--LOOKBOOK: In an industry that often tries to put people in boxes, how have you protected your individuality while still building a career?

KOURTNEY: Staying true to myself, being kind, being humble, always being respectful, & setting boundaries. For so long, I’ve let people walk all over me or making me feel like I need to dilute myself, but not anymore. Sometimes I need to be selfish and chose myself, because I value myself. Having values and sticking to them is very important. I feel that’s what makes me stand out.

LOOKBOOK: Representation is more than visibility—it’s responsibility. What does representing multicultural, tattooed, and eccentric women mean to you on a personal level?

KOURTNEY: Being unapologetically authentic and loving myself. Being multicultural means I get the best of both worlds! Having tattoos, I’m telling my narrative and stories through art without speaking. Art is the greatest form of expression for me. Being eccentric is breaking the mold. I’m overall honoring how complex & unique I am, refusing to be simple or sit in a box.

LOOKBOOK: Looking back at your first year in modeling, what lesson changed the way you move through the industry today—and what would you tell someone just starting out?

KOURTNEY: I learned a lot of lessons within my first year of modeling, but one of the biggest I’ve learned is to not lose my sense of worth. I knew as soon as I started modeling that I wasn’t going be what everyone is looking for or be apart of an image someone has, but I never let that stop me. Have I ever felt a little defeated after not being selected in auditions, casting, etc.?

Of course, absolutely! But there’s always going to be countless opportunities out there for me. To anyone starting out in modeling, ask a ton of questions, I mean an excessive amount! It’s best to have a good understanding on what you’re doing and what you’re getting into. Also set boundaries & protect your energy. Don’t be afraid to say speak up for yourself, saying no to anything you’re unsure of, or don’t feel comfortable doing. Always chose you, all you have is yourself.

Lillian Avery Cordero is an aspiring model and actress. She has been captivating audience since her start as a contempory dancer when she was only six years old. Ever since she got a taste of the limelight, she has since been turning heads in New Mexico and soon beyond. Keep an eye out on this sensation as she is definitely on her way to stardom as an actress and model.

--LOOKBOOK: What drew you into modeling in the first place — was it the art, the attention, or the story behind the image?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: The art behind modeling is what drew me in. The idea that a camera could capture emotions, just through a models’ eyes and presence, always captivated me. I was intrigued and wanted to learn more. Also, the idea that there are countless themes for a photoshoot.

LOOKBOOK: How has your idea of beauty changed since you started modeling?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: When I began modeling, I thought that covering my face in makeup was the only way I would feel pretty.

I now realize that everyone feels more confident with different levels of makeup and styles of clothes and there isn’t truly a set beauty standard that we have to follow.

LOOKBOOK: Modeling can mess with confidence as much as it builds it. How do you protect your sense of self?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: We are all beautiful in our own way. This mindset has helped me maintain confidence. I try to engage in people and situations that boost confidence instead of strip it away, in order to protect myself.

LOOKBOOK: Do you ever feel pressure to grow up too fast in this industry?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: Being a teenager in this industry, I walked into modeling mentally prepared to grow up too quickly, but my agent told me to just be myself and not let pressure overwhelm me. My agents held me to the standard of my age range and protect me from situations that make me grow up too fast.

LOOKBOOK: What’s something people don’t understand about being a teenager in such an adult-driven space?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: There is a bar, set by adults in this space, that teenagers are pushed to. It’s hard to live up to expectations that are held so high, but it also teaches the teens to be more mature and professional. I do not see this bar as being a bad thing but instead as a useful tool for teens.

LOOKBOOK: How do you deal with rejection or criticism in a world that’s so focused on image?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: Growing up in the competitive dance field, I’m accustomed to rejection and heavy criticism. The dance world taught me a lot before I became a model. Criticism is a sign that someone sees potential in me. They see a future in what I’m trying to achieve. I learn from it.

LOOKBOOK: You’re part of a generation rewriting the rules of fame and beauty — what do you want your version of “influence” to look like?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I want to influence others to realize that growing up with medical scares shouldn’t stop you from doing what you love. I grew up in hospitals all my childhood. I hope that those who look up to me to realize that medical conditions don’t define who you are as a human.

LOOKBOOK: Do you think modeling can be a form of activism or rebellion?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: Modeling can be a form of activism through challenging certain stereotypes. Modeling is moving away from the pre-constructed ideas of beauty, masculinity and femininity, by allowing everyone to be what they want to be. There’s diverse community in the industry.

LOOKBOOK: Who are your creative heroes — not just in fashion, but in music, film, or art?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I have many creative heroes, but two stand out the most in my mind.

Alex Consani is a Model who I have looked up to because she never let the industry change her humor or her demeanor towards others.

That’s what I aspire to be like.

I also see my Grandpa, Richard Trueblood, as a creative hero because he paved the road for

me. He was an animator and producer for many of the shows my parents’ generation grew up watching and I aspire to be as influential as he was one day.

