Vega Jane
When Math’s finally finished, Vega strolled out of the door and into the corridor full of joyful, cheerful and smiling children. Vega hated it. Suddenly silence descended upon the corridor, people shrank into their lockers and teachers went back into their classrooms. Vega’s piercing eyes glared like green fireballs. She confidently strode down the hall, her leaf coat flowing behind her and her fur dress swaying as she moved. Vega’s hair hit someone in the face in a mess of curly black to white ombre hair. Her mixed-race skin attracted boys, her personality made them think twice. Her mouth frozen into an eternal grimace. No one dared to mess with her. I mean why would they, everyone knows the story of Libby-Alexandra Gates, who messed with Vega and was forced to leave the country.
A voice rang out through the silence. No one EVER dared to make a noise during Vega’s presence. Vega spun on her heel to see the person. Petra Petsite or as
Halloween moon
I sit in the sky and orbit the earth
Waiting, anticipating for anything to see of worth Halloween by far my favourite night
Watching people get a fright
Pumpkins carved smiling and scowling
While grim reapers, devils and werewolves are prowling
The broomsticks dancing through the sky and on the back witches cackling
In the distance, fireworks were laughing and crackling
As the children go to bed and take off their disguise I smile and wait for my friend, the sun to rise.

Vega branded her Petti Petra. Vega strode over shoving everyone in her way. Eventually she reached her.
“I’m going to make your life the most down casted life anyone’s ever had!” boomed Vega.
“W-w-wh-why do you always pick on me? There are 315 other kids in the school. Why m-m-m-me?” stuttered Petra.
“Because I know what you’re going to do about it,” replied Vega calmly. Everyone was scared Vega never said anything calmly.
“What?” asked Petra in an inaudible voice.
“NOTHING!” snapped Vega.
“I know your secret,” whispered Petra.
Vega turned around slowly and punched Petra as hard as she could. Petra lay on the floor: down, hit, knowing she should never have spoken in the first place.

Christmas Production
At the beginning of December Bedford Modern Junior School performed their first Christmas Production in front of a live audience in two years. ‘Bethlehem the Musical’ is a retelling of the traditional Christmas tale, including the fun, comedic backstory of how the residents of Bethlehem respond to a sudden influx of new people who have come to register for the census. Panic sets in as innkeepers put up their prices, businesses compete for new customers and Mary and Joseph struggle to find a room for the night. Meanwhile, Gran spies her opportunity to find her soulmate in the little town of Bethlehem.

But it did not start here, of course. After seven weeks of rehearsals, it finally came to the long-awaited production week. The production week itself proved to be exhilarating yet exhausting. By Tuesday morning, we found ourselves already performing to our first audience of the entire Bedford Modern Junior school. I went on stage feeling confident, but soon that turned to embarrassment as I realised I had forgotten my ukulele (an essential prop for a busker!). Fortunately this was just the dress rehearsal. Thankfully things got better from there, as all the performances went down well with family and friends.
A big thank you to: Mrs Gale for the costumes, Mr Bishop and his talented band and Mrs Garton, Mrs Phillips and Mrs Pacyna for putting it all together.

