With 2024 wrapping up, I just want to take a moment to say thank you for welcoming me to team DDG this past year. I understand that a lot of this may have been new for folks, but I appreciate everyone’s response and participation to safety related activities. I am happy to say that we accomplished a lot of our goals that were set for 2024 and I believe we have set a good foundation to continue to improve in the future.

What was Accomplished?

In an effort to update our current Safety Manual to coincide with work activities, we have drafted 14 new safety policies. Our focus in 2025 will be to formally review these in preparations of releasing a new Safety Manual.

Each employee was placed in a Training Tier that best aligns with their job description and responsibilities. This was accomplished via a few different avenues:

· Multiple in-person safety training sessions at each DDG office (Tier 1 & 2)

· Monthly safety training sessions via TEAMS (Tier 2)

· Bi-weekly safety training sessions via TEAMS (Tier 3)

· Site specific safety training via Alliance Safety Council or applicable safety council (Mostly Tier 3)

In conjunction with P+D, I travelled to different offices to conduct New Hire Safety Orientation with new hires on their first day with DDG. This allowed us to communicate the importance of safety early on in an employee’s tenure with DDG.

In conjunction with the applicable service line, we developed Project Specific Safety Plans (PSSP) for proposals and/or awarded projects.

Multiple field visits were conducted to learn and understand the work that takes place in the field. This is being used when drafting our Safety Policies.

Lastly, I am looking forward to what 2025 brings and building upon all of the accomplishments that were made in 2024!

How Adoption has Shaped Shaun Savoie’s Family

November marked National Adoption Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of adoption. Shaun shared his heartfelt story, explaining how adoption has provided so much love and resilience in his family.

Shaun’s mother-in-law had always dreamed of fostering children, but her battle with breast cancer cut that dream short. To honor her memory, Shaun and his wife Jen decided to explore fostering, with the hope of adopting. With their daughter’s blessing, they embarked on this journey, attending classes to prepare for fostering and potential adoption

In 2018, their family grew when five-year-old Triston joined them as a foster child. Within a year, Triston became a permanent member of their family. Soon after, eleven-year-old JaCory arrived as an emergency placement, expected to stay for just a week. However, he found a sense of belonging with the Savoie family and chose to stay. By 2022, JaCory was officially adopted, completing the family puzzle. Today, the Savoies have four children: Hailey (26), JaCory (17), Emma (16), and Triston (11).

Shaun acknowledges that adoption comes with its challenges “Adoption doesn’t end once papers are signed Building trust, navigating identity, and addressing questions about origins and belonging is an ongoing process. Even in the best circumstances, adoption often stems from a loss. Children may have experienced trauma, neglect, or grief, and they may need additional emotional or psychological support to process these experiences. While it’s natural to want to provide a loving home, adoption should be rooted in the desire to grow as a family and meet the needs of the child, not in the mindset of rescuing or saving them.”

For Shaun, adoption has been a blessing, allowing him to create unique and impactful bonds with his children. The love and growth he has experienced as a father through adoption have been life-changing.

Adoption creates opportunities for meaningful connections, healing, and growth for everyone involved At its heart, adoption is about love, belonging, and giving children the chance to thrive in a stable, nurturing environment.
