Welcome to Central Park this evening for our JD Cymru North game against Flint Mountain. I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to the Flint Mountain players. Management team, their Committee and Supporters.
Last Friday, after all the work carried out on the ground over the close season, we held our first home game of the season here at Central Park against Buckley. We were delighted with the attendance of 584, which was the highest attendance that weekend of all games held in the FAW leagues throughout Wales. A fantastic response from the people of Denbigh and the surrounding area in coming down to support the team and see our new facilities Thank you ever so much to everyone who attended It meant so much
The finishing touches we had to make to the ground last Friday were something to be seen Only one of the changing rooms had been finished by Thursday night, with the benches in the away room not in place and still needing to be completed on Friday morning The forecourt of the ground and walkway passing the entrance to the changing rooms was only laid with tarmac at 10am that morning, and the astroturf in the technical area by the dugouts was laid a few hours before kick off.
Most importantly, the pitch was only cut during the early afternoon by a lawn mower with the operator walking 18 miles as he cut the grass Then the pitch was marked before the goals were finally erected at 4pm.
The tradesmen who have worked so hard over the whole 15 months that the project has taken left the ground at 4pm after making the concourses as safe as possible for the 584 spectators. I really can’t thank them enough for all their work and reaching the deadline to allow us to hold the game An absolutely first-class effort by every one of them.
I believe the night itself was a success We were blessed with a lovely evening to hold a game and were able to serve hot and cold food in the kitchen, along with alcohol and soft drinks in our old bar. It was a tight squeeze exiting the game at our exit gate This will improve over the next few games as we get lighting in place behind the new building, and we tarmac the concourse in this area. This will allow everyone to exit by the traditional exit gates.
Please continue to bear with us in this interim period. It is my aim to have everything in place by early November, by then we will be opening our function room on the first floor, have the two new 50 seater stands in place on the far side of the ground, along with new 22 seater dugouts. On the football side of things, I felt it was a very close game between us and Buckley Town that night It was played at a high tempo at times, with both teams showing their high fitness levels Both teams had chances to win the game, and I believe a draw was a fitting result and made for an excellent advert for the JD Cymru North I know many new spectators to the ground were so impressed with the standard of the game. Credit to both sides.
This evening, as we welcome Flint Mountain, it would be great to go one step further and get that first win on the new pitch and with our new facilities.
joined us from TNS Both equipped themselves well in their time on the pitch Neither of them h completed 90 minutes of football since the end of last season and I was impressed with both of th contributions to the game
It was a game of high energy for a lot of the time We started well and could well have been ahe during the first 15 minutes Buckley came into the game, and they had a good spell leading up to h time, with them taking the lead on 27 minutes. Just before half time Nathan Brown did so well to ke a cool head after breaking the Buckley offside trap and sprinting goalward Their keeper, Jim McHarrie, did well to block Nay’s initial shot only for Nay to keep his composure and fire in from rebound I felt a 1-1 draw was a fair reflection on the game from two evenly matched sides
Tonight, we face a Flint Mountain team who haven’t had the best of starts in the League with just o point from six games We faced each other at their home base of Prestatyn in the first round of Nathaniel MG Cup when we came out 3-1 winners with two late goals from Nay and Ben Lockley. pitch that evening was one of the poorest we’ve played on in a long time, and we are so lucky to h the surface here at Central Park.
Last Sunday, Flint Mountain announced that their manager Andrew Ruscoe had left the Club and we go to print, I am unsure as to who they will have in charge. However, I have told our lads training that we have to beware of the fact that all Mountain’s players will be looking to impress new manager, and we need to watch out for the “new manager” bounce which can give the play increased motivation
We have trained well in the week Sion Jones will be out for some time with ligament damage to his leg and Keelan Williams is recovering well from a planned operation. Everyone e within the squad is available for selection.
I’m looking for a win tonight and claiming our first three points this season at Central Park
Denbigh Town made their long-awaited return to Central Park on Friday night in front of a bumper crowd of just shy of 600, as Town shared the points with Buckley.
