Belinda Rose Works… Belinda speaks to us about her latest works – “I have been painting my warp to experiment with a technique where I am testing weave structures, which include transparent areas. The idea is to let the image speak through the weave structure, allowing the image to inform the heddles whether they are to be up or to be down. The weave structure I used in this case is a 4-end deflected double weave. As my warp was solid peach, first I used the TC-1 to lift every other four ends and painted them red. I used the iron to set this, in the past I have used a hair dryer. The weft is 2/12 cotton. The warp is a 2/12 mercerised cotton from William Hall set at 30 epi.”

About… Belinda has been a designer weaver for over 30 years. She loves the experience of handling beautiful fabrics and loves to use texture and colour to create textiles and artwork. She produces fabric and woven portraits on commission, and teaches weaving at her studio in north east Scotland.

Belinda’s other recent works include Samitum based on squares and triangles. She tells us, “The Samitum with 4 wefts shows the fabulous watercolour paint effect you can get by mixing wefts in this particular structure. The weft is 2/8 tencel and the warp is again a 2/12 mercerised cotton from William Hall set at 30 epi.”
