CROESOBARC CONOLOG

Welcome to Central Park this evening for our JD Cymru North game against Buckley Town.

I can’t tell you how pleased and excited we are to at last be able to host a home game here at Central Park The last one played here was on Friday 4th April, and since then, so much work has gone on at the ground as we strive to improve our facilities.

I’d like to thank both Bala Town FC and Colwyn Bay FC for helping us out by allowing us to play our first three home games of the season at their grounds Their hospitality has been first class, and we are so indebted to them

The pitch looks in excellent condition after the work carried out by 360 Groundcare over the summer. I was concerned that we had left it too late to reseed the pitch after having last season’s pitch removed and having groundwork and additional sprinklers installed Fair play to Miles and his team, it looks superb

As you’ll see, the work around the ground is not finished We are fencing off the area behind the Myddleton College End as we have work to complete here. We aim to have concrete blocks put in place supporting the bank, and then we will tarmac the area to make it a large standing area for supporters

The bases are ready for the two 50-seater stands that will be on the far side of the ground The stands themselves are in the process of being finished and will be delivered during October. The FAW are arranging for us to have new dugouts, and these we understand are on order The players and officials will be able to change in our new changing rooms, which are next to our new Red Café. Upstairs, our new function/educational/community room is more or less complete. The finishing touches will happen over the next few weeks, and we aim to open this facility with a special event in October/November.

In the meantime, the Clubhouse bar alongside the stand has been improved and will be serving hot and cold soft drinks along with alcoholic beverages.

There are so many tradesmen who have worked tirelessly since we started the project in May 2024, and I can’t thank them enough Over 80% of the work has been carried out by local firms and the end result is a ground that the town of Denbigh should be proud of and will be here for the foreseeable future.

Tonight’s game could not go ahead without the help of our volunteers, and we are pleased that several new volunteers have stepped forward over the summer months to help the existing group We have an excellent team behind the scenes and if you feel you wish to help out in any form, please have a word with myself, Iwan or Ollie.

Dewi and his lads have had a good start to the League season, and I’m hoping they continue with that tonight and collect the three points It won’t be easy as Buckley are always tough opponents, and it bodes for an exciting game

Good evening and a very warm welcome to our first home game of the season to be played here at Central Park.

It is so good to be here as we’ve all seen the work that has been going on at the ground as we’ve been training on the Rec alongside Central Park throughout the summer months. The pitch looks amazing, and the lads can’t wait to get out on it after having to play three home games away from Central Park during July and August

Whilst not everything is in place off the field, it is on the pitch that we are concentrating our efforts after a decent start to the season. This season the JD Cymru North is without doubt a tough league with some top-class sides. With five league games played, we’ve had one of our better starts to a season for a few years Three good wins against Caersws, Gresford and Mold and a draw at Penrhyncoch now see us in fifth position We all know there is a long way to go before the end of the season Our only league loss has come in a 2-1 defeat to Holywell, and I felt we were so unlucky not to have had at least a draw in that game as we dominated the latter stages of the game.

In the Cups we are in the third round of the Nathaniel MG Cup after beating Rhyl 1879 on penalties in a really even game We now go on to face Llandudno away on Tuesday, 16th September Last Saturday we faced Rhyl 1879 again in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup and once again the game ended in a draw, and this time it was Rhyl who won the penalty shoot-out. I was away for the game and heard that it was an even game with both sides having chances to win the game within the 90 minutes.

The transfer window has now closed, and like all managers, we now know the playing squad we’ll have until the window opens again in January I’m pleased to have added some quality players to our ranks with Gwion Dafydd and Nathan Doforo joining from TNS and Scott McHarrie from Buckley. Gwion has been known to me for some time, and I knew of his ability. He was on loan at Colwyn Bay last season and netted 14 league goals in 20 appearances. 19-year-old Nathan is a full back who has come through TNS’ development team and made 6 league appearances for the first team last season Scott was with us some seasons ago, he’s a tough-tackling and skilful midfielder and he made a telling debut last weekend against Rhyl

Aidan Higgins has decided to move on to Llandudno, which is disappointing. We welcomed him into the squad, and he had made an excellent start to the season I wanted him to stay but he chose to move on down the coast We wish him well with his career

We have some lads with injuries sustained over the last few weeks. Sion Jones is out for a few weeks as he has ligament damage after a challenge at Penrhyncoch. Keiron Roberts and Alfie Vaughan will have late fitness tests. Keelan Williams had a planned operation earlier this week, and we hope everything goes well for him and that his recovery comes about swiftly

Tonight, we face Asa Hamilton’s Buckley side It’s never easy against them, and we know tonight will be no exception. Despite losing three of their five opening league games, I know the strength they have within their squad, and they have won their last two games against Flint Mountain in the League and last weekend 2-1 at Holyhead Hotspur in the Cup

Thanks for all your support, especially those who have travelled to our home and away games so far this season. It really is appreciated.

TOWN EXIT THE WBS LEAGUE CUP

Denbigh Town exited the WBS League Cup at the first hurdle on Saturday following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Rhyl.

Town fell behind in the early stages but fought back through Nathan Brown, and four weeks on from our penalty success on the same ground, this time there was less drama as the hosts came through.

