Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s match in the JD Cymru North against Guilsfield.

I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Guilsfield players, coaching team, Committee and supporters after their long journey here this evening

Since our First Team’s last home game here at Central Park, we have hosted three Under-19 Mens Internationals. This was a test event in preparation for the June 2026 Under-19 European Championship tournament, when grounds in North Wales will host games in this prestigious event.

We had an excellent attendance at all three games The first one on a Wednesday evening saw Cymru beat Japan 3-2 with a brilliant last-minute free kick from Cruz Allen of Derby County Then at 7 00pm the following Saturday, Germany faced Japan in an exciting 2-2 draw, with the Germans then winning the penalty shoot-out out

The following Tuesday we invited the pupils of Denbigh High School to the 11 00am kick off between Cymru and Germany It was an early kick off as the teams in the competition, which also included the USA, all had afternoon flights back home The pupils helped add to the atmosphere with over 700 attending. The Germans proved too strong for the Welsh team and ran out 3-0 winners despite a spirited second-half display from the Welsh.

The feedback from the FAW and UEFA as to how we had handled the event was very positive and we are in a good place for the event next summer The players and coaches complimented us on the quality of the pitch, together with our changing room facilities, as did the UEFA officials and delegates

The duggouts were an issue and it did let us down having to cram all the substitutes and coaching staff into our temporary duggouts Thankfully, they were very understanding about this and did use our new container stands as shelter when the need arose The FAW assure us that the new duggouts are on their way by ship from China and will be with us by Christmas Watch this space

The new function room we have built on the first floor of our new building is almost complete. We await the whole building being signed off by Building Regulations before we can formally open the room

In the meantime, we are looking at how we utilise the room for the best going forward, not only for the Club but also for the wider Community. We have had so much interest from bodies looking to hire out the facility, and this is good news.

One matter we have realised is that we desperately need more volunteers to help run the Club and the new facilities we have Our existing band of invaluable helpers are stretched at times, and if you feel you are able to help in any way, please have a word with myself, Iwan or Ollie Or, if you know of anyone, maybe friends or family who are looking to get involved and help the Club thrive, and at the same time enjoy the social aspect of meeting people and being part of a friendly team of volunteers, let us know.

Tonight, it’s another tough game facing Dewi and his lads Having played Guilsfield a few weeks ago they are more than aware of their strengths and threats near goal However, we go into the game after a brilliant result at Airbus, and we’re looking to claim the three points.

Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s game against Guilsfield.

It’s a month since our last home game when we went down 2-1 to league leaders Llandudno in a game where I felt we were unfortunate to not get a least a point. Their winner came from a highly dubious second goal, which looked strongly like hand ball from their scorer, who also appeared to have been in an offside position in the run up to the goal We record each game via our Veo camera and having watched the replay it certainly supports our claim.

We thought we’d equalised in the last minute through Bobby Beaumont but this was disallowed as he was deemed to have pushed his marker as he challenged for the ball in their penalty area

This was a much better performance than the disappointing 3-2 defeat at Holyhead Hotspur a week earlier, when we lacked intensity and desire To go down 2-1 to an undefeated Llandudno team showed improvement throughout the team.

This led us to our best performance of the season a week later at Airbus On a filthy night with torrential rain and strong winds to contend with, alongside a highly rated team that were third in the league, we battled so much better in an enthralling game.

We deservedly took the lead from Alfie Vaughan’s shot after great link-up play with Gwion Dafydd and had been the better team in that opening quarter. Airbus responded well and by half-time had taken a 2-1 lead I said to the lads at half-time to just carry on playing as they were as we were creating chances

Both Gwion and Nathan Brown had chances before we equalised on the hour mark when Gwion looped a header across goal from a long throw from Dan Flanders. Just reward for a strong opening to the second half

With both teams going for the winner, it took a really special moment from Nathan Brown to get our winner in the last minute of the game He struck a free kick from some 35 yards with such venom that it totally deceived our former keeper Keighan Jones in the Airbus goal The footage of the goal is available on our social media pages and has been seen by more than 91,000 viewers already. Some goal.

