VOL. 38, NO. 11

From the desk of the President By Ernie Knobloch

he deadline for this article was October 10th and provides the members with an update as of that time. Our records show that between Wednesday and Sunday of each week, the Club is serving between 2,500-3,000 individual customers. The POA Board thanks everyone for their continued support. If you haven’t been to Latitude 30 and/or The Oak Room lately, consider eating at the Club. I think you’ll be happy with the atmosphere, products, and service. Several recent national reports have stated that, due to inflation, the average family is now having to spend an additional $175 per month to buy what they normally purchased in the past. Keep in mind, the POA is not immune to inflation and reality is that wholesale prices of food and supplies have also increased significantly. An interesting example is that the price of chicken wings has more than doubled lately, if you can actually buy them. It’s hard to believe that at some point in the future chicken wings may have to sold as “mar-

T

ket price.” We even went through a brief period where it was almost impossible to buy plastic straws. The Slavic Golf Tournament recently held in Diamondhead involved over 600 golfers from all over the southeast United States playing here during a three-day period. I talked to several of the participants, and they were all impressed with our community, especially how well maintained the properties are, the lack of visible trash, the friendliness of the people here, and the overall ambiance of the club and golf courses. The fees collected from this tournament are equivalent to about 70 yearly memberships in the POA. The POA has recently sponsored, or co-sponsored, community events such as balance and preventing falls seminar, nutrition seminars, coffee with a cop, night out against crime, Medicare enrollment, a blood drive and a Fall Fest involving various vendors and activities. To keep up with what’s going on, be sure to sign up for the POA eblasts, or check out Facebook and Instagram for timely information. or cornhole tossing events. Contact the POA Recreation Dept. at 228-255-1900 ext. 171 for specific details. Work to repair and update the tennis court and pickle ball courts near the main swimming pool should have been started by the time you read this article. It’s been a real challenge to find an appropriate company to complete this needed upgrade. The fiscal year for 2022 runs from January 1, 2022, thru December 30, 2022. Many hours were spent reviewing projections and expenditures resulting in a conservative budget being adopted. . Over the years POA Boards have implemented 5 different computer programs to deal with properties, food and beverage services, payroll, maintenance issues, and recreation. Unfortunately, these individual programs do not “talk” to each other. The result is that trying to get specific information about certain topics requires the individual to go in and out of various programs which is time consuming. The Controller and a local computer guru researched programs that are available to handle all the activities that the POA is responsible to handle. After lengthy research and verifying what is available, one integrated program has been found that

can handle all of the activities that the POA is responsible for maintaining. Communities such as Hot Springs Village, many of the Sun City developments, and other communities similar to Diamondhead use this program and are very satisfied with the results. The POA Board has ap-

proved moving to this one system that can handle all of the requirements that are needed. It’s a modular system which allows the owner to add whatever modules are needed both now and possibly in the future. Full
