EEP BLUE Gala was the title of the 7th Annual Lakeway Police Foundation Gala, hosted at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. Presented by Lexus of Lakeway, this annual benefit provides a critical source of funding, outside the City of Lakeway’s budget, to support the officers that protect and serve the Lakeway community. This year’s gala upped the ante, raising $76,000, a new record. In the last year, funds raised have helped to support an officer whose child had health issues and helped another officer obtain proper eyewear. The Lakeway Police Foundation also purchased six more defibrillators for patrol cars. Since police officers are typically the first to arrive on the scene, they often find themselves the first to face a critical medical emergency; and the availability of defibrillators in squad cars has saved many lives. The Lakeway Police Foundation also supports the Texas Police Chief Memorial of Fallen Officers around the state of Texas. This year, the Lakeway Police Foundation sent funds to help the families of the brothers in the blue who were fatally shot in the Dallas police shooting last summer. Officer Trevor Mathis was honored at the Gala as the 2016 Officer of the Year. Officer Mathis has been actively involved in supporting and boosting the morale of the police department. He has devoted time and attention to help rookie officers and has been enthusiastically involved with trainings. Under new President, Bob Stubbs, the Lakeway Police Foundation will continue to support the Lakeway Police Department and their families, as these officers are the heroes who put their lives on the line to ensure our safety every day.
