Every product that leaves our factory is a unique example of our commitment to high quality, absolute reliability and a flexible, customer-focused approach. Our compressors are the natural choice in applications like refining, petrochemicals and other large industrial processes where continuous long-term dependability is a critical factor.

AN INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION From small beginnings as a gas engine manufacturing company we have grown into a major international supplier of compressor equipment. Founded by Mr Geurt Thomassen more than 100 years ago to manufacture internal combustion engines, Thomassen quickly moved into the design and production of reciprocating compressors. From its roots in meeting local needs with skill and innovation, the company has developed into an internationally respected manufacturer with a global sales and servicing network.

Our customers are located throughout the world in vital industries like oil and gas processing, chemical engineering and refining. More than 90% of our sales are destined for the export market.

Our activities include: • research into the fundamental science and technology of compression. • design and engineering of bespoke compressors. • manufacture and testing of state-of-the-art compressor units. • overhaul, rebuilding and upgrading of existing units. • on-site installation, commissioning and servicing.

INDIVIDUALLY DESIGNED FOR EACH UNIQUE APPLICATION HOWDEN THOMASSEN COMPRESSORS HAS A PROUD REPUTATION FOR PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY, TAILOR-MADE COMPRESSORS FOR THE OIL, GAS, CHEMICAL AND REFINING INDUSTRIES. The compressors we produce become integral parts of complex processes. By building up detailed knowledge of the applications that our equipment is used in, we are able to design, manufacture, install, maintain and upgrade compressors that are perfectly matched to their duties. By incorporating performance monitoring systems, we ensure they deliver maximum lifetime efficiency and reliability. Our mission is to provide a complete package covering every aspect of compressor operation, and to tailor our products and services to the precise needs of each individual customer because each new situation demands a unique response.

AT THE FOREFRONT OF INNOVATION Each compressor we build is precision engineered to a unique specification that delivers outstanding reliability, excellent performance, high efficiency and low maintenance costs. In addition to ensuring that every single component is designed for strength and durability, we have introduced several of the most significant innovations in compressor technology. Our teams of highly skilled specialists have a single objective: to provide you with the best possible compressors. Fully experienced in every aspect of compressor technology, from installation, maintenance and repair to re-rating and rebuilding existing equipment, they work in close co-operation with your in-house engineers to achieve the highest levels of dependability and performance.

A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR INNOVATION

OUR VAST DESIGN AND ENGINEERING EXPERTISE ENABLES US TO CREATE THE OPTIMUM COMPRESSOR SYSTEM FOR EVERY APPLICATION AND EVERY DIFFERENT SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES.

Howden Thomassen Compressors is driven by a philosophy of pushing the boundaries of compressor technology. We do this through a continuing programme of fundamental research and testing new ideas. The components we develop are subjected to rigorous static and dynamic testing in heavy duty situations before entering commercial production. Using advanced software to model each of the parameters that contribute to overall plant performance we ensure that every aspect of our technology plays its part in optimising the ‘total package’ efficiency.

Our emphasis on the systems approach, and on advanced design complemented by world-class engineering, has constantly extended the limits of reliability and continuous running times. The current target for any compressor we produce is three years operation without downtime: as a result of our ongoing programme of development and testing, under process conditions at production sites as well as on our in-house test compressor, this target continues to rise.

FFP™

Rsens™

HYDROFIT

Our Free Floating Piston technology virtually eliminates rider ring wear in non-lubricated compressors by allowing the piston to ‘float’ freely on the process gas. It will increase the Mean Time Between Maintenance (MTBM) and reduce downtime of your compressor, resulting in a lower Total Cost of Ownership.

The Rsens™ sensor provides extremely accurate monitoring of the condition of the rider rings during the operation of your compressor. Accurate to within 0.1 mm, the sensor allows you to precisely pinpoint the optimum time for compressor maintenance shutdown.

Hydrofit pre-loaded couplings fitted at both the piston and the crosshead ends of the piston rod considerably reduce the cyclic stresses that cause fatigue failure at the critical points where the rod is joined to other components. Easily assembled and dismantled, they significantly extend piston rod life.

IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY OF EXISTING EQUIPMENT OUR GLOBAL NETWORK OF QUALIFIED SPECIALIST ENGINEERS ENABLES US TO OFFER A FAST, LOCAL RESPONSE VIRTUALLY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. NEW PERFORMANCE WITHOUT THE EXPENSE OF NEW PLANT

Replacing rider rings too early means an unnecessary shut down. Leaving it too late can cause serious damage and time-consuming repairs. The Rsens™ sensor, accurate to 0.1 mm, is unaffected by variables that can introduce spurious data in other systems, and is robust enough to survive explosions.

Whether your need is to reduce energy consumption or to change the operating parameters of your application, re-rating an existing compressor installation can bring enormous efficiency gains. Howden Thomassen Compressors’ engineers are highly experienced, not only in all types of reciprocating compressors but also in centrifugal compressors and steam turbines, as well as in virtually every application where they are used.

Drawing on their considerable technical experience, our engineers use highly specialised and advanced tools to investigate the performance of a compressor and its interaction with the process it is an integral part of. Any recommendations we make about upgrades and improvements are based on a complete, systematic overview of the equipment and the application.

With over a hundred years of manufacturing, maintaining and servicing compressors behind us, we can provide all the support you need whether your compressor was manufactured by us or by any other manufacturer.

MAXIMISING EFFICIENCY THROUGH INTELLIGENT MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE Although modern compressors are designed to give long periods of continuous trouble-free operation, the right monitoring and maintenance programme will help to keep your equipment running at peak efficiency and identify potential issues before they become problems. The Rsens™ sensor, for example, provides accurate data on the wear of the rider rings by measuring the ‘S’ value at every stroke using a sensor located within the cylinder head cover.
