calves receive high quality dry roughage and a low quantity grain ration after weaning throughout the cold months to ensure proper growth. Our sale bulls are run on native pasture as yearlings then develop on a steady, balanced, forage based bull ration, with condition, health and longevity of the animal being our top priority. We are committed members of the Verified Beef Production Plus program and have been for close to twenty years.
All our animals are vaccinated with: Express FP 5-VL5 and Fermicon 7/somnugen, and are treated biannually for internal and external parasites. Sale bulls are also vaccinated against Foot rot (Fusoguard) to give them added protection during their first working season.
All bulls receive a semen test by a veterinarian before leaving our ranch and you will receive a copy of the semen certificate along with a health record showing the animal’s full health history upon purchase.
Not all customers have reliable internet access or you may not be comfortable doing business online. We would be pleased to take your inquires and bids by phone or email. For phone bids call 250-699-1406 or 250-699-1342, for placing bids by email please contact us at coppertranch@outlook.com before closing day.
Junior Discount - Under 21 years of age - Receive $100 off each animal purchased
Multi Head Bull Discount - Buy 2 head get 2% off, Buy 3 head get 3% off, Buy 4 or more get 4% off. (Applies to bulls only)
Repeat Buyer Discount - If you have purchased a bull from us in the last 3 years you will receive a $100 discount. This is a Canadian Junior Hereford Association sanctioned Heifer Lottery sale and any CJHA credits will be accepted.
All Bulls are sold with a breeding and soundness guarantee at the time of sale.
Bulls have been semen tested and evaluated by a certified veterinarian before the sale.
Should something happen to your purchase during the first breeding season, we want to hear from you and we will work with you to ensure your cows get bred!
All animals are selling under the terms and conditions of the Canadian Hereford Association; all animals are registered and will be transferred upon completion of payment. We do not warranty against injury or illness after possession and encourage the use of insurance for that purpose.
1. Acclimatizing and Acclimating
Fall is the best time to move cattle from one environment to anespecially if you are moving them into a hotter or more
In the fall large herds are gathering bulls from every direction, some go to town and some stay. Bulls are typically tired come fall, less territorial. A new pecking order is re-established in the bull band for the winter and the introduction of new bulls can go very smoothly compared to the spring with added hormones in
Bringing bulls home in the fall gives them time to learn a new location and routine which decreases the chance of new bulls wandering away from the herd on range.
demands your attention, its very hard to get away. more time to select and purchase bulls. Not all ranches are located on pavement. Spring breakup brings mud, floods, and washouts, certain ranches have roads that are unpassable in the spring! Delivering on dry or frozen ground makes a lot less stress for everyone.
18 months of age. They are considered long yearlings now but will be standout 2-year-olds at turn out They have been developed slowly and naturally on grass and will be able to handle a larger workload come spring with fewer problems than a spring yearling. You get to feed them to your desired condition over the winter.
4. Keep the books balanced!
Fall calf cheque in hand. If you need to buy something for yearend tax purposes, it makes a whole lot more sense to buy more bull power now than pay the tax man.
Fall purchasing gives you a better opportunity to shop thoroughly and select animals of your choice.
All sale bulls were born unassisted and cared for properly by their dam after birth. We do not trim feet. All Bulls are halter broke to tie to encourage ease of future workability and safety. We acknowledge that our customer’s operations are diverse and require different attributes in their working bulls. Please contact us we will help you select animals that will best suit your operation, whether it is a large range with multiple bulls and miles to cover or a small acreage with limited females.

These 3 steers were chosen as the best candidates for a 4H member market steer project. When we look for 4H animals we consider structure, muscle, capacity, frame and a quiet disposition. They all have good spring of rib and stand wide. They are moderate framed, strong over the top with the bonus of good haircoats. They have shown they can grow well on milk and grass and will continue to do so when put on feed.
These pictures show them pre-weaning on dry pasture in September. They are weaned now and will be halter broke by sale time. We believe these steers fit the bill to be a great market steer project. Watch for updated pictures after they are halter broke.

Example of How the Max Bid Works - If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a lot of interest. Please note that in some cases a lot value can change very quickly if 2 max bids are placed on the same lot against each other.
4. Watch List Feature
If you have items in multiple auctions or only a few from the same auction that you want to watch with out having to scroll through the entire list, you can add the lots to your watchlist. On each lot you will see the “eye” button beside the bid button, by clicking this “watchlist” Icon that item is added to your personal watchlist for easy viewing of just your favorite lots in this sale or on the entire site.
5. Sale Ending / Closeout
Most Farm Gate Timed Auction sales close racehorse style with extended bidding.
FAQ: What is Racehorse Style Close?
Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.
FAQ: How will Extended Bidding works?
When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
6. Bidding Close & Follow-up
After the clock has gone to “ENDED” and no bidding has occurred for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished. Following the close typically within 24 hours of the sale close the sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/Pick up of your lot. Or as the winning bidder you can contact the sale consignor / sale manager to confirm payment instructions.
We simply believe in breeding for good cattle and using a wide spectrum of Hereford bloodlines has benefits. We understand though, some people have a preference. Whether you want a bull with a traditional look or you are looking for a polled bull to decrease the labor of dehorning calves, we can provide options. Understanding the horn/polled gene can provide more flexibility to use of horned or heterozygous polled bulls on many commercial cows than might be expected even if avoiding horns is the intention.
For this example picture:
- Heterozygous polled cows being F1 black Baldy females created from black Angus and Horned Hereford.
- Consider homozygous polled cows as a set of long time straightbred Angus.
- Horned cow herd being a traditional straight bred horned Hereford herd
USING A HORNED BULL
Mated to horned cows- 100% of calves are horned
Mated to heterozygous polled cows- 50% of calves are horned and 50% of calves are polled
Mated to homozygous polled cows- 100% of calves are polled.
USING A HETEROZYGOUS POLLED BULL
(50% horned, 50% polled)
Mated to horned cows- 50% of calves are horned, 50% of calves are polled.
Mated to heterozygous polled cows- 25% of calves are horned and 75% of calves are polled.
Mated to homozygous polled cows- 100% of calves are polled.
USING A HOMOZYGOUS POLLED BULL (100% polled)
Mated to horned cows- 100% of calves are polled.
Mated to heterozygous polled cows- 100% of calves are polled.
Mated to homozygous polled cows- 100% of calves are polled.
