BIG COLOR, BIG BEAUTYat the Garden

Harmony of color and beauty of form come together in this exhibition of paintings, drawings and monumental sculpture celebrating the visionary Colombian artist, Fernando Botero.
As a poet of daily life in Latin America and a pioneer of figurative art, Botero has been creating art for more than 60 years, in a unique, sumptuous style that is immediately recognizable known as “Boterismo”. Experience the Maestro’s artistic creations in the Garden and in Dorrance Hall, with an expanded gallery space taking an intimate look at his influences, motivations and working methods.
The exhibition is a collaboration with the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, California which is dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latin art.
“We are excited to work with Desert Botanical Garden to bring a unique and immersive experience that celebrates Botero’s indelible contributions to the realm of Latin American Art, and we couldn’t be more delighted to showcase his artwork surrounded by the spectacular beauty of the Sonoran Desert.”
— Lourdes I. Ramos-Rivas, Ph.D., President & CEO MOLAA.

SCIENCE & CONSERVATION
Desert Botanical Garden recently broke ground for Phase 2 of Hazel Hare Center for Plant Science. This $15 million project will advance the Garden’s vision to become a global leader in desert plant conservation and the most sophisticated center in the Southwest for cactus and agave horticulture, conservation and research. Expected completion date of Ahearn Horticulture Center, Exhibition Gallery and Shade Pavilion is 2025 and remaining elements to be completed 2027/2028.
Phase 2 will include:
Ahearn HORTICULTURE CENTER
A unified, energized workspace for the Garden’s horticulture team.
Bekey
GREENHOUSE EAST
Doubling the amount of climate-controlled areas to propagate and nurture region-specific plants.
EXHIBITION GALLERY
A unique space for plant-focused exhibitions and events.
TEACHING GARDEN HOUSE
Premier local resource for Sonoran Desert gardening and landscaping education.
SHADE PAVILION
10,000 square foot state-ofthe-art facility that redefines the care of desert plants and other succulents.
The completion of HHCPS will enable the Garden to not only identify and study threats to our ecosystem, but to also mitigate those threats and improve conditions for desert plant species. The capacity of these new facilities will accelerate the Garden’s efforts to cultivate and preserve flora from arid deserts in Arizona, North America and across the globe.
Christensen Family Desert Oasis garden breaks ground this fall. Nestled between Sybil B. Harrington Cactus and Succulent Galleries, the garden was first conceptualized in the Core Trail Master Plan, along with the Lewis Desert Portal, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust Desert Terrace Garden and the Kitchell Family Heritage Garden. Located along the Desert Discovery Loop trail, key design elements include a bridge, calming water features, seating and displays of seasonal plants. Christensen Family Desert Oasis will be an idyllic space where guests are invited to sit and linger among colorful horticultural displays and a shaded grove of trees.
