2. ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTS
Inordertoenrollinschool,astudentmusthaveproofofimmunizationandevidenceofa physicalexaminationwithinthepastyear.Theimmunizationlawspecifiesthefollowing:
DTP-DTaP-DT-DTP/hib-Td 4doses,oneofwhichwasgivenonorafterthefourthbirthday. Ifagesevenorolderthreedosesarerequired.

KindergartenstudentsmustbefiveyearsoldbyAugust15ofthisyearinordertoenroll. Beforeachildcanenrollinfirstgrade,theymusthavesatisfactorilycompletedkindergarten.
3. SCHOOLNURSE-MEDICATIONS
Wehaveafulltimeschoolnurse,Ms.SheliaBrown. Thenurseisheretoattendtomedical emergenciesthathappenduringtheschoolday,sicknessesthatmayoccurduringtheday,andto childrenwhohavedocumentedmedicalconditions.Withover700students,studentscannotgo tothenurseatwillorfornurturinguponrequest. Whenastudentrequeststoseethenurse,the teacherwillusehis/herbestjudgmenttodetermineiftherequestisvalid.
Theparentorguardianisresponsibleforinformingthedesignatedofficialofanychangeinthe student’shealthorchangeinmedication.
Ifunderexceptionalcircumstancesachildisrequiredtotakenon-prescriptionorprescription medicationduringschoolhoursandtheparentcannotbeatschooltoadministerthemedication, onlytheprincipal,theprincipal’sdesignee,ortheschoolnursewillassistinself-administration ofthemedication.
MedicationDrop-offProcedure:
Themedicationmustbedeliveredtotheschoolornurse’sofficeinpersonbytheparentor guardianofthestudent.
Writteninstructionssignedbytheparentwillberequiredandwillinclude:
1. Child’sName;
2. Nameofmedication;
3. Nameofphysician;
4. Timetobeself-administered;
5. Dosageanddirectionsforself-administration;
6. Possiblesideeffects,ifknown;and
7. Terminationdateforself-administrationofthemedication.
Personneltrainedbyaregisterednursemayadministerglucagoninemergencysituationstoa studentbasedonthatstudent’sIndividualHealthPlan(IHP).
MedicationPick-upProcedure:
Attheendoftheschoolyearorwhenastudentmovesoutoftheschoolsystemanyunused medicationsareleftattheschool,willbedisposedoffollowingdistrictpolicyafteratwoweek periodandafterattemptstocontacttheparentorguardian.
CAREOFSICKORINJUREDPUPILS
Emergencycardswillbecompletedatthebeginningofschool,orwhenapupilenrolls, containingthefollowinginformation:
● Name,addressofparentsorguardianandtelephonenumberstheycanbereached.
● Namesofrelativesorfriendswhocouldbecontactedifparentorguardiancannotbe reached.
● Familyphysician.
● Nameofhospitaldesiredifinjuryorillnessisserious.
Whenillnessoccurs,parentswillbenotifiedandstudentswillbemadeascomfortableas possibleuntilsomeonecomesforthechild.
Thenursewillnotcallaparentforeverystudentcomplaint.Ifthenursedoesnotthink,inher professionalopinion,thecomplaintwarrantsaphonecall,thechild’scomplaintwillbenotedand he/shewillbesentbacktoclass.
WHENANINJURYOCCURS
A. Firstaidwillbeadministered,ifneeded.
B. Minorinjurieswillbetreatedandstudentswillremaininschoolunderobservation. If,inthe judgmentofschoolofficial,medicaltreatmentorconsultationisadvisable,parents, aguardianorotherdesignatedpersonwillbenotified.
C. SERIOUSINJURIES
Anambulancewillbecalledtotransportthestudenttothehospitallistedontheemergency card. Atthesametimeparentsorguardianswillbenotified. Ifparentsorguardiancannotbe locatedimmediately,andthefamilyphysicianisnotavailable,theemergencyroomattendants inthehospitalwillcallanavailablephysician.
Teacher and the principal will gather all information relative to accident or injury indicating time, place, witness, etc. and complete an accident report. This report will be sent to the office of the Director of Schools.
4. OPENINGANDCLOSINGOFSCHOOLDAY
MorningDropOff
● Thegymdoorswillbeopenat7:00a.m.eachdayforallschoolchildren.Anychildwho arrivesbefore7:00a.m.willhavetoenrollindaycare.
● Allstudentswhoarrivebefore7:40anddonotrideabusshouldentertheschool buildingthroughthedoubledoorsleadingtothegymnasium. Allotherdoorswill belockeduntil7:40. Teacherswillbeoutsidestartingat7:20toensurestudentsafety. Teacherswillnotopencardoors,studentsshouldbeabletodothisthemselves.
● At7:40thefrontdoorswillbeunlockedandallcarriderswillenterthroughthefront doors. Pleasedonotparkinfrontandwaitfor7:40. Therearenotenoughplaces forourteacherstoparkandarriveattheirdoorbefore7:40,ifthespacesaretaken withpeoplewaitingtodropoffstudents. Ifyouarriveearlyanddonotwantto leaveyourchild,pleasewaitinthelowerparkinglotuntil7:40.
● Weencouragestudentstobecomeindependentandwalktotheirclassroomalone. Kindergartenstudentsmayneedassistanceforthefirstfewdays.Adultsarestationed throughoutthebuildingtomonitorstudentsandareavailabletohelpstudentsthatneedit.
● Parentswillbeallowedtowalkstudentstotheirclassthefirsttwo(2)daysofschool.
AfternoonPick-up
● Youwillbeaskedbytheteachertoprovidethisinformationonhowyourchildistogo homeeachdaywhenyourchildentersschool.
● Anychangeintheregularroutine(suchasbeingpickedupearly,orbyadifferentperson, orridingadifferentbus,etc.)requiresanotefromtheparentoraphonecalltothefront officefromaparentby2:30.Teacherswillnotchangeachild’swayofgoinghomebased onatextmessage,dojomessage,orremindmessage.Theywillpromptyoutocallthe
school.Teacherswillalsonotchangethewayachildgoeshomebasedonwhatthechild says.
● However,pleasedonotcalldaily.
● Ifwedonothaveanoteorphonecall,wewillsendchildrenhometheregularway. CarRiders:
● Carridersaredismissedeachdayat3:00p.m.Pleasedonotlineupbefore2:00p.m.so emergencyvehiclescangettotheschool,ifthereisaneed.
● Carriderswillgotothegymandwaituntiltheirnameiscalled. Theywillthengotothe frontofthebuildingtomeettheirridesattheannouncedcolor.
● Whenpickingupyourchild,pleasegetinthelineandstayinyourcar

