Frank Marolt of Byron won this week's Kasson State Bank football contest on a tiebreaker. What is unique about the contest this week is that four contestants tied and in the tiebreaker all four picked the Detroit Lions to win over the Minnesota Vikings. Frank Marolt, Terrance Twite of Dodge Center, Dennis Tucker of Mantorville and Chuck Bishop of Kasson tied for first with two incorrect picks. Marolt had the Lions defeating Minnesota 24-21 and the actual was 3424. He was 13 points off the actual and the closest of the four and will win the $15 prize. The toughest game to pick this week was the Purdue win at Iowa. A couple of other tough games to select were the New York Giants loss to Cincinnati and several entrants had the Gophers losing at Illinois. This week's contest is on page six of shopper A.

DID YOU KNOW Á Wolves live in packs that can have up to 20 members, but usually the alpha male and beta female are the only two in the pack that will mate. Á A wolf has a sense of smell that is 100 times better than that of the average human. Á Howling as a group can protect packs since the combination of harmonies tricks listeners into thinking there are more wolves present. Hi, I’m Dr. Katie L. Elmore, D.C. Professional Qualifications Did you know that becoming certified as a chiropractor requires a minimum of six years of highly specialized college trainings? Today’s Doctor of Chiropractic must complete 4,485 hours of classroom instruction and pass a rigid chiropractic board examination before earning a license. In most states, continuing educational seminars must be completed for annual license renewal. Personal Background In addition, I have completed courses in biology, exercise science and nutrition and hold a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry from North Dakota State University, and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern College of Chiropractic. To further my continuing education, I received special training since college in Pediatric and Post-natal Training from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. And, I have visited a number of other chiropractic clinics to study their methods and procedures including: Bloomington Natural Care Center in Bloomington, MN. Additionally, I devote two days every six weeks attending a nationwide seminar in Orlando, Florida, to stay current on the latest chiropractic advances. This is the kind of training and professionalism I offer you. If you have hesitated visiting a chiropractor, perhaps you didn’t know that chiropractors go to such great lengths to continue their education and provide you with the latest techniques and the most qualified service. Call me today and let me help you.

Tess is a longhair dachshund who is just about perfect in every way. She is affectionate, extremely intelligent and learns in a hurry what is expected of her. Tess is patient and is not at all dominant or demanding. She knows when it’s time to eat and quietly goes to her own place to wait for her doggy meal. Tess is seven years old and weighs 12 pounds but really should lose one which puts her in the miniature dachshund category. Tess loves everyone, although being small she would do best in a home without real young children who might accidentally harm her. She gets along very well with the other dachsies in her foster home. Although Tess came from a “backyard breeder” where she was used to produce puppies, she is house trained and enjoys going for walks ® with her foster mom. She loves to explore in the fenced back yard and it would be nice if her forever home had a fenced yard. Tess does have a bit of separation anxiety when confined alone to a small area but does fine when left on her favorite dog bed with her canine friends when her foster mom leaves for work. She will probably be happiest in a home where someone is around much of the time and where there is at least one other friendly small dog for her to cuddle with. Since she is a breed with the long back and very short legs (chondrodystrophic), she should be discouraged from jumping on and off furniture as this breed of dog is much more prone to back injuries. The ideal home for Tess will be dachshund savvy and use pet stairs or ramps to safely enable their dachshunds to get on and off their favorite chair or bed without risking a ruptured disc from jumping. Dachshunds should never be allowed to climb up and down flights of stairs for this same reason. Tess is now spayed and up to date with shots; She had a much needed dental and is heartworm and intestinal parasite free and microchipped. For more information about Tess find us on Facebook or our website: www.smalldogsminnesota.org
