LONG & Your Rights COVID
WHAT IS LONG COVID?
Some people continue to feel sick months after getting COVID-19. This is commonly called “long COVID.” Long COVID can result in many problems including:
Tiredness or fatigue
Difficulty thinking or concentrating (known as “brain fog”)
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Dizziness when standing
Fast-beating or pounding heart (known as heart palpitations)
Joint or muscle pain
Depression or anxiety
Chest pain
Cough
Fever
Loss of taste or smell
LONG COVID AND THE VACCINE
Getting the COVID vaccine may prevent you from getting long COVID in the future.
If you already have long COVID, you can still get the vaccine. Some research shows people with long COVID felt better after getting the vaccine. A smaller number of people felt worse after getting the vaccine.
Talk to your doctor about what is best for you.
A person with long COVID may be protected by federal, state and local laws that protect the rights of people with disabilities. Even if long COVID is temporary, you might still be protected by these laws. Temporary conditions can be disabilities if the limitations are severe enough. DRNY has several fact sheets which can tell you more about your rights.