Is Santa Real?
4:02 AM… My eyes open sharply, I turned over to my iPad illuminating the time and the exciting date. “Christmas!” I screamed in my head. I thrusted my covers off of me and opened the door vigorously to see stacks of presents by my door.
I stepped out onto the landing then, THUD! I tripped and even the deepest sleeper must have heard me. But, to my surprise, no one came. Shaking it off, I crept downstairs and opened the door to see even more presents under the calmingly lit Christmas tree. Then, pieces of coal debris started falling down from the chimney. Was it Santa? I asked myself. No, it can’t be! I snapped back. Worrying what my mind would think of next, I raced upstairs and went back to sleep.
My eyes shuttered open, it was now around 7:30 AM. Still thinking about what happened earlier. I was eight at the time and was starting to get too old to believe in Santa. Moving my thoughts aside, I went into my mum’s room to see my sister (Iris) already opening gifts. I clenched my fists in anger but I covered my rage with a weak smile. Opening all my presents and being more than pleased with them. But there was no time for gratitude because I was soon whizzed off to my Auntie’s. Unfortunately, Iris had to come too.
When I arrived, I was greeted by the warm smile of my Auntie Cat and the beaming excitement of my two cousins, Alex and Thea. My Granny and Grandad were looking like they were going to give me a hug but seemed to change their mind last minute. Then my uncle slowly reached out his hand to give me an awkward fist- bump, but put away his hand before I could put out my own.
We ate a more of a brunch than a traditional turkey, but with pancakes and pastries galore so I wasn’t one bit fussed. We played, talked and celebrated late into the evening. By 21:30 we thought we better get going. We called a taxi as we were all tired.
We got home at around 21:45. I was the first to get in. I put up my coat and I will spare you the details of how I put away my shoes. I walked into the kitchen to and saw a note on the countertop. It read, ‘Hope you are enjoying your presents, Santa.’ It couldn’t have been my family because one, it wasn’t anyone’s handwriting and two, everyone was out all day at my Auntie’s. Maybe Santa is real after all.

Recount - My Olympic Stadium Experience
As I entered the kitchen, my Dad explained that I had a hockey tournament next Sunday. I replied with a cheer as I loved playing hockey. It was going to be the highlight of my weekend. My team (Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club) had not been beaten this year so far, we were a great team and were entering as strong contenders to win. It was now the second Sunday of October 2019 and day of the Oakley Hockey Tournament. I arrived hearing chatter, the sound of stick hitting ball and coaches trying to get their players to listen. I put in my gum shield, put on my lucky glove and slid my stick out of my bag. I observed how the other teams played then got a ball and started to practice. Getting ready for the tournament to start.
The first game began, as I was passed the ball from the centre and passed it out wide, Oakley - our not so great opponent – let in three well worked goals but scored one – very scrappy – goal against us. The other games against Flitwick and Aspley Guise were a breeze (2-0 and 4-2) making us top of our group and onto the finals. As our coach came to congratulate us, he announced that we are going to play at the Hockey Olympic Stadium. WOW! My team and I cheered. I felt so lucky to have this great opportunity. I looked over at our opponents for the final (Shefford and Sandy) who were cheering – looked like they’re going too. The coach said not to get too far ahead of ourselves we still have a final to play, we all put our serious faces, ready to win. The game was tough as they played dirty. We passed the ball around and scored two quick goals, 2-0. They scored one scrappy goal then another, 2-2. I was passed the ball and wanted to do something special so I skilled past three players and smacked the ball through the keeper’s legs. GOOAALL!!! I was over the moon to score the goal of this tense final, but the game wasn’t over, Shefford and Sandy started with great determination but everyone helped defend and with one final clearance… we won! Onto the Olympic stadium. The medal ceremony was filled with cheers, photos and achy cheeks. It was great.
The build up to the Olympic stadium was filled with nerves and excitement. We had one very tense training session. We all were told to take it easy for the next few days so as not to risk injuring ourselves. I also felt very lucky and showed off a bit at school.
Before I knew it Sunday had arrived. My Dad and I woke up at the crack of dawn to leave because we had to drive all the way to London. I slept on the drive there and when we arrived, I was speechless - the stadium looked incredible, as I looked around in awe. There were parents sitting in the stands and players practicing. I took a deep breath and ran over to where my team were practicing.
The first game we lost but it was incredibly close. The next we lost again (4-2) but I scored – win? The whole team felt like the journey was over but decided to go all out in the next game. We stepped onto the pitch meaning business. The game started and I immediately tackled the ball from the opposition and skilled past one player and passed the ball away. The ball was passed back and I scored. GOAL! 1-0 to us. We scored again then they scored (2-1 to us) all of this in the first five minutes. The rest of the game was filled with a series of close calls and near misses. The final whistle blew, and we all had mixed emotions. Our journey was over. The end of the tournament and we finished sixth.
I have to say it was different losing. I should have enjoyed every moment and been proud of how far we had come.

