DEPRESSION AND HOW TO TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT

Depression can sap your strength, and take away all of your motivation and drive to live your life. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you had the ability to be in charge of and eliminate your depression just by having certain thoughts? I know that this sounds too good to be true, but quite often; various types of depression are only caused by having negative thoughts. Some people call it the 'blues' and some people call it the 'pits' and some just call it 'feeling down in the dumps'. But whatever you call it, being depressed is a terrible feeling.

he most common types of depression are: Major Depression, which is characterized by a sad mood, sleep disorders, and a depressed appetite. Often when an individual is in a state of major depression, there is a complete lack of motivation and drive and the sufferer lacks the desire to do anything in life. Some people are rendered completely disabled by depression, and some may even contemplate suicide.

Dysthymia: This is a less severe form of long term depression that usually does not completely disable a person. But it prevents the person from feeling motivated and functioning at optimum levels. Sometimes people who are struggling with Dysthymia also suffer from Major Depression, and when this occurs it is referred to as double-depression.

Manic Depression is also called Bipolar Disorder. This type of depression is less common than major depression or Dysthymia. It involves phases of a manic state, alternated with a depressed state. This is often a long term recurring disorder. Sometimes the mood swings occur suddenly. But more often onset tends to be gradual.

There are many variations of depression; the types described here are only three of the most common.

OK, so what happened? If you truly got into it and visualized the sad situation, you started to feel unhappy and a bit depressed. The more you permit yourself to stay in that thought pattern, the sadder you'll feel. As you stay in sad thoughts and continue feeling sadder, you lead yourself into a gradually intensifying depression.

ome symptoms of depression are: Sadness; anxiety; pessimism; insomnia and sleep disorders; guilt; feelings of worthlessness; weight loss; fatigue; restlessness; headaches; pain; and thoughts of suicide.

Sources of Depression:

As previously stated, there are several types of depression: Major Depression; Manic Depression; and Dysthymia being three of the more common forms.

Some types of depression are hereditary. Living in a stressful environment can lead to depression. A traumatic experience such as a serious loss, financial trouble, or relationship problems can also lead to depression.

Women are twice as likely to suffer from depression as men are, but scientists do not know why.

If you are suffering from depression, you will want to seek the advice of your physician. Your doctor may prescribe medication for you. But keep in mind that every medication causes side effects.

Wouldn't it be phenomenal if you could regulate and eliminate your depression just by having certain thoughts? I know that this sounds too good to be true, but quite frequently, various types of depression are simply caused by thinking negative thoughts.

The good news is that if you think about a happy memory, then you'll displace that sadness and depression and replace it with happy feelings. Please pay careful attention now, because here are the keys to eliminating your depression: Our most pervasive thoughts emerge from the unconscious. These are the thoughts that we find ourselves automatically thinking about throughout the day.

If the persistent thoughts that are continually popping into your mind are about your problems or sad experiences, then you raise your levels of anxiety, depression, and stress.
