8-10 chicken legs 1/4 t. dried dill DIP 1/2 t. garlic powder 1/2 c. mayonnaise 1/2 t. onion powder 3 T. lemon juice 1/2 t. pepper Spoon dip on chicken pieces then roll in bread crumbs. Fry in hot oil in covered fry pan for 1 hour. 375º the first 15 minutes then 325º the last 45 minutes.

HAMBURGER AND POTATO CASSEROLE 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef 4 oz. (1 c.) finely shredded 1 box Au Gratin Potatoes Mozzarella cheese 1 (8 oz.) can pizza sauce 1/4 c. chopped green onions, 2 c. water optional 1 c. milk 1 jar sliced mushrooms, drained Heat oven to 400ºF. Brown ground beef until thoroughly cooked. Meanwhile, in ungreased 12x8 in. (2 qt.) glass baking dish, combine potatoes and contents of sauce packet from potatoes. In saucepan, combine pizza sauce and water. Bring to a boil. Pour over potato mixture; mix well. Add milk, mushrooms and beef mixture; mix well. Bake at 400ºF for 30 minutes. Remove from oven; stir mixture gently. Sprinkle with cheese and onions. Return to oven; bake an additional 5 minutes or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes before serving to thicken sauce. 6 servings.

Mr. Jennings, a Claremont native, is Director of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Oshkosh Corporation. He attended Winona State University, where he received a degree in Composite Materials Engineering. He earned a MBA in Supply Chain Management from Arizona State University in 2003. The mission of the Dodge Center Foundation is to serve the greater Dodge Center community by providing leadership to support projects that enhance the quality of life for area residents. The foundation is led by Brian Weber. “Dodge Center residents have an exceptional track record of supporting local campaigns – including the Dodge Center Golf Course expansion, the Natalie Webb Aquatic Center, Cobra Country and many other projects,” says Mr. Weber. “The Foundation is a way to build on the success of those projects for future initiatives.” The Foundation is spearheading a successful fundraising project to build a veteran’s memorial near the aquatic center. This project, when completed, will stand as public recognition and gratitude by the citizens of Dodge Center to military veterans, past, present and future. The Foundation’s fundraising priorities and future funding efforts focus on community development (recreational, arts, educational and health-related projects). “It is a strongly held belief by the Foundation that such family-friendly amenities will not only promote healthy activities for the citizens of the Dodge Center community but also attract new residents to our community,” says Mr. Weber. Overwhelmed Senior Dear Overwhelmed, With so many choices and options available today, shopping for a hearing aid that meets your needs, lifestyle and budget can be challenging. Here are some tips that can help you locate a good hearing aid provider and choose an appropriate aid. Choose a Provider The first step in buying a hearing aid is to choose a good provider. The best option – as recommended by Consumer Reports – is an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat doctor) who employs an audiologist that fits and dispenses hearing aids. An otolaryngologist will first examine your ears and rule out any medical conditions such as a tumor, bacterial infection or ear wax that can affect your hearing. Medicare will cover the medical exam and an audiologist’s test if ordered by a physician. If you can’t find a conveniently located doctor’s office that dispenses aids, an independent audiologist or hearing instrument specialist is a good alternative. To search for these professionals in your area, see howsyourhearing.org and ihsinfo.org. Big box retailers like Wal-Mart and Costco also sell hearing aids. Or, if you’re a veteran, be sure to check with your nearest VA health facility. Eligible veterans may be able to get hearing aids for free. During Your Visit After you locate a provider, when you go in for your first visit you need to be prepared to discuss your lifestyle and hearing needs. For example: Do you just want to hear the TV, or other people speaking? Do you talk on the phone a lot? Do you need to hear in a lot of noisy places, like restaurants? Knowing your priorities will help your provider determine what style and hearing aid technology is best for you. You’ll also be given a hearing test in a soundproof booth to determine what type of hearing loss you have. After the test, your provider should give you a choice of hearing aid brands, features and styles to consider. To help you decide, ask for a demonstration. Many providers are able to put a disposable plug on the tip of a behind-the-ear hearing aid and program the device to your hearing loss so you can experience how it works. Also ask about popular add-on features like “telecoils” that helps with phone conversations, “directional microphones” that can help you hear in noisy places, and “feedback cancellation” that prevents the aid from squealing when you get too close to other audio equipment. But, keep in mind that the extra features will drive up the price. At the Fitting After you buy your hearing aid, don’t leave the office without making sure it physically fits your ear and that it does what you want it to do. To help with this, ask to have a “real-ear” test which measures the match between your hearing loss and the response of your hearing aid. Also get a signed copy of a contract that outlines the hearing aid you’re buying, along with the price, trial period, any nonrefundable fees and the warranty. Most manufacturers allow a 30 to 60-day trial period to be sure you’re satisfied, and provide follow-up visits to help you with needed adjustments or questions. Resources You also need to know that digital hearing aids are expensive, typically costing between $1,000 and $3,500 per ear, and they’re not covered by traditional Medicare or most private insurance companies. To look for help, call the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders at 800-241-1044 and ask them to mail you their list of financial resources for hearing aids. business directory Zumbro Valley Golf Course promoting Spring Tee Off event Last spring the area was spoiled by the uncharacteristically warm dry winter and spring that enabled area golf courses to open at least a month earlier than usual. The Zumbro Valley Golf Course opened Saturday, March 24. That did not happen this year. For a third year Jordan Sorensen, a native of New Hampton, Iowa will serve as the general manager. Jordan has experienced quite a change from working in business management at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago and two other large hotels in Chicago. In this position Jordan has the opportunity to perform a variety of duties, from planning events and booking parties to cooking and bartending. Jordan's initial spring goal is to increase memberships and have new faces try the bar and restaurant and play the nine hole course. Another focus is for the course to open in good condition under the guidance of grounds superintendent Ben Langan. One of the benefits of being a member at ZVRC is the reciprocity program with 15 other courses that entitles the golfer to play courses at a substantially discounted rate. Area courses in the program are The Oaks Country Club in Hayfield, The Links of Byron, Pine Island Golf Course and Dodge Country Club in Dodge Center. The first event to kick off the spring season is a "Spring Tee Off" Saturday, April 13. There will be dinner, cash drawings and a live band, "Break Even" starting at 8:30 p.m. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased in advance. The public is invited to the Early Bird Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 20th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Call the clubhouse at 635-2821

