Pictured above are Triton All Conference football players Ayrton Henderson, Alex Head, Justin Erdmann, Cody Schaefer and Joe Rislov. Picture and story submitted by Rita Malsom.

2012 BLUE DIVISION ...............GRADE.....HEIGHT....WEIGHT ...........POSITION

Cody Schaefer - Senior 6’, 175 lbs., QB/DB Cody had a great senior year before his shoulder injury in the regular season finale. He led the HVL with five interceptions one of which he returned for a touchdown. He led the offense to 30.9 points per game in conference play by rushing for six TD’s and passing for eight TD’s. Justin Erdmann - Senior 5’10”, 165 lbs., RB/DB Justin has been an integral part of the Cobra FB program for the last three years. He started at cornerback as a sophomore on the 2010 state runner-up team. As a junior and senior he started both ways and led the team in scoring both years with 10 TD’s as a junior and 14 TD’s as a senior to go along with his 807 rushing yards as a senior. His hard-nosed play and determination will be missed. Ayrton Henderson - Senior 6’, 165 lbs., RB/DB Ayrton is another player who has had a big impact on the program for the last three years. He started as a safety on the 2010 state runner-up team. Over the last 12 games of his career he rushed for over 1,600 yards going for 875 as a junior and 905 as a senior. Playing with a shoulder he separated in the first game of his senior year he was still able to make an impact for this year’s team. Ayrton is in the Triton record book with the top 3 single game rushing totals in school history including the top mark of 306 yards vs MontgomeryLonsdale in 2011. He also comes in at #4 in Triton career rushing yardage at 2,172 yards. Alex Head - Senior 5’11”, 155 lbs., SE/LB Alex is a great success story and a role model for younger players who might not be very big. Starting as an outside linebacker his junior and senior seasons he had 61 tackles as a junior and 71 as a senior. Alex was also an excellent blocker on offense from his split end or tight end position. He worked hard for everything he got and was a quiet leader on the team. Joe Rislov - Senior 6’2”, 190 lbs., OL/DL Joe was a two way starter for both his junior and senior seasons. The fourth (and youngest) Rislov to play the line for the Cobras he did a great job of opening holes for the running backs on offense and played a solid defensive line position.

Honorable Mention: Bradley Myers, Junior • 6’1”, 200 lbs., TE/LB Evan McNeilus • Junior, 6’1”, 190 lbs., OL/LB Alex Hoberg • Junior, 6’3”, 185 lbs., SE/LB *Should be noted Lourdes state runner-up football team did not submit names for all-conference

selected Minnesota Restaurant of the Year Last week the Minnesota Restaurant Association presented 2012 awards and the Hubbell House was selected as the Minnesota Restaurant of the Year. Hubbell House owner Don Pappas and several employees attended the awards ceremony November 19 at the Saint Paul Hotel. Over the years the Hubbell House has been bestowed with several awards. Don Pappas said being selected the Minnesota Restaurant of the Year is the biggest honor they have ever received. He also said it was only fitting eight staff members could attend because there are so many people at the restaurant who made the honor possible. “I am proud of the award and our staff,” said Don. The Restaurant of the Year recognizes a company that provides outstanding customer service and distinguishes itself as a leader in the industry and community. The Hubbell House is one of Minnesota’s oldest restaurants, established in 1854 as an important stop between Winona and St. Peter, then the aspiring state capitol. First operated as an inn, famous guests include Horace Greeley, Alexander Ramsey and Ulysses Grant. In 1946 Paul Pappas laid his eyes on the old limestone structure and knew he had found the location of his dream restaurant. Paul and Irene Pappas expanded the Hubbell House from one dining room for 60 customers to six dining rooms that can seat over 300 guests. Designated a national historic site, the Hubbell House continues to host famous guests, from Dwight Eisenhower to Roy Rogers to Mickey Mantle to the Minnesota Vikings, who train in Mankato. Paul passed away in 1996, just a few days before celebrating his 50th year of ownership. Son Don Pappas represented the family in accepting the award. He introduced eight employees, noting their years of service and how each has contributed to the success of the restaurant. Waitress Jan Smith drew the most applause when Don said she has worked at the restaurant since 1947. "I really enjoy it and

