The Lower Hudson Special Education Task Force is pleased to present a Zoom webinar
Students with Disabilities and School Discipline, Codes of Conduct, and Students’ Rights
Federal and State law provide protections for students with disabilities as it relates to student discipline. Students with IEPs and 504 plans may face out of school suspensions or other penalties as set forth in their district’s code of conduct. This presentation will address proactive steps to address conduct before it leads to discipline. There will also be a conversation on the procedural safeguards required when an out-of-school suspension is imposed by a school district. The presenters will emphasize the importance of alternatives and how that can be accomplished given the laws. We welcome all stakeholders to participate and share their perspective including families, school administrators, advocates and attorneys, with the goal of ensuring safety and positive outcomes for all students