● Ourdrivewayandparkingareaswerenotdesignedforfoottraffic.Nochildwillbe releasedtoaparentwhohasbeenparkedintheupperparkinglot.
● Ifachild'sridedoesnotarriveuntilafter3:20*p.m.,thechildwillwaitinthegym. Ifa studentisleftlaterthan3:20p.mhe/shewillbesenttodaycareandtheparentsare responsibleforthecost.
*Thefirstfewdaysandthefirstfewdaysafterallkindergartenersarrive(August13th),itmay takelongerthanuntil3:20. However,whentheproceduresmoothesout,3:20islateenoughfor theretobenoline. Studentsremainingwillgotodaycare.
Walkers:
● Ifyourchildisa“walker”youmustparkinthelotatthebaseballfieldatthebottomof thehillandwalkuptomeetyourchild.
● Youmusthaveyouridentifyingnamestripandanadultwilltakedownthenameofyour child. Yourchildwillbedismissedtoyou. Ifyoudonothavethenametag,youmustgo totheofficetogetanotetogetyourchildandaphotoIDwillberequired.
● Ifyoudonotcometomeetyourchildonfootby3:10,yourchildwillgointothegym withothercarridersandtheaboveprocedurewillbefollowed.
The building will be closed at 4:00 each day after the late bus riders leave except for those students enrolled in the childcare program or involved in other school activities.
BusRiders:
● TherewillbenovisitorsonDCschoolbusesduringthefirstthree(3)weeksofschool. Meaningastudentcanonlyridetheroutethattakesthemhome-noridinghomewith friends.
● Ifyouarerequestingyourchildtorideadifferentrouteyoumustcalltheschool,provide theaddresstheywillbegettingoffat,acontactnumberfortheadultatthataddress,and thebusnumberthatrunsthatroute.
● Thetransportationdepartmentcanbereachedat615-740-5970.
5. ATTENDANCE
Recognizingthatabsenteeismisahindrancetoefficienteducationofstudentsandthat punctualityandregularityofattendanceaffectstheprogressofastudentatschool,theDickson CountyBoardofEducationhasanestablishedattendancepolicythatisalsoavailableinits entiretyontheDistrictwebsite. Theparent/guardianorotherpersonhavingchargeandcontrol ofachildisheldresponsibleforthechild'sregularschoolattendance.
Inordertomeettherequirementsforsatisfactoryattendance,astudentintheDicksonCounty SchoolSystemshallhaveanapprovedrecordofattendance. Anapprovedrecordofattendance isconsideredtobeninetypercent(90%)ineachclass. Absencesinexcessofeighteen(18)days eachyearisconsideredtobechronicabsenteeism.
ABSENT: Meansastudentnotbeinginattendanceinregularlyscheduledclassesattheschool he/sheattends. Approvedschoolactivitiesdonotcountasanabsence.
PRESENT: Meansastudentbeinginattendanceinregularlyscheduledclassesattheschool he/sheattends.
EARLYDISMISSAL: Meansastudentleavingschoolearlybefore3:00.
TARDY: Arrivingatclassafter8:00a.m.
● Astudentmayuse5parentnotespersemester.
● Allabsencesover8persemesterrequireadoctor’snote,evenifthoseabsencesare excused.
● Onceastudentisplacedonarequireddoctor’snotethatrequirementremainsfor theschoolyear.
EXCUSEDABSENCES: Requirewrittendocumentationofabsence.
l.Thestudent'spersonalillnessorhospitalization.Iftheillnessorthehospitalizationisto exceedten(10)days,theparent/guardianshouldapplyforhomeboundinstruction.
2. Anillnessorincapacitatingconditionofafamilymemberwhichrequiresthetemporaryhelp ofastudent. (Aphysician'sstatementmayberequired.)
3. Adeathintheimmediatefamily(familyincludesparents,step-parents,guardian, grandparents,brother,sister,step-brother/sister,auntanduncle)
4. Recognizedreligiousholidays/events. Parentsorguardiansarerequestedtoinformtheschool principalpriortothestudentbeingabsentfromschoolforreligiousholidays/events.
5. Requiredcourtappearance. Astudentmaybeexcusedfromschoolattendanceforrequired courtappearance.(Verificationfromappropriateauthoritiesmustbeprovided.)
6. Approvedschool-relatedactivities. Studentsareexcusedfromschoolforapprovedschoolrelatedactivities.
7. Cultural/educationalactivities. Studentsmaybeexcusedfromschooltoparticipatein organizedculturalandeducationalactivities. Parents/guardianmustcontacttheprincipal priortothestudentbeingabsentforsuchanactivity
8. Otheremergencyextenuatingcircumstancesbeyondthecontrolofthestudent. (Mustbe approvedbyschoolpersonnel.)
Toreceiveanexcusedabsence,youmustsendanotetotheofficewhenyourchildreturnsto school.
Ifwedonotreceiveanotefromyou,yourchildwillbegivenapink“NoteNeeded”slip. You maywriteyournoteontheslipandreturnthispinksliptoschool.
Itisthestudent'sresponsibility,nottheteacher's,togetmake-upworkinallsubjectmatter coveredduringhis/herabsence.Pleasecalltheschoolsotheteachercanhavetheworktogether beforeyoucometopickitup. Iftheyareonlyabsentoneday,workmaybeobtainedthenext dayandturnedinthedayafter.
UNEXCUSEDABSENCES:
anyabsencethatdoesnothavetheproperdocumentation.
Astudentisconsideredchronicallyabsentiftheymissmorethan10%ofthedaysofschool regardlessofexcusedorunexcused.
REPORTINGPROCEDUREFORUNEXCUSEDABSENCES
1. Ifand/orwhenastudenthashis/third(3)unexcusedabsence,aletterwillbesenttothe parentsorguardianbytheschoolinwhichthatstudentisenrolled.
2. If astudenthasafifth(5)unexcusedabsence,thatstudent'snameandthefactsofsuch unlawfulabsencecanbereportedtothejuvenileauthoritiesandanotherletterissent homenotifyingtheparent.
● Oncea(5)dayletterhasbeenreceivedbytheparentyouhave7-10daysto providedocumentationforanyoftheundocumentedabsences.Ifthoseabsences arenotdocumentedatthattimearepresentativefromJuvenileCourtwillbein contacttosetadateforaTier1meeting.
Students with chronic absences will be dealt with individually
6.TARDINESS
Studentsareexpectedtobeintheirclassroomandreadytobegintheday'sactivitiesby8:00a.m. Parentswouldbehelpingchildrendevelopgoodhabitsiftheywouldhelptheirchildrenarriveon time.
Ifastudentreportstoclassafterthe8:00bell,theywillcometothemainofficetogetatardy slip.

