Minnesota Book Award nominee Eric Dregni will discuss growing up in a Swedish and Norwegian household in his book "Vikings In the Attic" at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7th at the Dodge Center Library. He'll explore the significant and quite often quirky historic sites, tales, and traditions of Scandinavians of the Midwest. This is a free event open to the public. Rod French, owner of French’s Repair and Fabrication, stands by a PowerLift Hydraulic Door they will transport to a job site. In September Rod expanded the business to the industrial park east of Dodge Center just off County #34. With the move to the new building he was able to expand the business and become a dealer for PowerLift Hydraulic Doors.

Rod French of Dodge Center worked for McNeilus for 15 years and decided it was time to go out on his own. He used his experience from McNeilus to start French’s Repair & Fabrication in 2001. Last fall Rod expanded the business into a larger building in the industrial park east of Dodge Center just off County #34 at 20960 636th Street, Dodge Center. As a result of that move, Rod was able to expand the business and take on the PowerLift Hydraulic Doors. The company was started 20 years ago by an individual from Lake Benton, MN who has expanded the business to selling and installing 600 doors a year. “They checked my background out pretty good and I checked them out,” said Rod. “I wanted to make sure they were selling a good product and they wanted to make sure we were a reputable business selling their product,” added Rod. One facet of French’s Repair and Fabrication is on-farm welding. A majority of the PowerLift Hydraulic Door customers are also farmers. Once the farm building goes up they custom fit a door for the building. The door comes with a lifetime structure warranty. The door is built in the shop and hauled to the farm site. “It can get a little tricky transporting the doors,” said Rod.
In the fabrication business they refurbish garbage and Ready Mix trucks, do wheel base slides and frame extension for larger trucks and add pushers to axles. All of that work is done in the shop. Rod insists most days are very rewarding and he has no regrets of going out on his own. “I like to meet new people and you get to do that in this business,” grinned Rod. French’s Repair & Fabrication will be having an open house for the public French’s Repair & Fabrication employees Joe Friday, February 8 from 10 Wernecke and Josh Bartel are constructing a custom fit a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. PowerLift Hudraulic Door for a customer. There will be refreshments, snacks and door prizes.

Help the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester by bringing aluminum cans and pop tabs to the Cans for Kids Collection Day. This community-wide project to help the children of the Ronald McDonald House is sponsored by McNeilus Companies. A McNeilus truck and volunteers will be at the Ronald McDonald House parking lot (850 2nd St. SW, Rochester) to accept donated aluminum cans and pop tabs from 8:00 a.m. to noon. McDonald’s restaurants have provided a beverage coupon for everyone making a donation of aluminum cans or pop tabs. All contributions from Cans for Kids help the Rochester Ronald McDonald House. Aluminum recycling has supported the Rochester Ronald McDonald House for more than 10 years. Help with the cause! Bury the Sisters! “Nunsense” to be performed Feb. 8th-24th. Alexa Nash
Anne (Priscilla Reumping) with her ambitious wish for the spotlight, Sister Mary Leo (Alexa Nash) who strives to be the world’s first nun ballerina, and Sister Mary Amnesia (Cheryl Frarck) who lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head. With the assistance of Sister Cardelia (Cindy Saunders), Sister Mary Martin (Shari Welsh), Sister Mary Poppins (Wendy Schleeter) and Father Myopia (Daniel Sorensen) they make the entirety of the event a riot and an exciting show to behold. Performances are scheduled from February 8th to February 24th, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $18.00 and Senior and Children’s tickets are $16.00. Tickets can be purchased using PayPal at www.mantorvillain.com or by calling in your reservations at (507) 635-5420. Confirmations will not be given unless the show is sold out, then you will receive a phone call. The theater has general seating, so plan on picking up your tickets at least 15 minutes in advance. Nuns are known by many different stereotypes, such as being strict or heavenly. This show will bring out all the stereotypes you know and throw them into the twist of a lifetime. This play has so many comedic pieces and musical performances, it will make any audience pray for more. This February, the Mantorville Opera House will be performing “Nunsense”, written by Dan Goggin, directed by Laura Nordland with musical direction by Paula Sorensen. The musical is portrayed as a fundraising event in Mount Saint Helen’s School with the Little Sisters of Hoboken. Reverend Mother Regina (played by Paula Sorensen) is in charge of the show and has help on the keyboard from Mr. Dan Scheital and stage help from Brother Lycus Flaherty to keep things running on track. Due to an unfortunate incident with the Vichyssoise soup made by Sister Julia, Child of God, the convent lost 52 of their sisters and still has four left to bury in the freezer. Therefore, Reverend Mother and Sister Hubert (Melanie Dobson) have picked out their most talented nuns to perform in order to raise enough money to bury the last of the sisters.
