Stress-free to Mallorca Simple, relaxed and friendly – this is Allgäu Airport

llgäu Airport in Memmingen has long played an important part in the lives of both private and business travellers planning journeys to and from south Germany, especially for those who value short distances and efficient processing above all. Its manageable size, attractive connections to both German and other European cities and to sunny climes, its attentive service, and last but not least its very reasonable parking charges make this relative youngster on the airport scene a popular choice. It has existed in its current form for only five years, and yet Allgäu Airport is already a firm fixture in the region – including across the borders into Austria and Switzerland. Its recently introduced flight connections to Eastern Europe have added to its attraction: travellers can now fly to Kiev up to five times a week with Wizz Air. Belgrade, Skopje and Targu Mures in Romania, too, are served by several flights a week from Memmingen. The coveted destination of Mallorca is served all year round by Ryanair, with flights from Memmingen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. From 23rd March to 19th October 2013, Air Berlin will also be flying to the Island on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It is not only those seeking sun and relaxation on holiday who depart from Allgäu Airport for Mallorca. Mallorca residents also

travel the other way for visits home or to take holidays in south Germany and the regions within reach of Memmingen. There are also increasing numbers of business travellers flying in both directions. A hub foR holiDAys AnD business As its managing director Ralf Schmid says, the relatively small size of Allgäu Airport makes it a perfect choice for anyone travelling from Mallorca to south Germany. This is no surprise as numerous highly popular holiday destinations, not least the Allgäu itself, are just a stone’s throw away! The airport’s direct access to the Munich-Lindau (A 96) and Ulm-Füssen (A 7) motorways means that many places can be reached within about an hour’s drive, including the Bavarian capital Munich to the east and Lake Constance to the west, and the neighbouring regions of Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Switzerland and Baden-Württemberg. And anyone who has business in Munich or the economic region in the south-west will be delighted by the speed and ease with which they can reach their final destination. In front of the

terminal building, Allgäu Airport Express buses wait to take passengers on to Munich, Ulm, St. Gallen, Zurich and Kleinwalsertal. Allgäu Airport Express will also organise private transfers in a VIP minibus or limousine for those wanting a more personal service. Passengers looking for a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay need look no further than Memmingen airport. The Airport Hotel BERGER’S Park is only a few minutes walk from the airport terminal. This 3-star Superior Hotel is set in picturesque grounds and boasts spacious, brightly furnished rooms. All rooms have a bathroom with a window. And for those in need of refreshment before their onward journey, BERGER’S Restaurant im Park next to the hotel offers freshly prepared regional cuisine and – in the summer months – traditional Bavarian snacks in their beer garden. The world famous Oktoberfest and major sporting events such as the Four Hills ski jumping tournament in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen make Memmingen a magnet for travellers by air. The same is true for cultural highlights such as the Festival of Nations in nearby Bad Wörishofen, which every autumn presents classical music played by celebrated musicians. Visitors to the Bregenz Festival, with its unique stage on the lake, which this year will see performances of The Magic Flute, also like to travel via Allgäu Airport. In the near future, this active and ambitious airport will be doing even more. It is currently working on a new traffic light-free link from the motorway… AschÜleR/cMooDy
