Amber
lynn
Amber Lynn is a Tattoo Artist, Owner & Operator of Tru Tattoo with locations in New Mexico and California. Her business is a respected all-women artist tattoo shop. She is also a fabulous model and friend.
(Excerp from Loud&Clear Issue No. 7 - Cover Feature and Interview).
When did you start your career as a tattoo artist?
I started my career as a tattoo artist almost two years ago when I began tattooing at home. From there I was offered a tattoo apprenticeship at Pushin Ink.

Who or What inspired you to pursue such a career?
It wasn’t any specific thing or person that inspired me to become a tattoo artist. There was multiple people in my life that inspired me and supported my art.
What do most people not realize about life as a tattoo artist?
Most people don’t realize how hard it is on your body to be a tattoo artist, but also how rewarding it is on a deeper scale. I remember venting to another tattoo artist about my back. They told me “Imagine tattooing for over 20 years. Your eyes, your back, even your shoulders will be physically worn out”. But, there are times where I am covering peoples scars, tattooing memorial pieces, or even tattooing something to remind someone to wake up every day and keep pushing. These are some of the most special moments for me where I can help someone in their healing process.
If you were forced to choose only one, which emotion, more than any other, drives you to stay in this tough business? Is it joy, anger, desire, passion or pride and why?
If I had to choose one emotion that drives me I would say it is passion. I have a passion for art, for working with people and for seeing someone happy. Tattoo is a form of therapy for many people.
Facial tattoos are becoming more and more popular. How do you feel about giving facial tattoos?
I am biased towards face tattoos, because I have two myself. I think that tattoos on the face when done well can be tasteful.
What are some of the least painful places to get tattooed? Some of the least painful areas to get a tattoo would be the forearm and bicep. Surprisingly, the sides of the face are also areas that are very tolerable.
How many tattoos do you have? Which one is your favorite? I have 27 tattoos in total on my body. I have a hard time picking a favorite tattoo because my whole sleeve tells my life story. If I had to pick my favorite, it would be my grandparents handwriting it says “I love you”.

J.C QUINN RELEASES “BAELLACA” FEATURING BIG TRIP
Denver, CO - Urban/Latin artist, J.C Quinn drops another banger, “BAELLACA” featuring heavy hitting rapper, Big Trip.
J.C Quinn says, “The song portrays a vibrant and sensual nightlife scene, centering on a confident and alluring woman who enjoys herself with drinks (mimosas) and catches the attention of the narrator. Her striking appearance— blue ocean-like eyes and rose-colored lips—makes her irresistible, though she is described as “venenosa” (poisonous), hinting at danger or temptation.

The lyrics switch between Spanish and English, blending Latin urban and hip-hop influences. The narrator and his companion embrace the moment, dancing and indulging in the party atmosphere. There is a sense of recklessness, as she admits to having a partner who isn’t present, adding an element of forbidden attraction. The song maintains an energetic and flirtatious tone throughout, emphasizing indulgence, seduction, and the thrill of the night.”
BAE-LLACA (Bay-ya-ka) original Spanish slang “bellaka” - someone who likes to have a good time.

Melissa: What is your career in the entertainment industry?
Audrey: I am an actress, a writer, and I run a small production company with my husband.
Melissa: What is your production company called? Audrey: The Morrison Film Company.
Melissa: How did you get into this industry?
Audrey: It was a bit of an accident. I was… (Laughs.) I will say that, creatively, as a child I wanted to be a writer, so it’s not like there were no creative aspirations. In college I got roped into a lot of sketch shows and we would make little films, but I never thought this was something that an ordinary person could do. That never trickled through my brain. Until she remarried, my mom raised me by herself. Because we had to be super scrappy, I felt the pressure to grow up and have a “real” job. I just thought of acting as something for the rich and famous, to be honest.
My husband and I moved here, to New Mexico, during the pandemic. We moved here to be close to his dad. I was looking for a job and there was a need for a temporary stand-in for Katheryn Winnick. I was struggling to find a job and I showed up to do that. I remember that I had to be there at four AM, freezing cold… basically everything that could make for the worst first day you could have.

