Creating strategic integrated experiences that connects a brand to their target audience is a powerful combination of the expected and unexpected. A major factor in the delivery at large events is to create a solution that is authentic and representative of the brand from initial concept through to installation.
As one of the world’s leading Champagne houses, Bollinger is famous for its consistency of style, structure and aromatic complexity. Which is why we were thrilled when they asked us to help them set up both temporary bars and roving bicycle bars at three major events they sponsor: Royal Ascot, The Boat Race and the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
We designed and installed both an indoor and outdoor champagne bar at Royal Ascot which retained the iconic, luxury feel affiliated with Bollinger, in conjunction with the Bollinger bicycle which was designed, printed and installed by us for an interactive and immersive element. Carefully considering opulent hues, custom-made features and premium finishes, we utilised each space to create bars that stood out from the crowd and increased brand awareness.
Through innovative design, bespoke build and creative production, we were able to bring the concept to life on time, on budget and on brand. We supported this with digital production in the form of an edited advert to fit Royal Ascot’s specifications which was played on the day to raise further awareness and large-format print to create a sense of ubiquity which still continues with our work with Bollinger today.

Event bars are an integral part of any event and are all bespoke and specifically exclusive to each client’s requirements. By creating a carefully thought out experience that engages with customers in a unique environment, brands can elevate their awareness and interact with customers on a distinctive level.
When one of the longest established Champagne houses, Ayala, approached us to create a high-quality centre piece in the form of a temporary bar at Royal Ascot, we were more than happy than to assist. We explored visions and ideas with our client and used our experience to bring their bar to life in a way that excited and raised awareness with customers.
Every component was carefully considered to encompass the brand’s sophisticated and refined identity, and we successfully produced areas that welcomed visitors to bask in the opulence of the champagne bar during their day at the races. As with all our briefs, we support our clients and recommend the best ways they can utilise their space for promotional opportunities.
With tried and tested methods, when we install temporary bars we ensure that stability and quality is at the core of the project.
Offering assistance with both the build and de-rig, we keep everything under one roof, making the process seamless for our clients. We understand that meticulous planning is the cornerstone to any successful campaign which is why we offer our clients a one-stop creative service to exceed their expectations.

Arsenal Football Club
With so much money involved in modern football, there has never been as much pressure on elite clubs to succeed. With such fine margins between success and failure, and competition so intense, football clubs have increasingly embraced psychology in the pursuit of competitive advantage.
The environments that the players prepare in, from the changing room to the tunnel, can be vital to their focus and positivity. So, it was no surprise that when it came to the renovation of these areas, the stakeholders involved ranged from the boardroom to the dug-out. At Datum, we were delighted to be part of the team that delivered the project for such a premium brand.
It was also a valuable learning experience that has given us unique insights into the nuances of producing and installing imagery for football clubs. It was vital that the club’s star players were featured in the designs wearing that season’s new kit. However, when you have a transfer window that extends into the start of the season it is impossible to know the final line-up until the window closes. That means flexible designs, rapid turnaround and hastily arranged photoshoots.
The stadium environment itself was also a challenge. Clearly, we couldn’t work on match-days, but the stadium is always busy with workers as well as around 2,000 visitors enjoying a guided tour. We had to work around this to ensure minimal disruption as well as a great experience for paying guests. Then there was the need to consider the physical demands that would be put upon the installations. Before the game and during intervals, players need to warm up and kick balls around the changing room.

Charlton Athletic Football Club
In common with all professional football clubs, Charlton Athletic relies on multiple income streams to help balance the books. A key element of this is the revenue that can be generated through the hiring out of corporate hospitality spaces. A day out at the match with a few drinks and a nice meal
When the club decided that the hospitality areas needed upgrading, we were delighted to be part of the project. We produced and installed high quality wall coverings that hero the iconic Charlton Athletic brand. We took it beyond the hospitality areas and into the shared corridors and trophy room delivering a consistent, premium look and feel designed to impress visitors and inspire staff and supporters.
Supporters, naturally, are the bedrock of any club and that is no different at Charlton Athletic. We produced and installed external wall coverings that feature club legends from throughout the club’s proud history. We installed these on what had previously been unattractive breeze block walls adjacent to the home supporter turnstiles. Now supporters can be inspired by images of the heroes of yesteryear who made Charlton Athletic the famous club it is today.
An added benefit is that supporters can pose for selfies alongside these images and share on social media, potentially inspiring new converts to come and find out what the match day experience is all about. Through our work on football-related projects we have gained valuable experience about the importance of getting the details right, protecting and projecting the club’s heritage but also deploying the latest techniques to get the right result. We are proud to have contributed to the continuing story of the club.

Canterbury Cathedral
The Canterbury Journey represents a major five year development of the Cathedral, designed to conserve and safeguard this beautiful building’s heritage for future generations and enrich the experience of those who visit. It’s an iconic project that we are proud to be part of.
It’s one of the most of the most well established and well-regarded religious buildings in the UK, and with almost one million visitors each year, it’s the number one tourist destination in Kent. With so much history and many visitors a restoration project began in 2017, so when we were approached to be part of the project we were equally awestruck and honoured.
Our role was to create a hoarding solution that would protect the integrity of the areas of the cathedral that were being restored but also be sympathetic to the expansive grounds. In just ten days we installed 300 Dibond panels using aluminium composite materials. In line with the cathedral, they needed to be of a high quality to stand the test of time whilst still showcasing the beauty of the building.
We wanted to ensure that the photography and content on the panels was engaging and aesthetically pleasing, all whilst considering the different angles and sightlines at play. We are delighted to have been part of such an iconic journey and proud that we were able to lend a helping hand to the restoration of the world-famous Canterbury Cathedral.
