Weichert Real Estate affiliates rise to No. 2 real estate franchise in the US
Festival in the Park Button Design Contest
Kasson
Entrepreneur magazine 2013 Franchise 500® list is testimony to N.J. franchiseʼs rise
Festival In The Park
Weichert Real Estate Affiliates, Inc. (WREA) was ranked #2 by Entrepreneur magazine among all other competitors in the real estate category in its “Entrepreneur 2013 Franchise 500®” list, an annual ranking of America’s top franchise opportunities. According to the magazine’s website, “Our 34th annual franchise 500 ranking reveals the impact of the newest trends and the industries poised for growth.” WREA entered the franchise arena in 2001 as a division of Weichert, Realtors®, opening its first affiliated office in January 2002. In 2005, WREA was identified in Entrepreneur’s “Top 10 New Franchises” as one of the fastest growing U.S. franchises and was the only real estate organization to be included. In 2008, Entrepreneur’s 29th Annual Franchise 500® listed WREA in 35th place among the nation’s fastest growing franchises in all categories. According to the magazine, this made Weichert Real Estate Affiliates the second-fastest growing real estate franchise in the nation. Currently, Weichert’s independently owned and operated affiliates serve more than 230 markets in 35 states. One-stop shopping, relocation outreach, top Internet presence, agent training and leads direct to agents contribute to the Weichert reputation. Remarking on the company's continued progression through the franchise standings, WREA President, Martin J. Rueter, said, "We are honored to again be recognized by this prestigious ranking. Our advancements as indicated by Entrepreneur are a true testament to the strength of the Weichert brand, our systems and the network of professionals that represent the company around the nation."

You ask the Senior question
We find the Savvy answer
Resources for Seniors Interested Mantorville In Retiring Abroad Dear Savvy Senior, Welcome Center What tips and resources can you recommend to folks interested in retiring abroad? My wife and I will be retir- Meeting ing next year and are intrigued with the idea of living in a foreign country. What can you tell us? Looking Abroad Dear Looking, Whatever your reasons for wanting to retire abroad – a desire for adventure, a lower cost of living, a better climate – you need to do your homework and learn everything you can about the country you’re interested in because there are many unknowns. Here are some tips and resources to help you get started. Researching Tools You can find lots of information and articles on the countries and cities you’re interested in retiring to at websites like International Living (internationalliving.com), Escape Artist (escapeartist.com) and AngloINFO (angloinfo.com). International Living even offers a short quiz you can take and help you discover your ideal overseas retirement location. There are also some great books on this topic like “How to Retire Overseas: Everything You Need to Know to Live Well (for Less) Abroad” by Kathleen Peddicord, and “Retirement Without Borders” by Barry Golson. These books and others like it are available in book stores nationwide or online at amazon.com. Or, check with your local public library. Another good tip is to talk or network with some expatriates who have already made the move you’re thinking about making. They can give you tips and suggestions, as well as the advantages and disadvantages and day-to-day reality of living in a particular country. Some popular sites to finding expat resources are expatexchange.com and expatforum.com. Here are some other areas you need to investigate. • Cost of living: Retiring abroad used to be seen as a surefire way to live beyond your means, and for some countries it still is. But the U.S. dollar isn’t what it used to be, so your money may not stretch as far as you think. See numbeo.com and xpatulator.com for a country-by-country cost of living comparison. • Safety and stability: The U.S. State Department offers background notes or fact sheets on 200 countries (see state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn) providing information about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy and foreign relations. • Weather: Use worldclimate.com to get weather information on just about every significant city in the world. • Taxes: No matter what foreign country you decide to retire in, as long as you’re a U.S. citizen you still have to pay U.S. taxes. For details see the IRS publication 54, “Tax Guide for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad,” at irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p54.pdf, or call 800-829-3676 and ask them to mail you a copy. • Health care: Medicare does not cover retirees outside the U.S., so you’ll need to contact the embassy or consulate (see usembassy.state.gov) of your destination country to see how you can be covered as a foreign resident. Many countries provide government-sponsored health care that’s inexpensive, accessible and just as good as what you get in the states, or you may want to buy a policy. Outfits like the Association of Americans Resident Overseas (aaro.org), April Medibroker (medibroker.com) and Bupa International (bupa-intl.com) offer or broker affordable health plans. • Social Security: This is the one area you don’t need to worry about. You can receive your monthly Social Security benefits almost anywhere you live around the world. Your benefits can be deposited into your bank account either in the U.S. or in your new home country – there are some exceptions. To learn more, see ssa.gov/pubs/10137.pdf. • Test run: Once you settle on a destination, be sure you visit multiple times during different seasons to see whether you can envision yourself living there and not just exploring the place as a tourist. If you like what you see but aren’t sure where to live, rent before you buy to be certain you’re happy with your choice. Send your senior questions to: Savvy Senior, P.O. Box 5443, Norman, OK 73070, or visit SavvySenior.org. Jim Miller is a contributor to the NBC Today show and author of “The Savvy Senior” book.
The Mantorville Regional Welcome Center Annual Meeting will be held on January 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Welcome Center in Mantorville, MN.

