As Denver Academy sets out to explore the possibilities for new campus improvements this year, we look back on and celebrate the success of our past efforts: A STAGE THAT INSPIRES • A COURT THAT CHALLENGES • A SPACE THAT TEACHES A GIFT THAT SUSTAINS
Thanks to donors like you, our vision became a reality and we completed the Building on Excellence 50th Anniversary Campaign during the 2023-24 school year. Thank you!
THE DENVER ACADEMY BUILDING ON EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN began in 2016 to celebrate our school’s 50th anniversary in 2022. Thanks to our amazing donors in the DA community and beyond, we reached our $25 million goal, funding the following completed projects.
Thank you to our partners along the way: Anser Advisory (project advisory firm); CCS Fundraising (strategic fundraising consulting firm); Clutch Design Studio (architect); Cunningham Group Architecture, Inc. (architect); and JHL Constructors, Inc. (construction contractors).
Renovation of the Elementary Building
Reopened
February 2019
A new elementary/6th grade space helps provide an environment conducive to collaboration, movement, flexibility, technology, and concentration. It includes flexible learning spaces, along with the first of three Campos EPC SmartLabs.
Construction of the James E. Loan Athletic Center
Opened May 2019
Through sports and fitness training and team sports events, students have opportunities to develop teamwork, self-discipline, confidence, and character in our athletic center. Inside, the Lockton Family Gymnasium has bleachers that seat 500 – allowing our entire community of students, teachers, and staff to gather together.
Construction of the Louise McCabe Performing Arts Center
Opened October 2023
This 16,000-square-foot space provides an inspiring setting for students to create, perform, and thrive. The building includes generously funded spaces such as the Gary Family Theater which seats 250; the Martin Family Stage; the Berke Blackbox Theater; the Woodward Family Lobby; the Catherine N. D’Amato Plaza; and vocal and instrumental music classroom spaces.
Grew Denver Academy’s Endowment Fund by $2 million
A stronger endowment has enabled us to navigate economic fluctuations, increase faculty salaries, and continue to provide tuition assistance to those families who need it.
Installation of Three Campos EPC SmartLabs Completed Fall 2023
SmartLabs throughout our campus use learning materials and a curriculum developed by Creative Learning Systems (CLS). The curriculum includes hands-on exploration of mechanics and structures, computer graphics, photo editing, 3D modeling, sound engineering, scientific data and analysis, digital communications, alternative and renewable energy, robotics and more. Thank you to Campos EPC Foundation and Creative Learning Systems (SmartLab developer) for these spaces.
2023-24 FINANCIALS & FUNDRAISING
Tuition Assistance
THE DENVER ACADEMY Tuition Assistance Program provides financial assistance for students who would otherwise be unable to attend DA. The funds for tuition assistance come from four main sources: operating budget, gala earnings, grants and individual contributions, and endowment disbursements. The 2024 Gala, “Denim & Diamonds,” raised $382,000 for tuition assistance. The DA Tuition Assistance Program awarded almost $1.8 million for 127 students, with an average award of $13,500 in the 2023-24 school year.
The Fund for Denver Academy
Thank you to all 397 community members who participated! We raised $338,176. The Fund supports student success throughout the year and is used for the greatest needs — everything from teacher salaries to WiFi.
Legacy Society
Legacy Society members have honored Denver Academy with a planned gift, often naming DA as a beneficiary in their estate planning documents. As of June 30, 2024, there were 77 Legacy Society members.
The Endowment Fund
The Denver Academy Endowment Fund exists through the generosity of more than 780 donors and foundations. In the 2024 fiscal year, $111,842 was raised by 29 donors.
The DA Endowment is invested as a single entity and is a perpetual source of support for DA’s mission, helping ensure the long-term sustainability of the school.
