Treemendous tree report!
On Monday 16th May 2022, a multi stem silver birch tree was planted by the children of year 4 on the BMS site to commemorate the queen’s platinum jubilee.
Mrs. Hale (the form tutor of one of the year 4 classes, 4KMH) said, “We chose a multi-stem silver birch tree because the white colour of the bark represented platinum.” All the children of year 4 agreed that taking part in the occasion was very exciting indeed. To commemorate the outstanding event, a plaque was made using wood and acrylic which said, Planted by the Junior School, commemorating Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee 2022. Some children were given flags to wave around the tree and everyone sang the National Anthem.
The Junior School children will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a sensational garden party on Thursday 26th May 2022. It will take place on the grass near the newly planted tree. The children are looking forward to wearing their party clothes and having an afternoon off school.

So, what do the children in Year 4 think their tree will look like in the future? Oliver Cassenti (4KMH) said, “When I am in Year 12 I think the tree will be huge and healthy.” Let’s hope so Oliver, let’s hope it’s as huge and healthy as the oak tree planted by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1976 to celebrate the opening of the new BMS site on Manton Lane.

Legends
Many moons ago, in a forest that reached out far and wide, there was a beautiful kingdom. There were crystal clear streams, splendid blossom trees and delightful hedgehogs. However, a great sadness lay over them like a thick back cloud for they held a blood-curdling secret. In the forest, in a cave, lived a terrifying, maneating beast.
The beast stood as strong as a mighty oak and was covered in spots like bloodthirsty eyes that could turn your heart to stone. The beast’s eyes were like raging infernos and its wings were as large as a boulder and as strong as a tornado.
Ever since its arrival, the beast had been threatening to destroy the kingdom unless the people gave it a weekly sacrifice of an animal. Eventually, the people ran out of animals so they met with the king to decide what to do to keep the beast away.
“We have no animals left!” shouted the villagers desperately. “Help! Help! What should we do? The beast will destroy the kingdom and us too!”
The ruler declared, “Every child shall have their name put into a casket and each week, a name shall be drawn. That child will be sacrificed to the beast!”
Over the lands and over the seas, there was a town not so different from ours. These enchanting people had huge smiles on their faces and there were avenues of green trees and fragrant blossoms. It should have been a cheerful place, but a sadness lay over the people like a big grey cloud. For in a dim cave in the icy mountains lived a blood-curdling animal: a colossal ruby-eyed peacock.
The beast was as tall as a door and was covered in fiery feathers with wings as big as a wall. Its bird-like head was as majestic and delicate as a swan. Its eyes were as red as rubies and if you looked into them, you’d disappear. It had one deadly tail that shot boomerangs which were tipped with electric and poison.
Ever since her arrival, the peacock had been threatening to wreck the village so, every week, the people of the town would send the cutest puppy or kitten they had. In return, she would leave the town alone. This had worked for a long time but eventually the town’s people ran out of animals, so they met with the Queen to decide what to do to keep the peacock away. Finally, she declared, “It is well known that peacocks think boys taste like puppy dog’s tails. Every little boy in the town will have their name written on a small cut of paper. Once a week a name shall be chosen and that boy will be sacrificed to the peacock.”
On the same day when the first name was pulled out a young girl called Charlie trotted into town. She was fearless and stunning, with her golden locks tied back with dark blue ribbons. The girl wore armour that was burnt and battered. She carried with her a sword stained with the blood of her enemies. When she rode down the
On the morning of the first lottery, a fearless warrior rode into town- her name was Raven. She was carrying a blood dripping sword and sold gold shield. Her hair was as black as a winter night and her steed was as white as snow.
Eventually, she met an old man who told her the kingdom’s sorrowful tale.
“The first name drawn was Same, the prince.”
When the old man had finished, Raven decided to save the prince. Worried, she took a deep breath to focus her mind on the deadly battle ahead. At full speed, Raven galloped on her steed towards the beast’s lair, silver sword at the ready.
At the dead of night, Raven approached the beast’s lair, ready to strike. In the blink of an eye, the monster came out roaring fiercely. Ferociously, she charged at the beast at galloping speed. Without warning, the deadly beast attacked back with snapping teeth. Suddenly, Raven was knocked down, barely alive. Unknown to her, the beast was about to strike when she took an almighty swing of her sword and to her relief, there was the beast, knocked down, life ebbing away.

path, she recognised that there was no one there and then an old man told her all about the lottery.
“But, “ he went on, “the first name drawn was the Queen’s son, Prince Arthur. He is on his way to the peacock right now!”
Charlie decided that the peacock needed to be dealt with! As the hero galloped towards the beast’s lair, she saw the young prince. She called out to him and told him to wait by a nearby hill. Charlie took out her bloodstained sword and surged on but the beast was ready! With her sword held high, she approached the beast’s lair, ready to fight. The beast came out with a mighty screech. Charlie attacked and hurled her glittery sword at the peacock. Suddenly, the beast used its tail as a shield, deflecting our hero’s sword. Unfortunately, one of the peacock’s feathers scratched Charlie’s arm, poisoning her. She stumbled backwards into a waterfall. Unknown to her, this was an enchanted waterfall and cured her of the poison. Charlie saw a sparkling sword on the floor from a previous victim and grabbed it and plunged it into the back of the beast’s head. The creature writhed in pain, staggered a few steps forward before crashing to the floor DEAD!
Triumphantly, Charlie cleaned her new sword on the grass and set off down the fields towards the hill where Prince Arthur stood waiting.
Drums rat-a-tat tatted and people jumped for joy. The queen was so happy she whooped, “Thank you for saving my son. If you love each other then make it so!”
And they lived happily ever after.

A Greek Myth

In Ancient Greece long ago there was a boy called Chiron. He was son of the mighty Zeus, the God of all Gods, but his son sadly had no powers. Zeus promised his son that if he could stop the evil Neigus from killing people and causing avalanches then he could become the God of Snow and Ice. Chiron agreed easily and went on his journey to Mount Skala. That’s where the evil Neigus lived.
Chiron got there and met Hades who gave him the Cloak of Camouflage and a sword to help him destroy the strong beast.
As Chiron came face to face with the enormous thing, he could smell a vile smell and the beast’s fur was as white as the snow beneath him and his feet were massive. Chiron was terrified but bravely swung his sword at Neigus but Neigus dodged and then threw a punch at Chiron, who fell on the ground and quickly threw The Cape of Camouflage on himself to sneak behind Neigus. He stabbed Neigus in the back, unsure if Neigus was dead or alive. Chiron stabbed him again, now being sure Neigus was dead. He returned to Mount Olympus. Chiron told Zeus and Zeus granted Chiron the power of Snow and Ice.