My husband was like, ‘I feel so bad for you,’ but I just LOVED IT. I was so enamored with everything. It set something on fire within me. I was there for a couple more months until the show wrapped. I was asked to stay because I was a good stand-in for her physically.
I liked watching and made a lot of friends on the crew side. I talked to a lot of people who, for instance, ran camera. I had no idea I’d want to make my own films at that point. I just wanted to ask a lot of questions, like what kinds of lenses they were using. It was fascinating. I still didn’t know what I wanted to do at that point.
Melissa: Realistically then, you’ve done a lot in the industry very quickly?
Audrey: Yeah, I’d say I was willing to try a lot of things. I was very curious. When that job ended, I was sad. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I didn’t really want to do extra work. I’d watched extra work, and I didn’t feel like that was for me. I’d seen those postings and that wasn’t what I wanted to do. I didn’t even really want to go back to stand-in work. I had lots of information from my crew friends, but I wasn’t sure what to do with that either. I remember there was an audition for The Curse, which was coming to town. I submitted for it blindly, did my audition, and got it.
Melissa: Did you have an agent at that point?
Audrey: I didn’t have an agent, but I was so excited to do that. That was my first acting opportunity where I realized that this was a real job and people really do this. I was there with Emma Stone, and it blew my mind to know that it was real, and it was here in New Mexico. So, that was my first taste of all of this. Then, the strikes started, though. It was a really rocky start for me.
(Interviewer): In some ways, perhaps, but you got lucky in ways that most people don’t.
(Audrey): Yup, and I’m so grateful for it. During the strikes I took every acting class I could. I’ve probably trained with everyone here in the area. I just trained, trained, trained. That was also the time that my film production company got up and running. I started writing and producing films, which has been a great way to meet everyone in town and become a part of the film community. If you’re just waiting around for auditions, that can be a very

