PRESCHOOL

We are a developmental program designed so that children learn to play and play to learn. Through play and problem solving, children learn the basic skills necessary to achieve–socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and creatively. Our well-rounded curriculum includes opportunities in math, science and nature, literacy, language and listening, dramatic play and daily outdoor play.

Levels Of Learning

We welcome two and a half, three and four year old children as they embark on a lifetime of learning through discovery and exploration. Children need to be potty-trained.

Registration

Online and walk-in registration for the 2023-2024 school year began January 17, 2023. The first monthly tuition payment is due at the time of registration. The total amount of the first monthly tuition payment is a non-refundable and non-transferable deposit. The remaining tuition may be paid in full at the time of registration or in eight monthly payments beginning July 1, 2023 through February 1, 2024.

DISCOVERY CLUB - REGISTER IN JANUARY FOR 2023-2024!

Blast into space, dig with dinosaurs, or take a peek inside the human body! Children will take an indepth, interactive and scientific exploration into new and exciting topics. Each afternoon the children will experience art, literature, science and fun as they embark on a journey of discovery without ever leaving school! Discovery Club complements the Deerfield Preschool curriculum. Please send a lunch, an afternoon snack and a water bottle. This program is open to Deerfield Preschool 2023-2024 Pre-K students only. If space remains, we reserve the right to release open spots to Pre-K students from other schools. This program includes the tuition for an 11:15A-12:30P enrichment where the children will eat lunch then participate in a specialized class. Children will be escorted to and from the enrichment by park district staff. Discovery Club will begin the second week of Deerfield Park District Preschool and follow the preschool calendar.

Discovery Club registration date, payment plan, and cancellation policy are the same as preschool.

Adult & Tot Fall Planting

Parents, childcare providers, or grandparents will enjoy experiencing nature and the environment with their children through stories, songs and simple experiments. Class will be held outside at the JPCC Pavilion unless there are storms and then class will be moved indoors.

Kindermusik - Level 2 Wiggle and Grow

Imagine twirling around the room, marching with happiness and singing out with joy to the music! Led by licensed teachers who cherish your child’s blossoming social skills, children practice turn-taking activities and finger games and play simple instruments.

Extend the Day Early Childhood Enrichment

Early childhood programs with the Extend the Day Play logo indicate that children in our Preschool can extend their day of learning. You do not have to be enrolled in Deerfield Park District Preschool to attend these classes. These classes are located in the Early Childhood, Theater and Dance sections of this guide.

Reading Rookies

Give your child the keys to reading success. This enrichment class uses thematic fun, multi-sensory instruction, games, crafts and stories to teach children in their last year of preschool how to build their letter and sound knowledge. Each weekly lesson focuses on 2-3 letters. The lessons will ignite your child’s reading interest, while improving your child’s ability to hear, identify and manipulate individual sounds. By the end of the session, your child will have the building blocks to become a successful reader. Because Reading Rookies is built around multi-sensory lessons, regardless of your child’s learning style, your child will thrive, have fun and learn! Sticky Fingers Cooking Club

Your kids can have a blast every week discovering how easy and fun it is to cook (and gobble-up!) tasty, healthy globally-inspired recipes! Our interactive cooking classes incorporate S.T.E.A.M., culture, language, geography, history and more. Sticky Fingers Cooking offers young chefs the chance to explore exciting tastes (all seasonal and as local as possible!), master culinary skills (that they can put to use in family kitchens!), and nourish their bodies and minds. Our talented and experienced Chef Instructors bring all of the ingredients, district approved equipment and supplies to lead an engaging, fun, and interactive cooking class with your young chefs in training. Our cooking classes are a BLAST for all ages!

S.T.E.A.M. Team

Join the S.T.E.A.M. Team for learning and fun. We will introduce children to the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts and math in a hands-on learning environment. Children will explore, create and experiment with real-life situations through play. There will be a new theme each week that will allow your child to utilize their problem-solving skills to complete exciting challenges. Participation will be a stepping stone toward introducing your child to the S.T.E.A.M. curriculum in elementary school. Children must be entering kindergarten in Fall 2024. All Around the World with Arianna

Travel the world with local children’s book author, Arianna Brooks, while never leaving the comfort of the classroom! Each week we will jump aboard an Imaginary Airplane and fly to a new destination. Fall Harvest Adventure

Young children will benefit from fresh air and exposure to nature as we explore 15 acres of fun! The class will experience various fall activities such as planting bulbs, raking leaves and harvesting vegetables. Learn about the fall harvest and how animals prepare for winter through stories, games and hands-on activities. Children should come dressed for adventures outside. Parents are an integral part of helping their tots develop basic sports movement and motor skills. Motor skill activities focus on hand/eye and hand/foot coordination. Pee Wee Soccer

Preschool Rhythmic Gymnastics

Fall in love with rhythmic gymnastics through creative dance, fun with apparatus, coordination and flexibility exercises that are interwoven with music. Broadway Bound: The Little Mermaid Jr.

