Perfect score wins final football contest In week number 12 of the Kasson State Bank football contest a perfect score by Linda Halverson was the winner. However, there were four other perfect scores which has never happened before. The others were Todd Halverson of Byron, Allison Hauschild, and Sherry Whalen both of Kasson and Ken Halverson of Mantorville.

It's not very often that someone has a perfect score and needs the tiebreaker to be declared the winner of the $25 prize. The tiebreaker was the Minnesota Gophers 38-14 loss at Nebraska. Linda had the tiebreaker 37-16 so she was only three points off the actual score. Sherry Whalen was only four points off the actual. She had the Gophers losing 42-14. Unfortunately Frank Marolt of Byron had three wrong because he was right on with the final score of 38-14.

Hi, I’m Dr. Katie L. Elmore, D.C.

Expires 12/31/12.

Professional Qualifications Did you know that becoming certified as a chiropractor requires a minimum of six years of highly specialized college trainings? Today’s Doctor of Chiropractic must complete 4,485 hours of classroom instruction and pass a rigid chiropractic board examination before earning a license. In most states, continuing educational seminars must be completed for annual license renewal. Personal Background In addition, I have completed courses in biology, exercise science and nutrition and hold a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry from North Dakota State University, and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern College of Chiropractic. To further my continuing education, I received special training since college in Pediatric and Post-natal Training from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. And, I have visited a number of other chiropractic clinics to study their methods and procedures including: Bloomington Natural Care Center in Bloomington, MN. Additionally, I devote two days every six weeks attending a nationwide seminar in Orlando, Florida, to stay current on the latest chiropractic advances. This is the kind of training and professionalism I offer you. If you have hesitated visiting a chiropractor, perhaps you didn’t know that chiropractors go to such great lengths to continue their education and provide you with the latest techniques and the most qualified service. Call me today and let me help you.

Jessica Bradford loves what she does and does what she loves. A passing comment by her father sparked an idea for Jessica that has lead to a successful venture. Jessica's father had just completed treatment and commented to her that Kasson would be a good location for a lodging facility for people who have completed treatment. A "bridge" so to speak to assist them in transitioning to mainstream living. Jessica and her father Virgil had purchased a house with the intent to flip it. On one hand the flip was a flop; on the other hand Dodge Board and Lodge is now four years later successfully occupying and operating in that very house. The sober house has served as an asset to many people in recovery. "We are currently starting an alumni group. Of the 30 people involved only three were originally from the area. All have found jobs and the majority have remained in this area to live and work", shares Jessica. In order to stay at the house clients must adhere to mandatory guidelines. Clients are required to attend four AA/NA meetings each week, stay sober, find a sponsor and actively job search. They also do their own cooking, cleaning and sleep in shared bedrooms. "The Kasson area community and businesses have been very supportive. Employers here have hired many of our clients", Jessica says gratefully. St. Peter's Episcopal Church holds a free of charge community meal, "A Place at the Table", each Wednesday evening at 5:30. This provides clients an opportunity to prepare a meal and meet community members. Families are able to sit at the table and share a three course meal. St. John's Lutheran Church provides every client with a quilt. This is a meaningful remembrance when they leave. St. John's also provides the house with meals when they have extra food from events. The water aerobics and Homemaker groups give generous donations of paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, etc.) at Christmas time. Homemakers also make a platter of Christmas goodies for the house. "We are so fortunate and grateful for all of this", says Jessica. "The support has been awesome. The community has been very welcoming and helpful". Dodge County has also been there for the house from the start whether it is Drug Court, the judicial system or Human Services; all have helped with the success of the DBL. Another part of staying at the house are the random night checks performed three to four times a week. These checks include

