Welcome to Central Park this evening for this JD Cymru North game against Prestatyn Town. I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Prestatyn players, coaching team, Committee and supporters
Last weekend our three senior teams scored 15 goals between them as all three bagged emphatic wins. Our first team won 5-0 away at Buckley who are riding high in the JD Cymru North, our Ladies won 3-1 away at Welshpool and our Reserves beat Mold Alexandra 7-1 here at Central Park What a weekend and the players and coaches of all three teams deserve so much credit I can’t remember such a weekend for all our teams winning so well.
This evening, we host Prestatyn who are now under the managership of Gareth (Perry) Thomas We all have fond memories of Perry’s time as manager here back in 2016 when we reached the Nathaniel MG Cup Final as the first team from outside the Welsh Premier League to ever reach the final of the competition The Nathaniel MG Cup is the FAW’s equivalent of the League Cup with all Cymru Premier, North and South clubs involved
In 2016 we faced TNS at Llandudno and ran out 2-0 losers in front of over 1,000 spectators (most of whom were from Denbigh) Last week TNS won the competition again, beating Aberystwyth 1-0 in the final at Newtown.
We are now moving towards the end of the season with the last first team game scheduled here for Friday 4th April against Llay Welfare. Shortly after that, we will start work on extending our pitch in both directions to comply with UEFA regulations for the UEFA Under 19s Tournament games being played here in June 2026 The conifer hedge at the Denbigh High School end of the ground has been removed and replaced by a fence This gives us room to extend the pitch here, although it will mean us digging up the tarmac path that is in place.
At the Myddleton College end of the ground, we will move the fence that is in place now back some three metres having bought a strip of land from the Council. We will then dig into the bank to extend the pitch in this area. Once the new extended pitch has been laid, a tarmac path will be built to ensure we have a walkway all around the perimeter of the pitch
You can now see that we have reached first-floor level with the blockwork on our new community facility The joists will shortly be put in place for the ceiling, and we will then continue with blockwork on the first floor Our aim is to have the build completed in time for the start of next season
As the season comes to a close, I must take some time to thank all the volunteers we have within the Club There is so much going on behind the scenes to help run the Club both within the Senior and Junior sectors. Without the dedicated support of volunteers and coaches, the Club would not exist as it could not function. We are fortunate as a Club to have such a band of people who are willing to donate so much of their time towards the running of the Club
We always need more helpers, especially on Match Days and if you feel you would like to be involved in the Club going forward to the new season please have a word with myself, Iwan or Ollie who are always around on Match Days, in the meantime, enjoy tonight’s game
Welcome back to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North game against Prestatyn Town in a Denbighshire derby.
Last Saturday we comprehensively beat fourth-placed Buckley 5-0 on their home ground in one of our best displays this season. To go in 4-0 at half time after scoring four so well-taken goals was something else, and in all honesty, I felt we could have been further ahead We had three very strong penalty claims turned down in that first forty-five minutes In the end that didn’t matter as we ran out deserved winners on a pitch that in parts resembled one of my cattle fields.
Nathan Brown scored one of the goals of the season with such a fantastic strike to give us a 1-0 lead It was such a sweet strike and can be seen on our social media outlets – well worth a view.
Bobby Beaumont claimed our second which in itself was another top-class goal as his looping header from twelve yards found the top corner of the net giving our ex-keeper young Jimmy McHarrie no chance.
Alfie Vaughan had played as our number nine up front against Ruthin in the 1-1 draw a fortnight ago and had impressed me and warranted a similar role against Buckley. He proved to be a handful for the Buckley defence and was rewarded with a well-placed goal just before the break then nabbed his second with him running onto a through ball from youngster Gabriel Hinchcliffe in the dying moments of the game. Sam Duffy scored our fourth just before half time as he found himself in space in the penalty area to place the ball coolly into the net.
Sam is one of three players who have recently committed themselves already to next season’s campaign at the Club by signing a contract until May 2026 as we look to build on the solid foundations that we have laid this season I’m delighted that Sam, Nathan Brown and Ben Lockley have all shown their allegiance to the Club and its plans for next season both on and off the field with the new Community Building due to be finished in the summer. This club really is in such a strong position going forward
This evening, we face a Prestatyn team that are fighting for their survival. Despite their League position they have had improved results and performances since the New Year. They lost closely 1-0 to third-placed Holywell last Friday night in what by all accounts was a close contest
We know it’s going to be a tough encounter as there wasn’t much between us when we met at Bastion Gardens on a wet, wild and windy night just before Christmas when Nathan scored a late winner in our 2-1 win
Everyone bar Nathan is available for selection tonight as we move into the latter stages of the season Nathan is suspended for just this game It has been good to see Keelan Williams back in full training for the last few weeks after his planned operation in early January and he will figure in the squad. With six games left we have three at home and will look to gain maximum points from these games.