Ada meets Lady Lavinia
Ada was feeling confident. Her father had explained there was a new guest, which was unusual for her father. She crept quietly along the damp corridor clutching her cold candlestick engraved with her mother’s initials P.G.
“Halt! Who goes there?” an extremely attractive voice yelled. Ada jumped. Who would be walking around at midnight? Then, out of the blackness, a lady appeared.
“My name is Lady Lavinia, child. And WHAT do you think you’re doing here?” she hissed angrily. Her eyes glowed like the night on her pale, translucent face and her ebony hair was let loose. She was evil. She was clever too, which scared Ada. She wore far too much makeup and her face dripped with it, especially her thin, sour lips covered in black lipstick. She looked sly, and she explained casually how she stole her necklaces from her sister. Ada was shocked. Lady Lavinia also had an inky black handbag with matching jet-black pearls which was her mother’s. She looked sad when she said it and Ada wondered if it was her imagination or not but did this lady have the same problem with her mother? Perhaps she wasn’t so bad underneath. She started dabbing some blush on her white nose and she went back to her carefree self. Her long black fingernails dug into Ada’s skin and she obviously loved painting them black like the sky. Her clothing was very tidy and slim, making her look and act flirty. Little ghosts followed her everywhere because they were her servants. Suddenly, the candle flashed and went out. Ada screamed but soon found her lips being closed as Lady Lavinia closed her fingers together. Then she rummaged around in herhandbag and brought out one of her many spray bottles. She used the perfume labelled. “Ew, Dew Vampire De Perfume” which smelled like rotten eggs and dead fish.

Ada grimaced and personally hated the smell. She wanted to tell this lady exactly what she thought of her.

The Roundabout Skiing Holiday
I haven’t been for three years. We usually go to France, but we couldn’t go there this year, so we went to Italy, but you had to get a covid test sadly, but we were with friends as well, so ‘yay!’.
In the morning we had to go to get a covid test ‘I hate them mum’, I said but we got them, and it was as quick as a flash then we had to do some extra packing ,like always my brother was jumping off the walls he was so excited to fly to Italy.
Then we got to the airport, and we suddenly got on the plane because us and our friends were almost the only people there. When we got there, I was so tired, but we had to go on a two-hour road trip. We eventually got to the hotel, and I fell asleep straight away.
The next morning (yawning) we got up and I got dressed to ski and we then had breakfast and went to the ski hire shop to get our skis. Next to get a cable car up to the top of the mountain.
We went to ski school our teacher was called Pablo, he was nice. It was so exciting because I was on the highest level of ski school -gold. I had so much fun but when it finished my dad came running to me saying ‘Isabella your mum has injured her leg badly ‘ he then rushed my mum to the hospital!
Later I was upset about what happened so everybody said ‘ Let’s go to have lunch’ that made me happy again and my mum soon called saying that she was okay. We then did some more runs and had a great day with a party in the night.
Have you ever been skiing?

The Day from Hell!
It was the day all my family was dreading, except my dad, he couldn’t wait. The day we had to leave the Lake District to drive home.
Fist I woke up to my dad shouting “WAKE UP!” my sisters replied back “Ok” in a kind of ‘I’m not gonna’ do that’ voice. The dogs were howling at each over and my mum was searching for a hair clip. I woke up, made my bed, and packed my bag. Then I got dressed and brushed my teeth.
Once everyone was ready, we had to pack the car, the worst! You never would know if you would get your bag in the car. One of the bags hit me in the nose, my sisters were rushing to get their bags in, but I got in before them. It was a time of anger in our house. Have you ever been in that situation?
We finally left, in a car full of bags. Any second, they could fall. My dad did his boring thing of going to Costa and putting rubbish away. While we drove back you could see the landscape, less hilly and not as many animals. We stopped off ONCE in a five-hour journeyit was basically torture. You had to train to survive in the car.
We finally got home, running upstairs to put bags away. Then –‘Jamie come and do this ‘ and ‘Jamie do that’ then ‘Jamie, one more thing’, (I heard that one around ten times). The dogs were running places they shouldn’t, then I had finally finished unpacking.
We finished the day with some pizza then went to bed. My mum never found the hair clip in the end. That was the day from hell.
