Thinking LOUD Out Brain Songs It seems I have a kind of…well, affliction. My brain contains a small continuous reel tape that makes it possible for me to hear a song, then replay one or two measures of that song over and over in my head until I hear another song catchy enough to take its place. Two years ago, I had Burl Ives singing Have a Holly Jolly Christmas for three solid weeks — and really, I thought I’d go quite mad. But then Auld Lang Syne took over on New Year’s Eve, followed by a dreadful fifties song called If I Knew You Was Comin’ I’d Have Baked a Cake shortly thereafter — neither of which was great but both of which were a relief from Burl and his jolly holly. The good news is that there is an upside to this problem. I don’t need an iPod. I don’t even need a radio. I am my own irritating amusement. Saves me a fortune in batteries!

Calendar Friday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m. Sacred Sounds Concert Series presents A Concert in Memory of Pope John Paul II and composer Henryk Górecki. The concert is also given in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The performance will be presented at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph on Friday, March 11 at 8:00 pm. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be rescheduled for 8 p.m. March 12. The Archdiocese’ Sacred Sounds Concert Series presents this and all its concerts as means of creating an atmosphere conducive to spiritual devotion through thoughtful artistic programming. The evening’s program will also include the performance of Górecki’s motet Totus tuus sung by the Cathedral Choir under the direction of Mr. Colin Britt. There is no admission charge for concerts at the Cathedral, but a free-will offering will be gratefully accepted. The Cathedral is located at 140 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, CT.
