LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello fellow residents. Spring is already upon us. Where did the winter go? The pool be opening next month and many summertime events are already planned. Please see the social calendar later in this newsletter for upcoming events. By now the new septic system for the clubhouse should be complete. It will be nice not to need portable toilets for our events. The new septic system is significantly larger than the old one and even allows for us to expand and tie into the system in the future. Some specifics about the new system are mentioned later in this newsletter. In early February, we sent out an online survey requesting opinions on the likes and dislikes of the current clubhouse. There has been discussion regarding the clubhouse for some time now and the board is debating on remodeling or replacing the clubhouse so we sent a survey to gain community feedback. Within one week we had over 400 responses. While the range of feedback was wide, some of the common responses included a bigger gym, additional meeting rooms, bigger kitchen, larger main area, and updated bathrooms. There seem to be a common theme of bigger is better. Isn’t that typically the way it goes in Texas? One thing for certain is that there are plenty of opinions. So do we make it bigger by remodeling, or by replacing it all together? While it seems an easy decision to make the clubhouse larger, we have to keep in mind that if we enlarge the footprint of the building, we are taking that area from something else. For example, if we extend the clubhouse wider, we may take away some of the area used for the music in the park events. Another question is how much can we afford to build or remodel? What will it cost? How do we pay for it? One thing for certain is that all these questions will be addressed and many options explored prior to any final decisions. This
project is a huge undertaking and will require many hours of discussion. For those of you who don’t get the opportunity to attend the board meetings, I’d like to share some information with you about deed restriction violations. Spectrum Association Management company drives our community twice per month making inspections. During these inspections, they observe and note deed restriction violations and send out violation notices to residents. If you receive a violation notice, please read the notice carefully. It will state the violation and what to do after the violation is cured. If you have questions about the violation, call Spectrum for clarification @ 210-494-0659. It’s important that you notify Spectrum that the violation is cured so it does not elevate to the next level which could include fines against your account. As a reminder, if you plan on doing a home improvement project such as a pool, fence, driveway, or any other project on the outside of your home, you are required to turn in a project Continued inside

request to the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). This committee is responsible for reviewing all project requests and approving or denying them based on the deed restrictions and architectural guidelines for each unit. Did you know there are 62 different units in Timberwood Park? Each of these 62 units has their own set of deed restrictions. While there are many similarities from unit to unit, be sure you are following the correct restrictions for your unit. Some projects that do not require ACC approval include landscaping, and tree and brush trimming. I’ve heard the saying it is easier to beg for forgiveness than to get permission, but in the case of project approvals, it’s not true. A deed restriction common to every unit reads” no building, structure, or fence shall be erected or constructed on any tract until the builder, building plans, specifications, and external design have been approved in writing”.
The Clubhouse is open to property owners and their guests Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM. The Clubhouse is closed on Mondays for cleaning.

Timberwood Park Owners Association Board Meeting Minutes February 2, 2016 The Board of Directors for Timberwood Park Owners Association (TPOA) held a public meeting at the TPOA Clubhouse. It was called to order at 7:00 pm with a quorum of Board members in attendance.
Matula stated that the response to the survey was very strong, and that the information would be reviewed and used as the planning effort moves forward. He also noted that the Board would keep the community updated on the planning process.
TPOA Board members present were Doug Eberle, Chris Martinez, Greg Matula, Scott Myles, Karen O’Neil, and Craig Zenner.
Neighborhood Watch
Mr. Myles gave an overview of the new clubhouse septic system that would be installed to replace the current system that had failed. He discussed the bidding and design process, and gave details on the new system. After research and negotiations with contractors, the Board voted to select the bid of JB Septic. A motion was made to approve the $46,000 cost of the new system. The motion was seconded and Board members present voted unanimously in favor of it.
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse.
Neighborhood Watch Chairman Paul Rutowski gave an overview of the Neighborhood Watch (OHFWLRQ RI %RDUG 2IÀFHUV activities. We kick off the year with our 2nd annual Timberwood Park BBQ Cookoff on 4/2 and will have a trailer stage and screen in the parking lot with acoustic musicians from 12-4 and then a band from 4-7 p.m. The season will continue every other Friday from there until September when we switch to Saturday nights due to High School Football. 2-3 Food Trucks will be at all shows! Originally from Lakeland, Florida Clint served ten years in the United States Coast Guard; after which he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. Clint now resides in Corpus Christi, Texas with his wife and children where he continues to perform and write music.
Passing Strangers return to Timberwood Park Music Series after 2 shows last season that packed the park and were a huge success! They have been on the San Antonio music scene for years as a popular 1st Wave/80’s retro/ Alternative band based out of San Antonio. They are best known for the dance remake of Dream Weaver. Passing Strangers play at Sam’s Burger joint, have played recently at the SA Rodeo BBQ Cookoff, and perform all over Texas. Do not miss this show!

