I hope so. After all the material of comedy is really only exciting when it is based on a genuine scenario. In this case the prospect of Christmas with relatives. You once said that you are “fascinated by evil”, that you like to analyse what leads a person to commit a crime. Do you have a little of the Police Inspector about you as a writer and private individual? This must not be taken to extremes, but I am interested in psychological changes in general. I want to be able to understand why people suddenly change their behaviour and not immediately pass judgement on them. This naturally requires a degree of interest and empathy. But it is incredibly exciting and important, too, both for life and for acting and writing. You have acted for many years in the German crime series ‘Tatort’ as well as in successful comedies such as ‘Arme Millionäre’ and ‘Klimawechsel’, and also in the film ‘Bella Vita’. In which genre do you feel most at home? As an actress I do not like to be defined by a single genre. I like everything. And this openness is now paying off in my writing, with my psychological thriller being followed by a dark comedy ‘Tief durchatmen’. When you approach material or a new role – how much of the psychologist in you is brought to bear? When I am playing a character I try to understand them and everything they do. It is a very exciting and wonderful challenge. Must we now say goodbye for ever to ‘Tatort’ Police Inspector Charlotte Sänger? Yes, after eight years of police service I wanted the chance to play other roles again. You regularly spend holidays in Spain with your family... The summer holidays belong exclusively to my family. We look forward to them all year long. You have also filmed in Spain. You played a police officer in ‘Polizeiruf 110: Mordsmäßig Mallorca’ on the Island. What does Mallorca mean to you? I filmed that a very long time ago. But three years ago we rented a finca on the Island – that was wonderful! CMOODY

“Now for the dark comedy“ TV actress Andrea Sawatzki is bringing out her second book for Christmas

sarcastic husband who hides behind his newspaper, a bad-tempered daughter who throws her mother out of her teenage bedroom, and a younger brother who nearly drowns the hamster in the bath. As Gundula Bundschuh is preparing for Christmas Eve and the arrival yet again of her frightfully nice relatives, the Great Dane manages to eat all the festive food. These and other disasters feature

in actress Andrea Sawatzki’s (‘Tatort’ ‘Arme Millionäre’) new comic novel ‘Tief durchatmen, die Familie kommt’ (Take a deep breath, the family are coming). We know Sawatzki from her role in the German crime series ‘Tatort’. DELUXE asked her whether the ‘Police Inspector’ had any influence on the book. Frau Sawatzki, can we expect from your new book the same analytical brilliance that you displayed in your first novel, ‘Ein allzu braves Mädchen’?