(Interviewer): Insecurity is a big problem in this industry. You can go from being on set every day and then you’re off for a year.
(Audrey): Yes. It abruptly stops and that’s really hard. Every audition is different. Every job is different. It’s really tough. The quality of your craft, and your type, all plays a part. As a woman also, there can be challenges around aging, and body type, for instance.
(Interviewer): Most people view acting like it’s glamorous.
Audrey: (laughs.) It’s not glamorous. We’re all sitting in these trailers eating out of Styrofoam containers.
Melissa: How does this industry present itself in ways that are different than you expected?
Audrey: People are remarkably generous in ways that have blown me away. How kind people have been to me and extended themselves to me. So, that’s been a surprise. Also, the deeper ways that I’ve met myself have been a surprise.
(Interviewer): I’ve discovered in this industry that people are far more down to Earth than I expected.
(Audrey): Yes. You have to really be a workhorse. I don’t know that it’s totally a surprise to me, because I grew up in Los Angeles and already knew that, but people are surprised by the amount of time
you put into this business. So much of what you make you immediately reinvest into your career. It can be thankless. It’s a lot of work. You’re often underpaid. So, people are really grounded and incredibly giving. I’ve been shocked by people’s willingness to read with me and help me with an audition. They’re kinder than I expected. I remember crying at the end of my first short film because I couldn’t believe that fifty people were willing to come work for free for three days. People that didn’t even know me. Some were my friends, but some were willing to be there because they wanted to make art.
Melissa: What do you love about this career that keeps you coming back?
Audrey: I love the feeling that I can’t do something, and then I do it. There’s this emotional journey that I go on where I think I can’t accomplish something and then I do. That’s something that makes me feel alive. Proving to myself that I can… I need that. It makes me feel better knowing that I can do hard things, because life is hard. It also forces me to be be very present. I’m not someone who can meditate. Acting Is the closest that I get to meditating in terms of pushing everything aside in my brain and experiencing a reset. I’m attracted to that.
Melissa: There is a mystery around the term producer. Most people don’t know what a producer does. I’m curious, from your perspective as a producer, what does a producer do?
Audrey: It depends on the day. Some days, on really small productions, I’d say that a producer is a glorified PA (production assistant). In reality, it’s bigger than that in terms of being responsible for everything that goes on, from the beginning to end, and beyond, of a film. For instance, there’s a project that I’ve been working on for eighteen months. You’ve got all the pre-production of a film and there’s an enormous amount of work. For every location, you need a permit. I don’t think I made that connection when I was acting. I’ll be honest, now that I’ve done production, there’s a lot of projects that I decline. I was stunned by how much work goes into it, especially in terms of the paperwork, releases, contracts, before you ever step on set. But then, even when the film is wrapped, the producers’ workload is incredible- Film festivals, promotions, payments. I haven’t made a feature film and that’s something I really want to do. My husband has written one, comedy,
and that’s our goal for 2025/2026. Producing is essentially doing everything. There’s a difference between executive producer and line producer. Part of the difference is how engaged you are with the financing of the project. I’ve done both.
Melissa: Do you prefer acting or producing?
Audrey: I prefer acting. I’m not going to say one is more creative, because you actually get to shape a lot of the creativity as a producer. It depends on your director because there’s a relationship between a director and a producer. It’s a collaboration. I love being an actor more, and I love writing.
Melissa: What is it like working with your husband, who’s the co-owner of your production company?
Audrey: I love it, but I will say that it’s different than working with other people. We butt heads sometimes. There’s a level of honesty that’s there with your partner that isn’t always there professionally. If I don’t like something, we’re going to talk to each other immediately. Sometimes that can make the emotions flow more freely. With that said, I find it really fun and exciting. We love, love, love working together. He’s my best friend, which helps.
Melissa: You and your husband created the Morrison Production Company together? Yes
Melissa: Did the idea spark together or did one of you think of it?
Audrey: It was another accident. (Laughs). It made sense for us to have an LLC when we were making our first film. When we started, we didn’t think we’d have an actual film company. My husband has caught the bug and gone to American Film Market. He’s writing features. It organically evolved. Film is a labor of love. It wasn’t something we set out to do for a strategic reason. It comes out because it needs to. Like, the first film I made, it was because I was processing grief around my dad, who I hadn’t seen since I was a child, and who passed away at the beginning of the pandemic. I made it because I needed to do it. There was no strategic reason. I think my husband was trying to witness and be supportive of my process. Then we got approached to make other things. The feature he wrote, similarly, was based on an experience we had. It was too good
not to make something out of it and it came out really quickly. I think when a story needs to be told, it comes out really organically and easily. Instead of when you have to make a film. When you must force it, it comes out really slow. I’ve done that, where it’s not working. People ask me when I’m going to make another film. When I’ve lived enough. You know? That’s when the story comes.
Melissa: How does it work balancing family and this career?
Audrey: (Laughs.) It doesn’t. I’m always flailing and feeling guilty… I will say that since I’ve started, I now have two kids that are actors. It cracks me up. The kids like to roast me. Before they started acting, they’d all pretend to slate, imitating me. They get a kick out of the process. So, it’s nice that the kids understand it and that allows them to give me some grace. When mommy’s filming, they understand, so there’s some give and take there. Now, two are actually acting, which surprises me that they want too. It’s been interesting to be on the journey with them. My other two kids could care less.

Nessa Barrett - March 3, 2025
Fillmore Auditorium, Denver, CO
There’s a line out the door, lines for the merch, lines for the bar, and lines for the bathroom… it seems anybody who’s anybody KNOWS this is the show to be at tonight. Ari Abdul opens up the evening with a simple but wowing performance, enchanting the crowd with favorites like her viral hit “Babydoll” and “Worship”. Soon after, the lights go out and the pop princess herself starts her show. Nessa commands the stage with a soft and sensual appearance and sound. And if I didn’t respect her enough for her talent already, the fact that she acknowledges her band and introduces them to the crowd would make me (considering most artists don’t).
She puts on an incredible show the whole way through, despite having to take an oxygen break due to the higher altitude of “the mile high”. The diverse-in-age crowd knows Every. Single. Lyric. and sings along with them with heart. Once her most streamed song is played (“PORNSTAR” which sits at over 69 million as of the date this review was written) and as well as the absolute genius encore of “Aftercare”, the crowd still lingers taking pictures, buying merch and chatting with other concert goers. If you ever have the opportunity to see Nessa Barrett, it is 1000% an opportunity you should take.