would miss all the people I get to see," said Jan. Four other staff members have at least 30 years experience. General manager Doug Kracht (43 years) and chef Jary Gardner (38 years) have a combined 81 years experience between them and waiter Dan Driver and hostess Ann Driver have 30 years each. “These are the people who have made the Hubbell House,” said Pappas.” Doug Kracht said Paul Pappas was always a great guy to work for and to be around this long he said, “You have to like the business and the people you work with”. We have tried to keep pace with the trends and I think we have done that,” added Kracht. The Hubbell House is the first southeast Minnesota restaurant to receive the Restaurant of the Year honor. A majority of the honors have gone to restaurants in the Twin Cities metro area.

Attending the Minnesota Restaurant Association 2012 awards ceremony representing the Hubbell House were: Seated Karri Burns, Jan Smith who has waitressed at the Hubbell House since 1947, and Heather Swygman, standing: Scott Pappas, Ann Driver, Don Pappas, Jary Gardner, Doug Kracht, Dan Driver and Dick Jensch.

Hubbell House owner Don Pappas introduces employee Jan Smith who has been on the wait staff since 1947. She received the most applause when introduced at the Minnesota Restaurant Association banquet where the Hubbell House was selected by peers as the 2012 Restaurant of the Year.

CONGRATULATIONS

Last Thursday Carol Helvig and her husband Michael opened Carol's Critter Clips on Main Street, next to the State Theatre in Kasson. The building was formerly occupied by Rosie's Pampered Puppies Grooming, owned by Rosie Rose. She moved into a building in the country and Carol's Critter Clips moved from their Rochester location to downtown Kasson. Carol worked in Rochester for two years as a manager in the grooming salon at Pet Smart. She does bathing, brushing and grooming of cats and dogs. Carol said she has groomed about every breed of dog imaginable. She can also do limited boarding. Carol emphasizes that she does "gentle" grooming. "It's not about how much money I can make in a day," said Carol. "If someone thinks their dog is going to be in and out in an hour, that's not me. Carol has always loved working with animals and her business is an extension of that love. With the fancier breeds of dogs grooming can be an art. Patience is also a necessity. Carol recently hired long time friend Georgie Green to work as a groomer. Hours for now are by appointment and that includes evenings and weekends. The number is (507)398-5569.

For more information on the animal below, call Camp Companion at 951-7801. www.campcompanion.org November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month! Maddie is a beagle and estimated to be about nine years old. Up until a few weeks ago she had lived her entire life in a puppy mill producing many litters of puppies. This girl had not experienced being petted, played with, or loved. Now her puppy making days are over and so is that other life. Maddie is spayed, has had a dental check-up and also has had a large hernia repaired. She is ready and looking for her very own home to "retire" to. She wants to learn what it is like to be a dog and to enjoy those simple pleasures in life like being pet, going for a walk, lying in the sun, and knowing someone loves her. This girl is quiet and sweet, enjoys people, other dogs, and she is fine with cats. Maddie is curious, smart, and eager to please. She mastered potty training the first couple of days in her foster home and enjoys living in a house. She is truly thankful for this new life and would do well in most situations. All adoptable pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. For more information about adoption, please contact Camp Companion at 507-9517801, www.campcompanion.org, or find us on Facebook!