As a group we are all so appreciative of your support both home and away. It is such a pleasure to play at Central Park in front of such a partisan crowd and it does help the lads, thank you.
Buckley Town 0-5 Denbigh Town
Denbigh Town were clinical on Saturday as Dewi Llion’s side brushed Buckley aside at the Globe.
A brace for Alfie Vaughan along with strikes from Nathan Brown, Bobby Beaumont and Sam Duffy saw off the Bucks in a brilliant away display. Meanwhile a resolute defensive performance saw Denbigh keep a first clean sheet in six games.
Town made three changes to the XI with Elijah Beattie starting in goal along with Owen Davies and Danny Clarke coming into the side.
The first talking point of the contest came on 14 minutes when Denbigh stood in disbelief at the referee's lack of action. After superb link-up play between Davies and Brown the former was hacked down in the box only for the officials to remain unmoved. Less than a minute later and surely the referee would point to the spot when Sam Duffy ran through and was chopped down by goalkeeper Jimmy McHarrie but again nothing given
On 23 minutes a superb ball from Brown found Duffy who sprinted on to the ball only to strike first time and blaze over the crossbar Buckley had their first opportunity two minutes later when a free-kick into the Town box was met by Dan Burgess whose effort at an angle was stopped by Beattie
Just before the half hour mark Town had the lead and what a strike it was A throw came into the box before being half cleared and falling to Brown who lashed a volley into the top left corner.
Not keen to rest on the slender advantage, Town went for a second and delivered on it just two minutes after grabbing the opener. Brown turned provider when his corner met the head of Beaumont who looped the ball into the far corner. Town made a habit of quick fire doubles when with two minutes of the first 45 to play Vaughan had his first when he swept the ball into the bottom left corner. Moments later in stoppage time Denbigh were in dreamland with Duffy rushing through one on one to make it four going into the break.
Buckley had the first chance of the half when Moore once again struck the post from an angle as the hosts looked to get back into it early.
Vaughan caused problems for Buckley though and on 58 minutes almost made it five when he turned his man and forced a powerful effort, only for McHarrie to tip over
Iwan Roberts was introduced just after the hour mark and caused issues for the back four, and on 74 minutes almost got on the scoresheet when neat footwork on the left saw him make inroads into the box and shoot, his effort was blocked before he rebounded wide
A moment later he again cut inside before forcing McHarrie to tip the ball behind Ben Lockley almost had his name on the scoresheet when a corner was swung back in by Vaughan, headed across by Beaumont and Lockley’s effort missed the target with a suspicion of a deflection
With five minutes to play Buckley struck the post once again via Moore on an afternoon that really didn’t look like being theirs. The icing on the cake came for Denbigh in stoppage time as another substitute Gabriel Hinchcliffe nodded the ball forward for Vaughan who ran through and calmly slotted the ball home.
Denbigh Town: Beattie, Flanders, Lockley, Beaumont, Clarke, K Roberts, Jones, Brown, Duffy, Davies, Vaughan
Subs: Cooper, Williams, Pownall, Butler, Hinchcliffe, Salisbury, I.Roberts
Referee: Mark James
Attendance: 240
POTM: Alfie Vaughan - Brave, physical and clinical. Vaughan led the line superbly on mudbath.
Denbigh Town Reserves made is back-to-back wins last weekend with a 7-1 dismantling of Mold Alexandra.
It came a week after an impressive 2-1 win over Connah’s Quay sending Liam Nash’s side to 6th in the FAW Reserve League North East.
Last Friday Town ran riot at Central Park with a superb Kyle Cooper hatrick setting the tone. The defender scored twice directly from a corner before completing it with a free-kick from the halfway line.
Tom Salisbury also netted twice but just couldn’t find the third whilst Gabriel Hinchcliffe opened the scoring and Sam Luke closed it with his first of the campaign.
Town welcomed Rhodri Edwards back to the side as a late substitute whilst Sam Tate grabbed an impressive duo of assists. Aled Hughes made his first start for the club.
In the game a week previous Town made it a remarkable double over Connah’s Quay, having won 5-4 away earlier this season.