Weunderstandthatthedesignofourdrivecreatesabackupattimes,especiallyonrainydays, butsinceweareallawareofthisproblem,plansmustbemadetoaccountforpossibletraffic tie-upsasschoolbeginsat8:00.Rememberthatourdoorsopenat7:00forstudentdropoff.
7. WITHDRAWINGFROMSCHOOL
Anystudentwithdrawingfromschoolmustbeclearedthroughtheoffice. All obligationsmustbeclearedbeforeatranscriptofhisrecordwillbeforwardedtothenew school.
Permanentrecordsandtranscriptstravelfromschooltoschool. Wedonotrelinquishoriginal recordstoparents,butwillbegladtomakecopiesforyouwhennecessary.
8. SCHOOLSUPPLIES
● Schoolsupplylistsaresenthomewiththestudentsatthebeginningoftheyearandwe alsopostthemonourwebsite.
● Suggestedlargeramountsofsuppliesarelistedastheyareusedallyear Wesuggest thesequantitiesastheyarecheaperatthistime.
● Pleasebeawareyourchildmayneedtoreplenishsomesuppliesduringtheyear.
● Wealsomakesuggestionsregardingbrandnameswhenwehavefoundthespecificbrand nameisconsiderablybetterinquality.

9. DRESSANDGROOMING
SafetyisaprimaryconcernforallstudentsinDicksonCounty. Itisourbeliefthatourdress shouldreflectone’sselfdignityandshouldnotbeadisturbinginfluenceoneithertheweareror observer.
Students’dressshouldbeappropriate,clean,andneat. Properdressandpersonalhygieneare essentialelementsforappropriatepersonalinteractionineverydaylife.

● Bikingshorts,spandexpantsand fishnetclothingarenotacceptableattireforschool.
● Nopajamapantswillbeallowed.*
● Leggingsareallowedaslongassomethingiswornoverthem.Itmustbenoshorterthan thefingerlengthwhenhandsareheldbytheside.
● DroopyorsaggingpantsareUNACCEPTABLE. Atnotimeisitappropriateforany underweartobeshowingoneithermaleorfemalestudents.
● Therearetobenoholesinpantsabovetheknee.Holesinjeansshouldnotbeexcessivein size.

● “Heelies”arealsonotallowed.
● Flipflopsarediscouragedasthechildrenstepontheirbacksinline,theytriponthestairs andgetmulchundertheirfeetontheplayground.
● Houseshoesarenottobeworn.
● Yourchildisrequiredtohaveappropriateshoeswhentheyarescheduledtohavephysical educationclasses.
Ifinappropriateclothingiswornorifclothingissoiledduringtheday,suitableclothingmay beborrowedfromtheclothesclosetwheneverpossible.
Parentswillbeexpectedtoassisttheschoolindealingwithanyinfractionsoftheschool DressCode. Toalleviatetheseproblems,facultymembersshallreferstudentstotheoffice fordisciplinaryactions.
DisciplinaryActionsforDressCodeViolations:
1st violationofdresscode:Warningfromteacheroradministrator,incidentdocumentedand studentisprovidedwithappropriateclothesfromtheclothingcloset.
Furtherviolationofdresscode:Incidentdocumentedandparentisaskedtobringappropriate clothestoschool.
10. RECESS/PLAYGROUNDRULES
Recessisanimportantpartoftheschooldayforthesocialandphysicalgrowthandwellbeingof thestudents. Wewantallchildrentogettohavefreeplayeachdayanda25minuterecess periodisincludedineachteacher’sschedule.
Itmaybenecessary,however,tohaveastudentwalkinsteadoffreeplayasaconsequencefor behavior.
Intheeventofastudentbeingbehindinhis/herwork,recesstimemaybeusedtomakeup missedworkoratest.
Thefollowingruleswillbeobservedwhenontheplayground.
l. Usetheequipmentlikeitwasdesignedtobeused. Goupthestairsanddowntheslides. Go downslidesonbottomsonly Gothroughthetunnel,nothideinit.
2. Noclimbingorsittingontopofanyplaygroundequipment.
3. Nothrowingwoodchipsorotherinappropriateitemsontheplayground.
4 Nojumpingofftheplaygroundequipment.
5. Thestudentsshouldnotmarkonthecoveredsidewalks,building,etc. Usechalkonthe blacktopareaonlysothatitwillbewashedawaybyrain.
11. CHEWINGGUMANDCANDY
Studentsarenottochewgumorhavehardcandyduringtheschoolday. Thishelpsuskeepour desks,chairsandfloorscleaner Itwillalsopreventastudentfromgettingchokedaseasily Candyorotherfooditemsarenottobeeatenduringtheschooldayotherthanatappropriate times. Pleasedonotsendhardcandyorgumtoyourchild’sclass.
Studentsareprohibitedfromsellinganyitemstootherstudentsasafundraisingactivityfor anothergroupotherthanourschool.
12.DISCIPLINE

