M
e ahogo yo solo, en el eterno sonido de las teclas que escriben. Muero en el intento de descifrar cada uno de los abrazos que nos dimos. Las olas van y vienen. La arena se vuelve tan profunda como tus palabras en mi corazón. Corren las lágrimas, saladas vagan por mis dóciles mejillas que ya no has tocado. El marrón de mis ojos se cristaliza cada vez más, siempre un poco más. Las letras navegan en mi mente y crean una galaxia nueva. Entraste y nunca saliste. Ahora sólo te has convertido en el sol que me alumbra todas las mañanas.

´m drowning in the eternal sound of the writing keys. I die in the attempt of decipher each one of the hugs we gave each other. Waves come and go. The sand becomes so deep like your words in my heart. The brown of my eyes is getting more crystallized, always a little bit more. Letters sail in my mind and create a new galaxy. You got in, and never got out. Now you just became the sun that illuminates me every morning.

urgimos de los océanos hace millones de años y sin ellos no podríamos estar aquí. Nuestro planeta parece un astro azul desde el espacio porque el agua de los mares cubre un 71% de la superficie terrestre, jugando un papel importantísimo en el ciclo del agua, además de proveernos con valiosos beneficios. Los océanos son fuentes de numerosos recursos, extraemos de sus suelos petróleo y gas natural, proporcionan alimentos a más de 3.5 billones de personas a nivel mundial y de diversión para casi todos los humanos. La mitad de la población mundial vive a menos de una hora del mar

e emerged from the oceans millions of years ago and without them we couldn’t be here. Our planet seems to be a blue star from the space because the water of the oceans covers 71% of the surface area, playing an important role in the water cycle, and provides us with valuables benefits. The oceans are sources of many resources; we extract oil and natural gas from its soil. They give food to more than 3.5 billion of people worldwide and fun to almost every human. Half of world’s population lives less than an hour away from the sea and 75% of the Julio 2017

y el 75% de las mega ciudades están al lado del mismo. Aunque pareciera que sus recursos son ilimitados y que podemos utilizarlos como un vertedero mundial, estamos recibiendo múltiples señales de que el abuso de los humanos con los mares del planeta está llegando al punto de no retorno. Ya han desaparecido la mitad de los arrecifes coralinos del planeta debido al calentamiento global. La sobrepesca ha creado grandes desiertos submarinos y en los últimos 50 años hemos consumido más del 90% de los peces grandes del mar. El crecimiento de las llamadas Zonas Muertas de los océanos es alarmante. Estas son aguas con bajo o nulo contenido de oxígeno donde se hace imposible el desarrollo de la vida marina. Estas zonas muertas se crean por las enormes cantidades de sustancias tóxicas que echamos al mar, fertilizantes y químicos provenientes de la agricultura y de las industrias. Agreguemos a esto la contaminación originada por las grandes cantidades de plástico que terminan en los mares cobrando no solo una gran cantidad de vida marina, sino que, hay lugares en el mar donde la proporción de plástico es mayor que la de plancton.

Even though it seems that its resources are limitless and we can use them like a global dump, we’re receiving multiple signals that human abuse to the oceans is getting to a place of no return. Half of coral reefs of the planet is gone due to global warming. The overfishing has created great underwater deserts and in the last 50 years we have consumed more than 90% of the big fishes from the sea. The growth of so-called “Dead zones” of the oceans is alarming. These are waters with low or none oxygen content where the sea life is impossible to develop. These dead zones are created by the enormous quantity of toxic substances we throw to the sea, fertilizers and chemicals from agriculture and industries. Let’s add to this that pollution originated by the enormous amounts of plastic ending in the sea taking not just a lot of sea life, but, there are places where the plastic proportion is bigger than the plankton one.