Two Tons has been packing Gruene Hall every Tuesday for “Two Tons Tuesdays,” every summer for years. We are very fortunate to have Timberwood resident and lead vocals/guitarist, Kevin Geil with Two Tons of Steel, perform just for our neighborhood! Lucas Jack was new last year bringing his piano up on our stage to our Timberwood Park Music Series and was a huge hit! Lucas plays in San Antonio at venues such as University of Incarnate Word and Aztec Theater as well as tours all over Texas! Lucas has opened for Foreigner at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, won the 2014 San Antonio Bud Light Battle of the Bands, and performed the Halftime Show during the NBA Finals at the AT&T Center. We are very excited to have his at the park this year!
Kevin Geil is Lead Singer, songwriter and guitarist for Two Tons of Steel, a renowned Americana/Country/Rockabilly Band that has been together for over two decades. We are lucky to be a part of a successful tour of over 200 dates/year, from Texas to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, where they have performed numerous times, to regular tours in Europe. Two Tons Tuesdays have been a sold-out weekly summer series (June-August) for the last 15 years at Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX. HOW TO MITIGATE YOUR HOME & PROPERTY FROM BEING A CRIME VICTIM With most of us having too many activities going on simultaneously these days, I thought it would be appropriate that we have some tips to not be a “target” for thieves:
INSIDE THE HOME:

-Close window shades and shutters when darkto prevent thieves driving or walking by and seeing into your home and all your nice items
- Trim trees away from the house – Prevent thieves from using them to get into upper story windows, porches, & doors. - Trim Shrubs that obscure windows and porches/doors – To prevent thieves from using them as “Cover” for getting into windows and doors
-Leave lights and a radio on when not at homemakes home appear occupied
-Keep Doors & windows locked when not in use -Lock your vehicles at all times – if left outdoors – Thieves will steal your belongings easily (i.e. purses, wallet, computer, gaming devices) and especially your garage door opener – thus access to your house!! THIS IS A TOUGH ITEM TO REMEMBER!!
-Provide lighting at all entrances during all dark hours – thieves hate lighting!! Lighting around your home’s entire perimeter is even better!! - All exterior doors should have dead-lock locks with one-inch bolts/throws – including upper ÁRRU H[WHULRU GRRUV DQG GRRU OHDGLQJ IURP WKH garage to the house - Exterior door latch plates –Should be attached with 3-inch screws – make harder for thieves to kick in doors

However, nearly all hedgerows encounter multiple microclimates along their length. Among them are different levels of shade, full scorching sun, and root zones compromised by changes in soil depth, drainage and compaction.

If you’re planting shrubs this winter, consider adopting an informal cottage garden aesthetic: • Break it up. The rule of threes is an easy way to compartmentalize a hedge by arranging plants with similar requirements into smaller groups. This helps address subtle site changes and offers a chance to add pattern and texture. (Tip: Drought-tolerant plants should get full sun while more delicate plants generally do better in morning sun.) • Go native. Avoid shrubs that will remain dependent on a lot of water when they’re fully grown. If you favor boxwoods, hedge your bets instead with indestructible cenizos, muhlies and prickly pears. • Let them breathe. Space your shrubs out based on their mature size (not their size in the pot). Overcrowding them almost guarantees future stress for both you and your landscape. Given our climate and soil, steer clear of hedges that require regular trimming in the summer – spring and fall are quite enough. Too much pruning leads to stress, and stress encourages higher water consumption. And we never encourage that!