Ourtwoschoolrulesare:

Classroomrulesandproceduresaresenthomebytheteacher Ifastudentrefusestocomplywiththeschoolandclassrules,theteacherwilltryvarious interventions.
Ifastudentcontinuestoignoretheschoolandclassrules,theywillbesenttotheofficefor disciplinaryaction. Thiswillalwaysincludeadiscussionaboutwhatistheappropriatebehavior, whyhe/sheshouldcomplywiththerulesandotherchoicesthatcouldhavebeenmadebythe studentwiththepossibilityofthefollowingconsequences.
Centennial Elementary will follow the Elementary Division Discipline Matrix that is included in the back of this handbook.
Aslipwillbesenthomewithyourchildforyoutosign. Thiswillbehowwekeepyouinformed ofthebehavioryourchildhasexhibitedandtheconsequencesthataddressedthatbehavior If thein-schoolsuspensionslipisnotsignedandreturnedthefollowingday,thestudentwill returntoin-schoolsuspensionforrecess.

13.TOYS,PETS,EXTRAMONEY,CD’sANDDVD’s,PHONESandELECTRONIC
ITEMS
● Toysincludingballs,pets,extramoney,tradingcards,cards,magazines,electronic devices,DVDs,andCDsshouldnotbebroughttoschoolunlessspecificallyrequested bytheteacher.
● Wewillnotberesponsibleforlostorstolenelectronicsortoys. Studentsareresponsible foranypersonalitemsbroughttoschool.
● Phonesarediscouraged,however,iftheyarebroughttoschooltouseaftertheschool day,theyshouldremaininthebackpackandallsoundsturnedoff.Studentsarenot allowedtocallortextduringtheschoolday.
If a student is caught with a toy, phone, or electronic device after a warning that item will be collected and the parent will be notified they must come to the school to pick up the device.
14. DAMAGETOPROPERTY
Damagingproperty(inourbuilding,onschoolgrounds,ortheschoolbus)inanywaywillbe metwithsuitablepunishment,andthestudentwillbeexpectedtoreimbursetheschoolfor whateverdamagewasdone.

15. LUNCHPERIOD
Eachclasswillbescheduledforathirtyminutelunchperiod.Theclasseswillgotolunchinan orderlyfashionatadesignatedtime. Studentswillbeexpectedtocompletetheirmealinthe allottedtimeandwillnotbeallowedtotakefoodoutofthecafeteria.