On the First Day of Christmas, Mantorville gives to you, a day filled with wonder and warmth. The 18th Annual Olde Fashioned Christmas in Mantorville will be held Saturday December 1. Begin your holiday season with us! The County Seat Coffeehouse will be hosting a Candlelight Breakfast from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Meet friends here and enjoy the special menu offered by Adrienne and Kristin. Further up the hill, The Old School CafĂŠ will have take home holiday treats for sale today and throughout the month of December. Jolly Old St. Nicholas will be at the Opera House waiting to hear everyone’s wishes from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Parents! Grandparents! Aunties and Uncles! Here is your chance to catch the perfect Christmas photo. Santa brings his sleigh indoors just for this occasion. Brian Hindal of Sacramento Valley Photography will be available to take pictures or you can capture the moment yourself. Now that the most important task of the day is complete and Santa has your wish list carefully memorized, take the time to unwind as you tour Mantorville by horse drawn wagon. Wear warm clothes! This wagon is open air! Rides leave from the Opera House from 11a.m. until 3 p.m. After you have had a chance to snuggle up with your sweetie in the fresh air, head over to Main Street. Peruse the Craft and Bake Sale at the V.F.W. Then visit the Art Guild where the artists there will help kids create Christmas ornaments. Nothing says “Happy Holidays!â€? like a glitter covered paper creation. Back by popular demand is the Ornament Hunt. Pick up an entry blank at any participating business or at the Opera House on Saturday. Find the hidden Candy Cane in each business. Fill in the pieces of the puzzle and be eligible to win prizes. This year Mantor Money will be given away to three lucky winners. And above all this bustle you will hear carolers strolling through town. Stop and listen. Join in the songs with them. ‘Tis the season! The day is not yet over. This evening you can attend an encore production of “Uh-oh Here Comes Christmas!â€? at the Opera House. The Mantorville Theater Company is again presenting this series of heartwarming holiday stories that help find the true spirit of the season. Tickets available at the door or by contacting the box office at 635-5420. The story of the Nativity comes to life once again in an ecumenical tradition at the Jim Checkel Farm, 64265 220th Avenue, Kasson. Guided tours of the first Christmas are conducted by area children. Youngsters also portray the characters in the tableaus. There is no charge for this event. A freewill offering for the Dodge County Food Shelf is accepted. Performances run November 30 through December 2. Saturday tours are held from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Olde Fashioned Christmas in Mantorville is sponsored by the Mantorville Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber reminds you to “Shop SmallŠâ€? this holiday season and support local businesses.

Sponsored by:

Safeway Agency

Everyone has a story, whether they are big or small, happy or frustrated; it is all a part of holiday memories. Told in both narrations of the past, or simply the storytelling of song, this play lets you delve into troubles some people have with the famous holiday, with a few fun carols here and there to make the audience want to sing along. This winter season at the Mantorville Opera House, the theater department is proud to present “Uh-Oh! Here Comes Christmas!” written by Robert Fulghum. It is directed by Tom Flaherty with the musical accompaniment by Jaymi Wilson. This show is not just the acting out of a single plot, but rather a group of people

Here Comes Christmas!” began November 23 and will run through December 9, Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $18 and senior and child tickets are $16.

PURPOSE: To give the citizens of Wasioja Township a realistic expectation of the snow and ice removal services that will be provided during the winter season. GOAL: The general goal of the Township is to keep the township roads passable during the most heavily traveled periods of the week. Service is prioritized by the most logical routing pattern. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES: The first priority is to make ALL roads passable. Once all roads are passable, the lanes will then be widened, and abrasive material applied if necessary. Finally, additional clean up will be done, if time allows before the next snow. Wasioja Township has only one operator, one snow plow, and one truck. Operator duty shifts must be limited to 12 hours per day for safety reasons, therefore in no case is 24 hour a day coverage provided. Icing and snow drifting on roads are an expected aspect of winter travel and generally are not adequate justification to dispatch the snow plow. Hours of operation will be determined by weather conditions and/or traffic volume. Weekends and holidays will receive a reduced level of service, due to lower traffic volume and limited resources available. If the weather service has recommended no travel, it is assumed there will be lower traffic volume, resulting in lower level of service. Operations will be halted when conditions are too hazardous, or if reasonable accomplishments cannot be made. EMERGENCY CALLS: Snow plows will not be dispatched at night on most roads except for true emergency calls such as assisting, fire departments, ambulance crews, or searching for known stranded motorists. STATE LAW PROHIBITS ANY PUSHING OR DUMPING OF SNOW ONTO TOWNSHIP ROAD RIGHT OF WAY. Wasioja Township Board I: 48-49c