•Trusted Advisor •Skilled Negotiator •Experienced Realtor

both breathalyzer and urine checks. "The house is not staffed at night, but these checks assure us clients are staying sober and following guidelines", Jessica points out. Clients come from all over the country as well as from regional treatment centers such as Hazelton and Fountain Center. Many are referred through Mayo Clinic. Generally DBL is a self pay and state funded program. When clients get a job the state portion is cut back and the clients are responsible for a portion of their stay with some going to a savings account in the client's name. "This money helps them rent and furnish an apartment when they leave", says Jessica. Finding a job is essential in starting a new life along with paying a portion of their stay. “This is real life”, states Jessica. What does the future hold for DBL? Jessica is currently working on attaining her Drug and Alcohol counseling degree that she hopes will help DBL become a treatment center. She is also taking college classes toward a degree in social work. Never mind the fact she has a husband and two children and only one other fulltime employee, Wendy Kruger, house manager, and another on-call employee, Karen Stage. It is obvious this is a labor of love for Jessica and Wendy who have worked together since DBL opened. Jessica is also envisioning the house growing-both in physical size and program offerings. Currently the meeting schedule is as follows; Monday 7 p.m. Women's Group, Thursday 7 p.m. Big Book, and Saturday 7:00 p.m. Open Topic and Sunday 6:00p.m. Recovery Support Group. She would like to see the addition of a family support group for adults and kids. She would also like to see the current meeting area remodeled and enlarged. At this time the groups meet in the garage of the house; adequate, but a larger, improved area would be a welcome change. Upcoming events include a Chili Feed and Raffle

Fundraiser on Saturday, December 1st at 4:30 at St. John's. The evening will include speakers telling their stories involving the house and there will be kids activities with face painting, wacky hair, and games. The community is invited to attend. When asked if anything more could be done to help DBL, Jessica says no, there is not a need at this time, the community has been so generous. She and Wendy want to make sure community members know they appreciate all that has been done to help them do what they love to do, provide lodging, support, and guidance for those in recovery.

Dick Winchell is serving as the store manager in Kasson and Cannon Falls. As of March 2013 Dick will have been in the cellular business for 20 years here. As of June 20, 2012 K.L. Communications of Kasson, owned by Dick Winchell, has transitioned to Mobile Life, a company owned by Nicki Veenendall of La Crosse, WI. They operate under the name BeMobile, a Verizon Wireless premium retail store. Nicki has been in the cellular phone business for eight years. She began in the industry through the family business, ProCellular, that her father established and grew to 71 locations throughout the upper midwest. On September 1, 2011 Nicki went into business on her own by purchasing three stores similar to those owned by Winchell. This transition to BeMobile, a Verizon Wireless Premium Retailer allows for the ability to provide quicker access to the newest devices and increased inventory of phones and accessories. Under the previous ownership Dick Winchell did not have access to the newest devices, often times not until several weeks and even months after they were already being marketed by the big box stores and agents. Since BeMobile is classified as a premium retailer their access to the newest phones and accessories is immediate. "We have everything they have in Rochester, and more.. " said Nicki. "Customers can get the same products with an even wider accessory selection and still be able to shop local in a family owned business where they are treated personally and not like a number. "Be Fast. Be Reliable. BeMobile Now" is the theme for BeMobile and a testament for selling the most up to date phones as well as landlines and home internet. A new product is Sure Response, much like Life Alert. The big differ-

LEGAL NOTICE Wasioja Township Snow Removal Policy PURPOSE: To give the citizens of Wasioja Township a realistic expectation of the snow and ice removal services that will be provided during the winter season. GOAL: The general goal of the Township is to keep the township roads passable during the most heavily traveled periods of the week. Service is prioritized by the most logical routing pattern. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES: The first priority is to make ALL roads passable. Once all roads are passable, the lanes will then be widened, and abrasive material applied if necessary. Finally, additional clean up will be done, if time allows before the next snow. Wasioja Township has only one operator, one snow plow, and one truck. Operator duty shifts must be limited to 12 hours per day for safety reasons, therefore in no case is 24 hour a day coverage provided. Icing and snow drifting on roads are an expected aspect of winter travel and generally are not adequate justification to dispatch the snow plow. Hours of operation will be determined by weather conditions and/or traffic volume. Weekends and holidays will receive a reduced level of service, due to lower traffic volume and limited resources available. If the weather service has recommended no travel, it is assumed there will be lower traffic volume, resulting in lower level of service. Operations will be halted when conditions are too hazardous, or if reasonable accomplishments cannot be made. EMERGENCY CALLS: Snow plows will not be dispatched at night on most roads except for true emergency calls such as assisting, fire departments, ambulance crews, or searching for known stranded motorists. STATE LAW PROHIBITS ANY PUSHING OR DUMPING OF SNOW ONTO TOWNSHIP ROAD RIGHT OF WAY. Wasioja Township Board I: 48-49c