LOOKBOOK: When did you first feel like you belonged in front of a camera?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: The first time I felt like I belonged in front of the camera was my first dance competition. I immediately knew the moment I got my photos back, that I wanted to be a model at some point in my life, and that I would push myself to that dream.

LOOKBOOK: What role do you think models should play in shaping culture now — beyond fashion?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: Models have a following and pull in the world. Many models use their platforms to speak out about mental health, social issues, and body positivity. These are areas that young generations struggle with.

Seeing someone they look up to speaking out about something they are insecure with helps shape cultural and societal positivity.

LOOKBOOK: If you could change one thing about how young women are portrayed in the industry, what would it be?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I wish young women were seen for the messages they want to portray and the themes behind their photos, instead of just for their face and bodies. Many photos have a deeper meaning. People are beautiful for who they are on the inside and what they stand for.

LOOKBOOK: What kind of stories do you want your photos to tell?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I want my photos to show a girl who is confident in herself.

LOOKBOOK: What do your friends think about your modeling career — do they treat you differently?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I do believe that some people who do not know me treat me differently.

My closest friends see me as a normal girl, instead of as a model. I have surrounded myself with people who love me for me.

LOOKBOOK: What kind of stories do you want your photos to tell?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I want my photos to show a girl who is confident in herself.

LOOKBOOK: When people look back on your career one day, what do you hope they say about you?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: I hope when people look back on my career one day they see a strong women. I want them to see a girl who does not believe in a set beauty standard, but instead was true to herself. I want to positively influence young girls for many years to come.

LOOKBOOK: What does your version of normal teenage life look like these days?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: School, homework, acting class, and catching up with friends. My day is a lot more normal than most people think.

LOOKBOOK: What scares you more — failure or being misunderstood?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: One of my biggest fears going into modeling was failing. I was afraid that one mess up would be the end of my career. I finally broke free from that mindset.

Now, I am trying to persevere past the fear of being misunderstood by my peers. I know I can do this because I overcame the fear of failing.

LOOKBOOK: If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing right now?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: If I was not modeling, I would be dancing. I grew up in a studio and love dance.

LOOKBOOK: What’s a shoot or project you’ve done that taught you something unexpected about yourself?

LILLIAN AVERY CORDERO: One of the hardest photoshoots I did was with Alan Osterholtz, called “The Rain Room.” I was put under freezing water and had to mentally push myself past the shivering discomfort. I learned that I have more power than I thought to block out hinderances and push through. The pictures were worth it.

--LOOKBOOK: Your work balances a natural edge with a refined aesthetic—how do you consciously play with that contrast when you’re in front of the camera?

RITA: I try not to overthink going into a photoshoot. I just bring my natural sassiness, hoping and praying that it comes through on camera.

LOOKBOOK: You’re known for adaptability and a strong sense of movement. How do you tap into physical expression to shift energy between different concepts or moods?

RITA: I’m big on people’s energy, so I feel my photographer’s energy and work with that. The photographer and I are trying to create something beautiful or what I feel is beautiful and want to share this with others.

LOOKBOOK: For new models watching your career, what’s one piece of advice you wish you’d been given early on about finding confidence and consistency in front of the lens?

RITA: I feel that it’s important to just be true to yourself while navigating modeling. I’ve been through a lot in my life, and my confidence comes from resilience and withstanding all the trials that have been placed in my path. At this point in my life, I just want to be me and not let anyone tell me who or how I need to be. I love fashion and I wear what makes me feel good about myself and not what people think I should be wearing. To me that’s confidence.

“Turn Your pain into Power!” ~ Chelley Rose --LOOKBOOK: Your glow-up story is rooted in turning pain into power and stepping fully into self-respect and unapologetic confidence. For a new model just entering the scene—especially one who may still be healing or finding their voice— what advice would you give on protecting their inner light while navigating rejection, comparison, and the pressure to fit into an industry that often tries to define them?

CHELLEY: My advice is simple: do what you love and pursue what genuinely brings you joy.

Take care of yourself first. True self-love is the foundation—when you honor it, everything else begins to align.

Accept and love every part of yourself. Own your quirks. Embrace your flaws and imperfections as essential pieces of your unique beauty, without harsh self-judgment or comparison. When you love yourself deeply, you remain unbothered—and that inner security fuels real confidence.

Build strong self-worth by setting boundaries, finding joy within, and detaching from the need for outside validation. Recognize your inherent worth. You are enough. Treat yourself with kindness, protect your peace, and release anyone who fails to see your value.

One of the biggest game changers is realizing that you don’t owe anyone access to your heart, your dreams, or your energy. Protect what’s precious—your peace, your joy, and your inner light. When you guard your energy, your spirit has room to thrive, making space for people and experiences that truly uplift you.

Peace of mind often means walking away from toxic relationships and choosing to care for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This journey is personal. You decide the boundaries. You choose what serves your highest good—and not everyone is meant to walk with you, and that’s okay.

This is your movie. You are the main character, and you get to decide what—and who—belongs in your story.