16. COMMUNICABLEDISEASES
Itshallbethedutyoftheschoolauthoritiestoexcludeanychildwhoisinfectedwithor suspectedofhavingthefollowingdiseases:measles,rubella,mumps,infectioushepatitis, chickenpox,pediculosis(headlice),scabiesandotherillnessesdesignatedbythelocalhealth officerasrequiringexclusion.
Ifoneoftheseillnessesorconditionsissuspected,theteacherorprincipalshouldreferthechild totheschoolhealthnurse,ifavailable. Ifthereisnoschoolhealthnurse,thechildshouldbesent homewiththerecommendationthatthechild'sphysicianbecontactedfordiagnosisand treatment. Thechildshallbeexcludedfromschooluntilschoolpersonnelhavereceived satisfactoryevidencethechildhasbeentreated.
Itshallbetheresponsibilityoftheprincipalorschoolnursetonotifytheparentsintheeventa childhaspediculosis(headlice). Aletterwillbesenthomewiththechildexplainingthe condition,requirementsforreadmission,anddeadlinesforsatisfactorycompletionoftreatment. Inordertoreturntoschoolastudentmustbeexaminedbyaschoolhealthofficialandfoundto beheadliceandnitfree.
AstudentwillbeexpectedtohavemetallBoardrequirementsfortreatmentandbebackin schoolnolaterthanoneschooldayfollowingexclusionforheadlice. Alldaysinexcessofthe allowableperiodwillbemarkedasunexcusedandreferredtotheattendancedirectoratthe propertime.
17. PROVISIONOFTEXTBOOKSANDCHROMEBOOKS
TheTextbookAgreementslipaswellastheChromebookpermissionslipsareallcompleted throughouronlinestudentportalSkyward.
ThereisaONETIME$40feetoenrollinthetechnologyprotectionplanwhichcoversanydamage tothedevicewhilecheckedouttoyourstudent.Thisfeecanbepaidonlineorthroughacheckto theschool.
Studentswillbefinanciallyresponsibleforanydamageoccurringtotheirassignedtextbook, chromebook,orselectedlibrarymaterials.
18. REPORTINGOFPUPILPROGRESS
Eachstudentwillreceiveareportcardfourtimesayear Reportcardswillbesenthomeafterthe endofeachnineweeks. Parentsshouldtaketimetogoovereachareaofthecardandtogivepraise andencouragementtothechild. Thecardshouldbesignedandreturnedtoschoolthefollowing day.
Sometypeofprogressreport(paperstobesigned)willbesenttoparentsweeklyanda mid-quarterlyreportwillbesenthomequarterly. Thesewillneedtobereviewed,signedand returnedthenextschoolday.
Promotionorretentionofastudentisadecisionwhichultimatelyhastobemadeeachyear. The personwhoismostabletomakethisdecisionistheclassroomteacher Therefore,inaccordance withthepolicyoftheDicksonCountyBoardofEducation,statingthePrincipalultimatelydecides, CentennialElementaryinveststheclassroomteacher(‘s)opinionwhendecidingwhetherornota studentistobepromoted. Eachstudentmustmeetorexceedtheminimumcompetenciesapproved bytheBoardforthatgradeorsubject.

21. PHYSICALEDUCATION
AllstudentsareexpectedtotakeP.E.onaregularbasis. AnystudentwhocannottakeP.E. becauseofmedicalreasonsshouldmakecertaintheirteacherandtheP.E.teachersareawareof thisfact. Adoctor'sexcusemustbeprovidedifastudentisunabletoparticipateonaregular basis.
22. CUSTODYRESTRICTIONS
Theschoolisinterestedinthewelfareofeverychildandwillseektoprotectthatwelfareinany waypossible.
Iftherearecustodyrestrictions,itistheresponsibilityoftheparenttoseethattheschoolhasa copyofthecourtorderonfile. Theschoolmusthavethecourtorderonfileifschool personnelaretoabidebyitsrestrictions.
WhenyoucompletetheenrollmentcardandonlineSkywardregistration,pleaselistthepeople thatyougiveyourpermissiontopick-upyourchildfromschoolandindicateifthereareany custodyrestrictions.