It’s a pity that we’ve not had a game since then, firstly having a free weekend, and then our game last weekend at Brickfield was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Tonight, we face a strong Guilsfield team who had an impressive 2-1 win over fourth-placed Newtown last Saturday We had a tough game with them in October when they beat us 2-1 after Scott McHarrie had given us an early lead. They got their winner via Sam Flory who misses tonight’s game after getting a red card last weekend

Keiron Roberts is struggling with a knee injury, Luke Johnston is out with a broken bone in his foot and Keelan Williams has returned to training after his planned operation. We have a large squad so this enables others to have valuable game time

Enjoy the game

TOWN STUN THE WINGMMAKERS IN HISTORY MAKING AWAY WIN

Denbigh Town stunned high-flying Airbus last time out, as Nathan Brown’s 40-yard free-kick handed the hosts their first home league defeat in more than two and a half years.

With just a minute to spare Brown’s effort from miles out saw Town turn around a game where they’d surrendered a 1-0 lead for a first away win since August.

Alfie Vaughan’s opener was cancelled out by two first half goals for the Wingmakers before Gwion Dafydd and Brown netted in a dramatic win in a torrential Broughton.

Dewi Llion made one change to the side that lost narrowly to Llandudno seven days previous with Matthew Worrall coming in for Sam Duffy

Town began the brighter of the pair and created their first chance after just three minutes when Worrall was played through before cutting inside and laying the ball to Brown, who had his effort tipped wide by Keighan Jones

Two minutes later a poor back pass was intercepted by Worrall who had sight of goal, but his effort was touched wide again by the keeper

Denbigh may well have been behind but their performance didn’t drop, and Dewi Llion’s side came out for the second period with great intent which had been missing from some of their performances this season

Five minutes after the restart Dafydd had a glimpse when a cross found the 20-year old but his low shot was saved, and two minutes later Ben Lockley swept a ball over the top for Brown who couldn’t direct his effort just left of centre on target

Just before the hour mark the game was level as Denbigh had their deserved equaliser. A long throw from Dan Flanders was cleared back to him before he crossed to the back post where Dafydd’s looping header found the back of the net

Now with momentum Denbigh surged forward, Vaughan had an effort from range fly just over the bar four minutes later whilst Airbus also created chances of their own when Evans had a free-kick saved low by Beattie

The moment of truth came on 89 minutes when Town were awarded a free-kick 40-yards out. Brown stood over it in what looked to be more of a crossing position despite being central Brown had other ideas, he lashed it towards goal kissing the underside of the crossbar in a goal worthy of winning any game.

Denbigh defended well in stoppage time before the whistle went as Airbus were handed their first ever Cymru North home defeat following three seasons in the league.

Subs: Wilmot, H Lockley, Jones, McFee, Barnes, J Duffy, S Duffy

Referee: Mark James

Attendance: 176

POTM: Dan Flanders - Solid at the back, battled hard and provided a superb assist for Town’s second of the contest.

Denbigh Town: Beattie, Beaumont, B Lockley, Flanders, Doforo, McHarrie, Cooke, Brown, Vaughan, Dafydd, Worrall

Denbigh Town Reserves have had a busy few weeks both at home and on the road.

Town have featured three times since our last edition with an incredible 3-2 win at unbeaten Llandudno secured by Seann McFee’s stoppage time goal to take three points. It made it three wins on the trot for Liam Nash’s side.

They followed it up last weekend with a narrow 2-1 loss to Colwyn Bay at Central Park, where despite a leveller from Rhys Lloyd, Town were unable to extend their run.

After a home clash on Tuesday night against Llanrwst, Town face Airbus UK Broughton at the Airfield this evening, getting underway at 8pm.

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1876 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.

The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination

The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s.

Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles.

After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years

The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007

In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.

Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back.