In this fabulous performance-based class, young actors will get the opportunity to audition, rehearse, and perform a Broadway Jr musical under the direction of Stefanie Guggenheim. With professional costumes, sets, and sound, performers will feel like stars on Broadway! Auditions for the fall musical, Little Mermaid Jr (rights pending),will be conducted during the second class and performances will be held at Caruso Middle School. Advanced

Beginning Rhythmic Gymnastics

If you like music, dance, tumbling, and creativity, you have to try rhythmic gymnastics. It combines the beauty and artistry of dance with the strength and power of tumbling. Gymnasts perform routines to music using hand apparatus such as ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes and clubs. In the beginner class, girls will learn the basic body positions, elementary apparatus handling and musicality. Gymnasts may wear leotards or basic dance clothes. Hair should be pulled back from the face and neck.

Gametime Flag Football

Players experience daily scrimmages with active instruction and tips from the coaching staff. Players are encouraged to employ skills used in football such as running pass routes, play calling, defensive positioning, the fundamentals of blocking and pass coverage. These skills and others are put to use in a “game time” environment while the players scrimmage each week.

Junior Flag Football

Join in on the fun and start playing the nation’s most loved game! Players are introduced to stance, receiving, rushing, blocking and defense. Each week ends with a scrimmage encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship. Players always get to play either receiver or running back each week. Games focus on fundamentals and field concepts, as well as positions and mechanics. No equipment necessary!

Campers are introduced to the fundamentals of sports including basketball, floor hockey, football, kickball, soccer, t-ball and other sports and group games. Karate

Karate classes help develop confidence, strength and coordination skills with a good mix of strength training, with cardiovascular and flexibility exercises. Adults and children will learn lasting personal safety skills. They also benefit from the mental stimulation of learning the choreographed moves of the kata and the discipline of conforming to the class rules.

Taekwondo benefits people of all ages and physical abilities to improve concentration and self- esteem, achieve lifelong physical fitness and learn self-defense skills. A $50 uniform fee is required at the first class. Belt testing (twice per year) is offered at an additional fee. All colored belt students are required to have complete sparring gear. Soccer Skills Clinic 101

Players are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer tactics such as passing the ball, offensive moves, defensive moves, keeping/controlling the ball and taking the ball away from the opposing team. Players learn to score and prevent goals. Physical endurance and fitness are emphasized while touching the ball. At this age, the focus starts to change from simple games to organized, tactical, competitive games.

Children are introduced to the fundamentals of sports including basketball, floor hockey, football, kickball, soccer, t-ball and other sports and group games. The program provides an opportunity for each child to develop motor skills and nurture his/her growth socially and emotionally through teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Soccer Skills Clinic 201

In the next stage of their progression, players increase their playing stamina and speed in an up-tempo game-like atmosphere. The clinic’s specific technique training involves strength and placement shooting, landing on the shooting foot, precision passing, settling the ball with various body parts and advanced fundamentals and skill maneuvers. Most importantly, players are taught game concepts that will improve their decision-making and overall game.

Skate Boarding Lessons

Private skateboarding lessons at the new Deerfield Park District skatepark are available from the Asylum Skatepark. The instructors are ISCPD/SKATZ certified and teach high-quality lessons in a sustained and progressive way. This is also a great leadership development program where children learn the fundamentals and safety of skateboarding. Private lessons are available for beginners, intermediate or advanced level skateboarders. 48 hours advance notice required. Cancellation PolicyIf you cancel within 24 hours of your lesson time, you forfeit your fee.

Lacrosse Camps with DYLC

Calling all future lacrosse players! This summer camp is an amazing opportunity for boys and girls to pick up the sport, have a blast, and develop their skills while participating in games and competing in drills. Athletes will focus on catching, passing, and shooting by playing a number of different positions on both offense and defense. This is a wonderful chance for kids to learn the mechanics and fundamentals in an exciting, high-energy, fun environment.

Players begin to develop more advanced skills such as various guard/ post techniques, setting screens, moving without the ball, and offensive spacing. Defensive instruction includes man-to-man, denying the ball, help-line and boxing out. Players spend time developing their shot using proper mechanics to be effective further from the basket. Scrimmages are played every week.

Learn Lacrosse with DYLC

Learn to play one of the fastest-growing sports with the Deerfield Youth Lacrosse Club. Our coaches will teach basic fundamentals, field concepts, mechanics, as well as different positions in a fun, high-energy setting. Players will enjoy instructional drills and games designed to easily pick up lacrosse and improve physical fitness: Classes are intended for beginners. Lacrosse sticks are required.