Denbigh made six changes to the XI that faced Penrhyncoch five days previous with Scott McHarrie making his debut whilst Brad Barnes, Dan Flanders, Owen Payne, Matthew Worrall and Cameron Darling came into the side

As we kicked off in the showery conditions of Belle Vue it took six minutes for the first chance of the game Morgan Murray striking the post from his effort inside the box Four minutes later Darling was called upon in goal to deny Seb Bolton’s header as the ‘keeper tipped the ball over

Though Denbigh edged possession it took until the 26th minute to come close when Brown squared the ball to Sam Duffy inside the box but he couldn’t keep his shot down

On the half-hour mark the deadlock was broken when Ben Lightfoot waltzed through in the box before squeezing the ball past Darling to give his side the advantage Town had to respond and closed out the first half well when Brown forced Alex Swindell into a superb stop before Ben Lockley’s follow-up was blocked on the line

Into stoppage time and a Denbigh corner wasn’t cleared with the ball falling to Lockley who was brought down in the box Brown stepped up for the penalty which he buried into the bottom right corner to restore parity as the half came to an end

The first chance of the second period fell to the home side nine minutes in when former Town defender Billy Holmes crossed from the left finding Archie Jones, but his acrobatic effort flew over

The best chance of the second half though came the way of Town, as Barnes blocked a clearance before running through but his low drive was tipped behind by Swindell. From the resulting corner Rhyl didn’t clear their lines and Barnes fired over from the edge of the box.

Town’s discipline almost cost them dearly with four free-kicks on the edge of the box awarded to the home side. The first was just wide from Murray on 71 minutes before three minutes later his effort was dealt with by Darling Murray found the woodwork once more on 83 minutes when his shot from a set piece hit the bar and Paul Fleming’s follow-up header sailed over

With neither side able to find a winner, penalties were required After the first four hit the net McHarrie had his effort saved which turned out to be the only effort that didn’t find the target, and Rhyl advanced via the spot

Last time out in the JD Cymru North Denbigh travelled to Penrhyncoch where Alfie Vaughan’s opening goal in the first half was cancelled out in stoppage time by the Roosters It halted Town’s chance of grabbing three wins on the bounce in the JD Cymru North, however, Denbigh remain 5 in the table after a superb start having won 3-1 three days earlier against Mold Alexandra in Colwyn Bay

th

A brace from Matthew Worrall and Bobby Beaumont header secured the three points against the Flintshire side.

Subs: H.Lockley, Roberts, Johnston, J.Duffy, Vaughan

Referee: James Walker

Attendance: 335

POTM: Scott McHarrie - Despite failing from the spot the midfielder had an excellent debut in the middle of the park and impressed early on

Denbigh Town: Darling, Beaumont, Payne, B.Lockley, Flanders, Cooke, McHarrie, Brown, S.Duffy, Barnes, Worrall

Denbigh Town Reserves picked up a dramatic win last Sunday for their first three points of the campaign.

A depleted Denbigh side made the trip to Gresford last weekend with a makeshift squad looking to kickstart their season.

Manager Liam Nash named himself in the XI whilst new signing Joel Duffy joined brothers Sam and Jacob in the side, as the brothers shared the pitch for the first time.

10 minutes in and Jacob Duffy opened the scoring before Nash himself got on the scoresheet heading home from a corner.

Despite a dream start Gresford hit back twice in first half stoppage time to draw level at the break.

Another Duffy, Sam this time found the target on 61 minutes before Rhys Lloyd doubled the lead five minutes later from Jacob Duffy’s assist.

Gresford pulled another back to set up a tense finish with 11 to go but Town held on for an impressive win at Clappers Lane.

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1876 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.

The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination

The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s.

Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles.

After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years

The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007

In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.

Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back.

THE OPPOSITION BUCKLEY TOWN

Nickname: The Bucks

Founded: 1977

Football arrived in Buckley around 1860, complete with ‘jumpers for goalposts’ because the Lord of the Manor forbade permanent wooden posts on The Common.

The first ‘official’ club was the ‘Belmont Swifts Football Club’, then came the ‘Buckley Victoria Football Club’, which in turn morphed into ‘Buckley Engineers’ whose most famous team of ten colliers and one plumber picked up an impressive haul of silverware, including winning the Welsh Amateur Cup on three occasions

In 1887 ‘Buckley Football Club’ appeared and continued the town’s tradition of success, winning amongst other things, a double of the Wirral & District League and Pike Challenge Cup in 1898

Buckley continued to play right up to the 1920s, and in 1925 joined the Welsh League, North Division After a fallow period, in 1937 Buckley Town A F C won the North Wales Amateur Cup but by 1949 Buckley Wanderers & Buckley Rovers were the teams playing football in Buckley, with Rovers in the Welsh Leagues and Buckley Wanderers in the Welsh National League Division One After a couple of runners-up finishes, in the 55/56 season, Buckley Wanderers secured the League title, scoring over one hundred goals along the way

For season 60/61, Buckley Wanderers were joined in Division One by Rovers Wanderers grabbed yet another runners-up spot but Rovers had a tougher time, finishing ninth. Having been relegated in the 63/64 season, and bouncing straight back up, the early seventies saw Rovers in the ascendancy, with a runner-up and third-place finish The 1976-77 season saw a turning point after both teams had finished in the bottom half, and in 1977 Rovers & Wanderers joined forces to become Buckley Football Club Finishing as runners-up in the Welsh National Premier Division in season 92/93, Buckley Town were elected to the Cymru Alliance League, the second tier of football in Wales
