COVID-19 VACCINE OR BOOSTER TIPS FOR GETTING YOUR

Trying to figure out how to get the COVID-19 vaccine can be overwhelming and confusing. Here are some tips:

Before Making an Appointment

Make sure the COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for you. You can speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist. For more information, visit vaccines.gov.

Making an Appointment

You can make an appointment to get your COVID-19 vaccine at:

A pharmacy near you. Find appointments by visiting vaccines.gov, texting your ZIP code to 438829, or calling 1-800-232-0233.

Your county’s vaccine clinic. Call your county health department or visit their website.

Your doctor’s office. Call your doctor to check if they have the vaccine.

In your home. Find the number for your county’s in-home vaccination program here: https://aging.ny.gov/system/files/ documents/2021/05/in-home-vaccination-point-of-contact2.pdf

For help making an appointment or to get other vaccine support, you can call the Disability Information and Access Line (DIAL) at 888-677-1199.

Preparing for the Appointment

Call the vaccine site and talk to the staff about any accommodations you will need. An accommodation may look like:

Getting your vaccine in a quiet room away from crowds.

Having someone you know accompany and help you during your appointment. Walking around during the 15-minute waiting period instead of sitting.

Plain Language or Large Print vaccine information materials

Getting your vaccine in the thigh instead of the arm.

Make a plan for how you will get there.

Make sure you have everything you will need: 3)

Your ID.

Your CDC vaccine card, if you have already gotten at least one dose. Your insurance card, if you have insurance. You do not need insurance to get the vaccine.

Any comfort items you may want to bring.

At the Appointment

When you get to the vaccination location, remind the staff of any accommodations you need.

After you get your vaccine, you will need to wait 15 minutes before you go home. You will get a vaccine card, and you might schedule an appointment for your next dose.

After the Appointment

You may experience side effects after receiving your vaccine.

If you have concerns or experience pain, headache, or fever, contact a healthcare provider if you can have medicine.
