LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
A
s we get further along with the proposed clubhouse design, we will be holding a special community meeting soon to present the design, renderings, cost, etc. to the community before it goes to vote. We will also make the drawings, budget, etc. public via e-blast, facebook and postings in the clubhouse to ensure that everybody knows what is proposed before they vote on it.
I know that I’ve used this space to brag on our park staff from time to time, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about a recent instance where our park Assistant Maintenance Manager Benny Martinez went well above and beyond the call of duty. It was the Friday before New Year’s, and there was suddenly a significant leak in the park’s main water line. Benny was working solo that day as Robert Jung, our Park Maintenance Manager, was away on a planned and well-deserved vacation. While Benny could have just turned off the water to the park and called a plumber, he knew that it would be a busy weekend at the park, and a big event was planned in the clubhouse the following day would need water, as would the park caretaker’s house, so he began working to address the issue himself. He grabbed a shovel and started digging until he found the leak, which was five feet down! Beyond that, a cold front had blown in, and the hole was largely filled with water as he was digging, but he didn’t let that bother him or slow him down, and he worked late in to the evening that Friday. Ultimately the leak was worse than originally thought, so a plumber was needed to make the actual repair. But Benny came in the following Saturday, his day off, and spent several hours supervising the plumbers’ work and making sure it was done right and done as quickly as possible. His efforts to dig the hole also saved the association from having to pay several more hours of plumbing costs, which were at a
holiday weekend rate. So thank you Benny for your outstanding efforts! And thanks to Chris Martinez and Scott Myles from the TPOA Board who spent a lot of time out at the park those days to assist with the effort as needed. Also, speaking of park staff, I want to make sure you’re aware that if you are having any problems with your gate card or you need a new one, we now have an option in place of going to Spectrum. You can visit the park office on Thursdays and Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Or you can visit the Spectrum office Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their office is located at 17319 San Pedro Ave. Ste. #318. As a reminder, please be sure to bring your existing card if you have it. There is no fee for the replacement of a malfunctioning card, but the fee for a new card to replace a lost one is $20. Lastly, while it’s still a couple of months until the Music in the Park season officially begins, planning efforts have already been underway for the last couple of months. In addition to some regular favorites, the Music in the Park Committee has identified and begun scheduling some great new bands thanks to input from community members. So this promises to be the biggest and best one yet. The season officially starts during the annual Smokin’ in the Park BBQ Cook-Off, which also promises to be another great one -- it’s been fun to see that event grow so much in just a few years.
All Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. at the Park. Thanks for your Clubhouse time, and at I’llthe see you around the neighborhood!