25. TITLEIandSPECIALEDUCATION
TitleIisafederallyfundededucationprogramdesignedtoprovideadditionalresourcesfor studentswhomayhavetroublemeetinghighacademicstandardsinreadingand/ormath. Each yearacommitteemadeupofCentennialteachers,administrators,andparentsmeettodecide howbesttousetheTitle1resourcesavailabletotheschool. TitleIfundsareusedatCentennial toprovidetrainedteachersandassistantsforone-on-oneandsmallgroupassistancesothatall studentscanbesuccessful.
Specialeducationprovidesremedialandenrichmenthelpforchildrenwhohavebeenreferred, testedandcertifiedasdisabledinanareawhichqualifiesthemfortheprogram. Childrenmay receivehelpinmanyareas: reading,math,spelling,visualandauditoryperception,etc. The specialeducationteacherdesignsandimplementsanIndividualEducationalPlanforeach identifiedchild.
Bothspecialprogramsincludeshort-termandlong-termgoalsandstressindividualized instruction. Thegoalofbothprogramsisthesame: tohelpchildrenfunctionmore independentlyandsuccessfullyinaregularclassroomsetting. Cooperationandcommunication areessentialbetweentheclassroomteacherandthespecialeducationteacherorinterventionist. Childrenintheseprogramsshallnotbepenalizedbecausetheydonothaveasmuchtimeinthe classroomasotherstudents. Theyarenotrequiredtofinishassignmentsbeforetheyleavefor theirspecialclassortoaccomplishanymorethantheirtimeandabilitywillallowintheregular classroom. Childrenshallnotbedisciplinedbywithholdingtheirremedialorresourcetime. Specialeducationteacheralongwiththeregulareducationteacherwilldeterminegradesfor studentswithanIEP.
TheTitleIstaffmembersdonotgivegrades.
RTI–ResponsetoInterventionisaprogrammandatedbythestatewhereallstudentsaretoget extrahelp,whenneeded. WeaddressthismandatethroughaPowerLearningBlock(PLB). For 45or60minutesdailystudentsaregroupedaccordingtoneedforinstruction. Atthistime, studentsmayhavearegulareducationteacher,TitleIteacher,specialeducationteacherora teacherassistant. Weutilizeallavailablehelpinordertoformsmallergroupsforintensive, specificinstruction.
26. ASSIGNMENTTOSCHOOLS
Students,includingkindergarten,arerequiredtoregisterandattendtheschooltowhichtheyare assignedbyvirtueoftheirresidence(in-zoneschool)unlesstheparentsofthestudentshave madeproperapplicationandthestudentshavebeenapprovedtoattendanout-of-zoneschool whichisaschoolotherthantheirin-zoneschool.
Thispolicyspecifiestheproceduretobefollowedintheeventparentsdesiretoenrolltheirchild orchildrentoattendanout-of-zoneschool.
IfthestudentispresentlyattendingschoolinDicksonCountyorifthechildisstartingschool andtheparentsliveinDicksonCounty,anapplicationmustbemadetotheprincipalofthe desiredout-of-zoneschool.
Ifthestudentisapprovedforattendanceattheout-of-zoneschool,itshallbetheresponsibilityof theparenttoprovidetransportationforthestudenttoandfromschool. Anystudentwhois directedbyM-Teamorbyotherdirectivetoattendanout-of-zoneschoolshallbeprovided transportationbytheschoolsystem.
Inorderforout-of-zoneattendancetobeapproved,spacemustbeavailableattheout-of-zone school. Forthispurposeaclassisconsideredfilledandspacenotavailablewhenenrollment reachesthelegallimitwithoutwaiver. Further,spaceisnotavailableforout-of-zonestudentsin anyschoolwhereitisnecessarythataroomorroomsnotintendedforclassroomusebeusedas aclassroom.
Allelectiveenrollmentsshallbeapprovedforone(1)schoolyearonlyandmustbereconsidered eachsucceedingyear. Theparent’swillingnesstocooperateandthechild’sdisciplineand attendance/tardyrecordswillalsobeconsideredwhenastudentisbeingreconsideredforthe followingyear.
Theparentofastudentapprovedforout-of-zoneattendanceshallbegivenacopyofthispolicy atthetimeout-of-zoneattendanceisapprovedandshallberequiredtoacknowledgeitsreceipt andagreetocomplywithitfully
Transfersduringtheschoolyearshallbelimitedtocasesinwhichstudentschangeresidenceor ifaschoolemployeeistransferred.
27. DAYCARE
DaycareisavailabletostudentsatCentennialElementarySchool. Theprogramopensat6:00 a.m.,andclosesat6:00p.m. Daycareisavailableforonlyschoolagechildrenanditisavailable duringthesummersandothervacationdays. 28. VISITORPASS
Alloutsideschooldoorsarelockedfrom8:00till3:00eachschoolday. Wehavethispolicy forthesafetyofallourchildrenandtocomplywithstatelaw