VFW Auxillary #4555 to host “Poppy” Spring Salad Luncheon VFW Auxiliary #4555 in Mantorville will host a “Poppy” Spring Salad Luncheon on Thursday, April 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is the third annual salad luncheon for the Auxiliary. This year’s luncheon will kick off the annual Buddy Poppy promotion that will be held in May. The poppy is a remembrance of the sacrifices that so many veterans have made throughout the years. The Auxiliary thinks it is important to promote poppies all through the year and will use the poppy flower as the decorating centerpiece at the luncheon. Everyone is invited to attend. Take out meals will 16,17shnc be available.
Q: With the potential for a severe wildfire season this spring, is there anything people can do to protect their homes and cabins? A: Late winter is the best time to prune trees. Look at the trees and shrubs within 100 feet surrounding the cabin or house. Eliminate ladder fuels by pruning 6 to 10 feet up from the ground. Thin out evergreen trees so their branches are 10 feet apart. Maintain a 10-foot space between the crowns of those trees. Clean roof and gutters of any pine needles, leaves or debris. Prune off any tree branches that may be touching the house. Move any wood piles outside of the 30-foot zone surrounding the cabin or house. Make sure that chimney has a spark arrestor. Now, while the snowpack is still here, burn brush piles. Remember, people need a burning permit if there have less than 3 inches of snow on the ground.
