ACADEMIC CLASSES

Our passion for learning, innovative education model, and small class sizes with a maximum of 15 students support a diverse group of learners, including those with dyslexia and ADHD. Classes are in-person with Denver Academy teachers from June 12 to July 7 (no classes June 19 and July 4). Fees are $925 for each four-week Academic Class and students should be registered based on the grade they’re entering in the 2023-24 school year.

Each Elementary course has three levels (grades 1-2; 3-4; 5-6). Flexibility in student placement allows for remediation, review, or challenge enrichment. Students are evaluated and placed into appropriate levels on the first day of class.

Elementary Math

& Science

(Grades 1-2; 3-4; 5-6)

8:00 - 10:00 am

Math and Science concepts are taught at each level through small group instruction, the use of technology, textbooks, games & projects. Concrete/tactile, representative and abstract forms are used.

Denver Academy is accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools.

Elementary Reading

(Grades 1-2; 3-4; 5-6)

DA specializes in teaching dyslexic students and those with a wide range of learning profiles. Reading and writing concepts are taught at each level through smallgroup instruction, phonics-based, and multi-sensory techniques. DA uses Orton-Gillingham methods for reading fluency and spelling. We use comprehension strategies for passage, short-story, and novel reading. We will also work on the fundamentals of writing at each level (sentence structure, paragraph development, and essay writing). Keyboarding and Speech-to-Text technology are available.

ACADEMIC CLASSES

Our family temporarily moved from Kansas to Denver, specifically to enroll two of our children in the DA Summer Program. The compassion and personalized instruction from the staff far surpassed our expectations. Our kids’ progress was so remarkable during those five-weeks that we permanently relocated to Denver. This school has impacted our family in measurable ways.

Middle School Math & Science

8:00 - 10:00 am

Our passion for learning, innovative education model, and small class sizes with a maximum of 15 students support a diverse group of learners, including those with dyslexia and ADHD. Classes are in-person with Denver Academy teachers from June 12 to July 7 (no classes June 19 and July 4). All High School class fees are $625 for each four-week Academic Class and students should be registered based on the grade they’re entering in the 2022-23 school year.

“Everything I Wish I Learned” is a 4-day course, June 26 to 29 and costs $225.

High School course credits of .25 per class available to students in grades 10 through 12. Please contact Director of Summer Programs Barrie Bodden for additional information.

High School Algebra

8:00 - 9:30 am

Understand Algebra as a way of thinking. Learn concepts and skills to generalize, model, and analyze mathematical situations to investigate relationships, describe, organize, and understand the world. Concepts covered: Real numbers, systems of equations, algebraic manipulation, probability, linear functions & equations, and graphing functions.

High School Language Arts

9:30 - 11:00 am

Read a variety of genres and apply skills and strategies to strengthen comprehension, reading fluency, language and literacy skills. Learn and apply figures of speech and analyze how authors use them.

High School Writing

11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Develop writing skills through nonfiction and fiction assignments using technology to stimulate written expression/revision. Use the Six Traits of Writing to understand the writing process and its role in critical thinking.

Everything I Wish I Learned in High School: Executive Functioning for the Teenage Brain

12:30 - 2:30 pm

June 26 - 29

Learn executive functioning (mental processes that enable us to plan, focus, remember instructions and juggle multiple tasks) and everyday skills that will help you navigate life in high school and beyond. This is an intensive four-day course for those entering grades 9-12.

ACADEMIC CLASSES HIGH SCHOOL • GRADES 9 - 12 DA SUMMER PROGRAM

TUTORING & ACADEMIC COACHING

We understand that each child learns at their own pace and in their own unique way. Denver Academy provides individualized education for each student in our summer academic classes. We also specialize in one-on-one tutoring and academic coaching; a great way to keep your student focused for the next school year. Tutoring and coaching are by appointment only.

Orton-Gillingham Reading Intervention

20-Hour Tutoring Intensive

This one-on-one reading intervention uses Denver Academy’s phonics-based reading approach utilizing the Orton-Gillingham method. Phonemic awareness and general language ability is strengthened. Additional hour-long pre-assessment required.

Fee: $1900 for 20-hour Intensive + $95 pre-assessment

Academic Coaching

Experience Denver Academy’s relationship-based approach to learning with direct one-on-one instruction in academic organization, test-taking and study skills, as well as academic support in a range of subjects at elementary, middle and high school levels: math, reading fluency and comprehension, writing, spelling, and science.

Fee: $85 per hour

Campos EPC SmartLab Camps: Science, Math, Art, Robotics and Technology

With the Campos EPC SmartLab at Denver Academy, our daughter Charlotte is really able to show her strengths in math and science.

(Grades 1-4) June 20 - 23

Middle School SmartLab Camp

(Grades 5-8) June 26 - 29

Tailored by age level, we put technology and learning resources in the hands of students while they build problem-solving skills. Enjoy introductions to coding, robotics, and 3D printing!

Camp Fee: $250

Robotics Camp

(Grades 7-12)

Two-Week Camp June 12 - 15; June 20 - 23

Students will get an introduction to building and programming robots that are able to compete in FIRST FTC robotics competitions. This camp will focus on the fundamentals of designing and building a robot, as well as the coding necessary to make the

robot run as desired. The robots will be tested under competitive circumstances. The goal is for students to get a feel for what it takes to design and build the physical robot and create the code needed to run it in FIRST FTC tournaments. All materials are supplied. Camp Fee: $500

Elementary LEGO Engineering Camp (Grades 1-4) June 12 - 15

In this camp, students are encouraged to think creatively to create original constructions, complete challenges, and develop their own solutions to problems. Campers will learn about the basics of energy and simple machines all while playing with the world’s greatest toy, LEGO! Camp Fee: $225

NOTE: All 2023 Summer Day Camps take place from 12:00 - 2:30 p.m. on dates listed. Students may bring their lunch to camp for a supervised lunch/social period at noon.

Middle School Improv Camp

(Grades 5-8) June 20 - 23

Get into improv! Build confidence and creativity with short-form games and improvised scenes in a supportive environment. Learn about theatre while having fun.

Camp Fee: $225

Cooking 101

(Grades 6-8) June 12 - 15

Learn about the world of food in this hands-on cooking class. Make a complete meal, tackling different courses each day. Take home a packet of recipes to re-create for your family! You will also learn about etiquette, nutrition, navigating a grocery store and the valuable life skill of cleaning up the kitchen. All ingredients will be supplied.

Camp Fee: $275

Welding Camp

(Grades 9-12) June 20 - 22

Join Mr. Fritzsche in DA’s Saipe Family Metal Arts Shop learning the tools and tricks of the trade. Campers will try their hand at basic blueprint drawing, learn about the science of metals, and explore the many tools and processes used in metal fabrication. Learn MIG welding, plasma cutting, how to use a band saw, chop saw, angle grinders, and much more. More advanced students will also be introduced to TIG welding and Oxy Torch applications for heating and welding. Students should arrive with cotton jeans, a t-shirt, and a long-sleeve flannel style shirt, leather boots, a healthy lunch, and a snack. Price includes all materials and space is limited.

Spend summer afternoons at DA playing a variety of games and sports. Keep your body moving, stay active and have FUN. The camp includes some PE favorites and a few surprises too! Students will be split into two groups: grades 1-4 and 5-8. Weekly themes will be posted on our website. Each group will be limited to 14 participants.