Nathan Brown’s equaliser saw him rise to jointfourth on the recorded goal scorers list on what was already a historic night, as Denbigh opened up their new facilities changing rooms for the first time.
Dewi Llion made five changes to the side that faced Rhyl six days previous with both Gwion Dafydd and Nathan Doforo making their debuts Elijah Beattie returned to the XI along with Keiron Roberts, Luke Johnston and Alfie Vaughan
Seven minutes into the contest the first sight of goal was had by Denbigh when Doforo made a superb run down the left before his cross found Matthew Worrall at the back stick, but his cushioned volley was thwarted by Jimmy McHarrie.
In an early onslaught from Town Dafydd had his first chance when pouncing on a mistake at the back on 11 minutes, but his effort was stopped at the near post, whilst three minutes later he put an effort just wide from the edge of the box
Buckley’s first chance came on 23 minutes when a free-kick from the left was headed at goal but Beattie made an excellent save but four minutes later it wouldn’t be the same result Another ball into the Town box was headed towards goal by Nic Grogan to hand the visitors the lead.
Five minutes before the break Town came close again when a ball dropped to Worrall who’s looping volley landed just wide of the mark However, in stoppage time a long ball from Beattie was flicked on by Vaughan who found Brown, he ran through before his initial shot was saved before smashing it on the swivel to level
Shortly after the break Denbigh came close to a quick turnaround when Doforo again on the left crossed for Worrall who had his header expertly denied by McHarrie.
Both sides saw plenty of the ball but it took until 65 minutes for the next chance of note when Brown delivered from deep for Ben Lockley at the back post, but again McHarrie made a great save
A free-kick routine almost unpicked the Buckley defence with quarter of an hour to go as Brown laid a heavy ball to Duffy who raced on to it before his low drive whizzed just wide.
With two minutes to play of the 90 Brad Knight almost won it when a corner to the far post found the forward but his headed effort was denied well by Beattie at the back post
Deep into stoppage time though Denbigh could have won it, Sam Duffy linked up brilliantly with Bobby Beaumont before his low cross found Brown in the box, but he couldn’t keep his powerful effort down when faced with just the keeper

POTM: Ben Lockley - A measured and mature performance against a physical side, a classic display
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1876 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.
The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination
The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s.
Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles.
After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years
The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007
In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.
Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back.

Established in 2009 by school friends looking to play competitive football together, Flint Mountain began in the now defunct Clwyd League.
In 2011, the club joined the North East Wales League as founding members after the Clwyd League was restructured and replaced. That season, despite finishing bottom of the table, they defied the odds by clinching the end of season Auxiliary Cup, the club's first piece of silverware.
Over the next few years the club took on a nomadic nature, as they moved between grounds in Flint, Connah’s Quay, Rhydymwyn, Sychdyn and Northop Hall.
In 2019, Flint Mountain were crowned champions of the North East Wales League in an unbeaten league season, whilst also securing three cups in a quadruple winning season. That success, coupled with a move to Pant Newydd in Halkyn, saw the newly renamed Halkyn & Flint Mountain promoted to the Welsh National League Division One, where they finished sixth in a debut season blighted by poor weather and the early curtailment of the season due to the Coronavirus pandemic
In 2021, following another league restructure, the club finished runners-up in the new North East Wales Premier Division and were promoted to the Ardal North West League At the end of the season, the club returned to their home town of Flint after a ten year absence after agreeing to groundshare at the Essity Stadium, home of Flint Town United The club also returned to its roots by changing its name back to Flint Mountain Football Club.
After a fourth placed finish in their debut campaign, this was followed by finishing champions of the Ardal North West League in their second season at Tier 3, as well as winning the North East Wales Football Association (NEWFA) Challenge Cup for the first time The club continued to progress finishing 7 in their debut season in the JD Cymru North In the summer of 2025 the club moved to their new temporary home of Prestatyn Town’s Bastion Gardens. th