THE OPPOSITION GUILSFIELD

Ground: Clos Mytton

Capacity: 1,000

Nickname: The Guils

Founded: 1957

2024/25: 6th

Manager: Gavin Allen

The present club was formed on August 6th 1957. Mr. Bill Laker and several other men folk of the village got together to form a local side, with seven or eight local lads playing for surrounding villages it was felt that the village needed to form a team of its own.

The club entered the Montgomeryshire Amateur League and matches during this early period were played on local farmer’s fields and during the summer months the committee and players would help the farmer with his harvest to cover the ground rent for the season

During the mid sixties the village doubled in size and the local Community Centre was built with room to accommodate a football pitch, which is where the club plays today Throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s the team was almost all local players of a good standard but honours eluded the club except for the occasional runners-up in cup finals

At the beginning of the 90’s a grandstand was built and the dressing rooms refurbished at a total cost of £34,000 By now the team was starting to show potential and the 1994/1995 season saw the club win the Montgomeryshire Amateur League First Division.

The club took advantage of the FAW pyramid system and were promoted to the Mid Wales League and duly finished in a creditable 4th spot in their first season The club took advantage of the FAW pyramid system and were promoted to the Mid Wales League and duly finished in a creditable 4th spot in their first season

The 2000/2001 Spar Mid Wales League campaign was brought to a premature conclusion following the foot and mouth crisis that broke out in mid February 2001 At the time of abandonment, Guilsfield were well placed in the league and fighting for promotion to the Cymru Alliance As a result of the merger of two existing Cymru Alliance League clubs (Llanfyllin Town and Glantwern) an extra promotion slot was available and Guilsfield’s application to join the league for 2001/2002 was accepted

In their first two seasons they finished in 15th place It was during our second season that Mike Barton was appointed as manager Barton soon got to grips with the standard of football in the league and began to strengthen the side This rebuilding led to Guilsfield finishing in sixth position in 2003/04 The next league campaign saw the side occupying a top half position throughout the campaign finally finishing in seventh spot Guilsfield’s highest ever league position culminated with a 4–0 victory against Tywyn/Bryncrug in the Central Wales Challenge Cup Final The 2006/07 season saw Guilsfield in a mid-table slot but disappointingly unable to retain the Central Wales Cup, losing to Llanfyllin Town in the final

The 50th anniversary season (2007/08) of the club saw Guilsfield led by new manager Graham Evans The players went on a great Welsh Cup run after defeating three Welsh Premier League clubs in Airbus UK, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Caernarfon Town en route to losing in the Quarter Final in front of 500 spectators to Bangor City Guilsfield’s top scorer for the season, Tim Nunnerley was rewarded for a fabulous year by being named the League’s Player of the Year In the 2010/11 season, the club gained their first piece of silverware at second tier level by winning the Cymru Alliance League Cup after a great performance to defeat Porthmadog in the final held at Cefn Druids

During the season. Over the next decade Guilsfield went from strength to strength, not only maintaining their position in the second tier but thriving, finishing within the top eight in each of their last eleven seasons. The club’s record finish came when finishing third in 2014/15 which they replicated in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the pandemic, and doing so once again in their first season back. The Guils finished last season in 6th and are looking for a top half finish for the third successive season.

Denbigh Town and Guilsfield have a storied history, including in recent times Here we look back at some recent home and away clashes.

Town’s mid-Wales form continued in October with defeat despite taking the lead at Clos Mytton.

Scott McHarrie’s strike fired Denbigh in front on 18 minutes, but the lead lasted just 14 minutes when Jake Cook struck a leveller for the home side

Just after the hour mark Sam Flory nudged Guils in front and despite their best efforts Denbigh were unable to get anything from it, with Town’s poor form in mid-Wales continuing

Denbigh Town: Beattie, Flanders, Doforo, Beaumont, Lockley, Cooke, McHarrie, Johnston, S Duffy, Vaughan, Dafydd

Subs: Wilmot, Payne, H.Lockley, S.Jones, Barnes, Clarke, Worrall
