Professor Michael Popp - In my opinion, the best model for the future of tourism in Mallorca is intelligent growth with an ecological emphasis. I am happy to be on the Island in the winter, too, because of Castell Miquel, my vineyard in Alaró, and because of the increasing number of events we are holding there, in our specially constructed conference buildings, on the fascinating potential of our scientifically researched natural remedies such as Sinupret®. We show the participants the fields of medicinal plants grown in Mallorca for Bionorica, and the technical facilities used to extract their contents. This represents only one part of Bionorica’s worldwide operations, but it serves as an example of how a German company can become involved in the Island. Holding workshops in Mallorca stimulates the economy. This is best done at a time of year when the weather in Germany is depressing, yet the sun in Mallorca lifts the mood. Such an environment is particularly conducive to the development of creative thinking. The Island government is well aware of this and has approved the construction of a conference centre in Palma. My wine team is already looking forward to welcoming these guests too to Castell Miquel.
Meiner Ansicht nach ist intelligentes touristisches Wachstum mit ökologischem Anspruch für Mallorca das beste Zukunftsmodell. Ich bin auch im Winter gerne auf der Insel wegen meines Weinguts Castell Miquel in Alaró und der steigenden Zahl an Veranstaltungen, die wir dort in eigens errichteten Konferenzgebäuden über die faszinierenden Potentiale unserer wissenschaftlich erforschten Naturarzneien wie z.B. Sinupret® abhalten. Wir zeigen den Teilnehmern die Heilpflanzenfelder der Bionorica auf Mallorca sowie die technischen Anlagen zum Lösen der Inhaltsstoffe aus Heilpflanzen. Dies stellt nur einen Teil der weltweit operierenden Bionorica dar, mag aber als Beispiel dafür stehen, wie sich ein deutsches Unternehmen auf der Insel engagieren kann. Workshops auf Mallorca zu veranstalten fördert die Wirtschaft, am besten zu einer Jahreszeit, wo das deutsche Wetter für Depressionen sorgt, die mallorquinische Sonne aber die Stimmung positiv beeinflusst. Kreative Gedanken entwickelt man in diesem Umfeld besonders gut. Das weiß auch die Inselregierung und hat den Bau eines Kongresszentrums in Palma befürwortet. Mein Winzerteam freut sich schon auch diese Gäste auf Castell Miquel begrüßen zu dürfen.

Dr Andreas Leonard - I have been practising as a specialist in internal medicine at the German Medical Centre in Peguera for the past 15 years. Over the time I have got to know the needs of both residents and tourists. What sets Mallorca apart from other holiday destinations? The pleasant climate, personal safety and cleanliness crop up as being of particular importance. Continuity, reliability and quality are expected from local service providers, and the client is willing to pay an appropriate price for this. In the important service sector, there is still a serious absence of training and friendliness. What use is the most beautiful hotel, if the staff are unfriendly? Equally, expanding all-year-round infrastructure and providing appropriate entertainment and cultural activities are becoming of increasing importance. And good medical care, as accessible as possible, is a high priority. All staff in this field should have a good command of the languages spoken: Spanish, English and German. Mallorca has long scored with its wide range of medical and dental services. An area that could still be expanded and improved is the convalescent and rehabilitation sector, and international retirement homes. My tip is to fix what is lacking, and enjoy all that is good!
WIRTSCHAFTSFORUM Etwa 12 Millionen Touristen reisen jährlich nach Mallorca. Wo sehen Sie Wachstumschancen für die Branche?
Seit nunmehr 15 Jahren bin ich als Internist im Deutschen Facharztzentrum Peguera tätig. So lernt man die Bedürfnisse der Menschen hier hautnah kennen. Was hebt Mallorca von anderen Sonnenzielen ab? Immer wird das angenehme Klima, die persönliche Sicherheit und die allgemeine Sauberkeit erwähnt. Ferner wird von den ortsansässigen Dienstleistern Kontinuität, Verlässlichkeit und Qualität erwartet, wofür der Kunde auch gerne einen adäquaten Preis zahlt. Gerade auf dem wichtigen Dienstleistungssektor besteht noch Nachholbedarf an qualifizierter Ausbildung und Freundlichkeit. Was nützt das schönste Hotel, wenn das Personal unfreundlich ist? Ebenso wird der Ausbau einer ganzjährigen Infrastruktur mit passendem kulturellen Angebot immer wichtiger. Natürlich hat eine gute medizinische Versorgung, möglichst wohnortnah, einen sehr hohen Stellenwert. Dabei sollte das gesamte Personal die wichtigen Inselsprachen Spanisch, Englisch und Deutsch gut beherrschen. Seit langem kann die Insel Mallorca mit einem breiten medizinischen und zahnmedizinischen Angebot punkten. Ausbaufähig wäre der Kur- und Rehabilitationssektor sowie internationale Seniorenresidenzen. Mein Tip: Defizite verbessern, das Schöne genießen und bewahren!