Tom Salisbury opened the scoring on 23 minutes before doubling the advantage in the second half Despite a late fightback Town held on for a superb win.
Tonight they travel to Shropshire for the rearranged fixture away at 3rd placed TNS at Park Hall

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.
The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination.
The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s
Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles
After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years
The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.
In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.
Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back
Ground: Bastion Gardens
Capacity: 2,300
Nickname: The Seasiders
Founded: 1910
2023/24: 13th
Manager: Gareth Thomas
Formed in 1910 the club won the North Wales Coast FA Junior Cup in the 19281929 season, the first piece of silverware of its existence.
Success didn’t come about until the end of the 1971-1972 season when they won the Dyserth Area League Having had a taste for success, they didn’t want to relent and won the same thing in the 1972-1973 and 1973-1974 seasons At that point, the Dyserth Area League was merged together with the Halkyn Mountain League to create the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Football League, otherwise known as the Clwyd Premier League
Prestatyn Town didn’t let the added competition that came with the new league stop their run of success, however They did a league and cup double in 1974-1975, winning their division and the Clwyd Premier Cup.
The following year they repeated the trick, though that was their last silverware until the won the Clwyd Premier Cup again in 1982
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s The Seasiders won occasional trophies to keep the fans interested, such as the Clwyd President’s Cup in 1984 and the REM Jones Cup in 1995
The club entered the Cymru Alliance and after winning the league title in 2008, they were promoted to the Welsh Premier League for the 2008/09 season
Their promotion was dependent on their ground, Bastion Gardens, meeting certain criteria, meaning that the stadium had to be upgraded by 1 May 2008. The club installed floodlights and their promotion to the Welsh Premier League was ratified. The club maintained Premier League status for a second season with a 15th-place finish in 2008–09
Under the guidance of chairman Phil Merrick and CEO Leigh Williams, the club had its most successful season in 2012/13 This was down to manager Neil Gibson's ability to attract and coach ex-professional players such as Andy Parkinson and Jason Price They beat champions The New Saints for the first time and it was also the first time they had ever been top of the Welsh Premier League. They won the NWCFA Challenge Cup and beat local rivals Bangor City 3-1 after extra-time to win the Welsh Cup Final at the Racecourse, Wrexham They then went on to make Welsh football history by being the first Welsh club to reach the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League at the first attempt In the first qualifying round they beat Latvian side Liepajas Metalurgs to then go on and play HNK Rijeka at Kantrida Stadium Captain Dave Hayes led out the team in front of 10,000 fans
As the 2013–14 season began, there were multiple players leaving the club to pastures new and as a result, the performance of the club for the next couple of years started to deteriorate, but at the end of the season they survived relegation with an 11th-place finish In the 2014–15 season the club were ultimately relegated with a 12th-place finish and no mathematical chance of surviving, their relegation was confirmed as Llandudno were promoted from the Cymru Alliance, ending a seven-year stint in Wales's top division
The club returned to the top flight for a season before returning to the second tier They won the JD Cymru North in 2019/20 but couldn’t gain promotion, and have remained in the second tier since

Prestatyn Town 1-2 Denbigh Town (JD Cymru North17/12/2024)
Nathan Brown’s late strike at Bastion Gardens saw Town take three points against Prestatyn earlier this season in a tough battle.
Former Prestatyn forward Sam Duffy opened the scoring for Denbigh with a superb effort from the edge of the box that squeezed past the keeper However, the home side replied quickly with a leveller from Oli Buckley
Denbigh pushed for a winner and it came with five minutes to spare when Brown bundled the ball home to end a run of three losses on the spin in the Cymru North
Denbigh Town: A Jones, Williams, Vaughan, Cooke, Lockley, K Roberts, Butler, Brown, I Roberts, Duffy, Davies
Subs: Wilmot, I Jones, Stark, Fricker, S Jones, Salisbury, Kanli

Denbigh Town 4-3 Prestatyn Town (JD Cymru North27/02/2024)
Our last meeting at Central Park saw Town win by the odd goal in a seven strike thriller that should have been out of sight early on.
Ben Lockley and Matthew Worrall put Town 2-0 up inside 13 minutes but Denbigh allowed the visitors to reply twice in the opening 20 Worrall netted again on 24 minutes before Tom Weir’s leveller five minutes into the second half
However, six minutes later Owen Davies retook the lead and that’s how it stayed in a back and forth encounter at LL16 as Town took a Denbighshire double over Prestatyn