business directory Jason Wilker Retaining Wall & Pavers also does snow removal In 1996 Jason Wilker graduated from Byron High School. He worked for a landscaping company while in high school and determined that was for him. Jason attended Dakota County Technical College and worked in the landscaping business three years and came back to this area where he worked another six months. While working at his father's lumber yard in Rochester, Jason delivered materials to new construction sites. This is where he developed a contractor connection for the landscaping business. It was at that time Jason decided it was time to go out on his own, and that was 13 years ago. Two years ago Jason bought the property just north of Kasson on the landfill road (240th Avenue) that was formerly the shop for the late Bob Moore, an excavator. The traffic exposure has had Jason thinking about doing some retail out of the building this year. Jason does landscaping, brick pavers, retaining walls, ponds and irrigation. During the peak season he has a staff of six and has had up to 13 working for him. He works with four different builders, does commercial work and said most of his business comes from residential customers (existing homes). Jason said he had a very strong landscaping season. In 2011 he installed 30-35 semi loads of block and in 2012 did 55 semi loads. "It was a great year for us," said Jason. I really enjoy working with people and every job is different. The greatest reward comes at the end-seeing the finished product," added Jason. While landscaping is Jason Wilker's bread and butter, snow plowing and snow removal is an important part of the business. It keeps his full time guys
working. Jason has three other employees in the winter. They do commercial and residential plowing and use three plow trucks and a skid loader. Jason did away with the "contract" plowing charging so much for a season. With a winter like the area had last year a homeowner or commercial customer would be overcharged. Of course if there was a good old fashioned Minnesota winter then the customer gets their money's worth. Charging per time makes it simpler for Jason and the customer. Jason is married to Tiffany (Bierlin), a K-M graduate, and they have children ages 9, 6 and 3. "It's what I like to do," said Jason, "because I like to deal with people." Jason's number is (507)7757800 or (cell) (507)208-1819 for snow removal or have him sit down and give a free estimate on a spring landscaping project.
This is one of the three plow trucks Jason Wilker uses to do residential and commercial snow plowing in the area. He also uses a skid loader. Jason is entering his 14th year in the landscaping and snow removal business.
Jason Wilker had a large sign made for the landscaped area near his business so come this spring people will know what the business is all about. The business is located at 240th Avenue and is visible as motorists drive toward the transfer station.

Andry is a six pound Chihuahua who is four years old. He has the appearance of an older dog because of the white around his face, but that's just his good looks. Andry was pulled by Small Dog Rescue from a shelter in Texas 45 minutes before his scheduled euthanasia. Andry walks great on a leash, loves to be carried around and is tolerant, up to a point, with the one year old baby in the house. He loves to give the baby kisses, however he does like to play rough so a home without small kids would be best. Andry loves to run around in the ® yard and sun himself wherever the sun comes in the window. Doesn't matter where it is, on top of a shoe, at the bottom of the stairs, he'll find the sun and follow it! He likes to snuggle and lay on the couch with his person. Andry also likes to bat his treats, much like a cat would, he also tosses them in the air. Andry is good with other dogs and it is suspected cats, but that hasn't been tested. His ears show signs of Fly Strike which is a common condition in the south caused by flies eating the tips of a dog's ears. They are healed now but are permanently scarred. Andry is all Chihuahua in the sense that he prefers one person (whether it's a man or woman) and he can be fearful around overbearing strangers. Andry needs a day or two to warm up and feel safe. He needs someone who truly knows the breed and understands that he needs security, routine, and a soft hand. Andry is housetrained, neutered and has had a dental. He is vaccinated and up to date with shots, is heartworm and intestinal parasite free and microchipped. For more information on adopting Andry or any of our other dogs visit:
