Traveling During The COVID-19 Pandemic Article by: Tyler Frawley

Who knew that instead of traveling to fun and exciting places, we would be stuck in our living rooms conjuring up memories of travel adventures or watching hundreds of hours of Netflix? 2020 certainly took over our lives and impacted every aspect of the travel and hospitality industry. However, with restrictions slowly lifting and life continuing around us, let us look at how to safely travel and resume our lives. 1. Find inclusive lodging. Some tourist sites and activities are either closed or operating at reduced capacities. Public beaches in some areas are also closed. The best practice while navigating Mexico, for example, is to stay at an all-inclusive resort. There, you will have access to a private beach, the benefit of round-the-clock cleaning, and the ability to enjoy the great amenities with minor changes. 2. Be sure to know before you go! Does the state you are visiting require a period of quarantine upon arrival? Does the US require you to quarantine after you return from international travel? These new rules could impact your vacation in more ways than one, and your one-week vacation could easily become a three-week vacation. 3. Monitor the situation and outbreaks. Does the place you are staying at have good cleaning standards? Are the outbreaks minimal? These are the questions you should be asking yourself, the hotel, and tour company. If you are going to a hot spot, tread with caution. Always wear your mask while indoors or in crowed areas and wash your hands before eating, touching your face, or assisting children. 4. Be kind to the staff. With closures and strict new polices placed on the tourism and hospitality industry, the staff’s pay has been less reliable. These new polices, plus going back to work in an unknown time, can be very stressful. The staff who are back to work need our support more than ever. Please show your appreciation and be sure to thank them.

Ty relaxing, having a cocktail, thinking about his next adventure!

5. Enjoy the outdoors! With indoor spaces either closed or at reduced capacities, the outdoors is relatively normal. Why not go for a camping trip, a hike, or even a road trip? Visiting a national park is always a great idea. All the things to see are outside; no need to navigate or wait in lines for indoor activities.

Editor's Column A World So Forever Changed

Editor-In-Chief: Georgez Dabit Photography: Trisha Ventker

Mask Designer: Kiko Yamada of Ninja Sketch

No matter where you are in the world, I think everyone can agree that 2020 was quite a year. So many things have changed in 2020, including the fashion industry where virtually everything has changed. Fashion shows have ceased or have had very limited attendance, buying clothes in stores is becoming a thing of the past as online sales have spiked, and of course, we cannot forget our newest fashion accessory: the mask! The required government-mandated mask is no stranger to anyone living in 2020, and for most, we have adjusted to wearing it anywhere we go. What’s even more interesting is that masks have become the newest fashion trend to hit the market; everyone is selling them. One may find themselves stumbling upon many different mask trends like cotton, simple designs, or rhinestone-covered masks, or even couture, designer-branded masks. Although masks are intended for heath and safety, there is nothing wrong with wanting to accessorize your mask to go with your outfit. My mask was custom made by Kiko!

In August, I turned 30 and what better way to celebrate 30 than to do a photoshoot dressed as a king. The reason I went with this look is because, like many great kings of the past, they were also icons of their time with their crowns and jewels. Much like the masks we wear now, these will forever be a symbol and icon of 2020, but I expect that we will not be taking them off for a long time, even after the pandemic.
