Happiness is the only language of Quality क्वालिटी जो अपना बना िे। I was talking to a group of people about quality and explaining what was meant by 'happiness is the only language of quality'. These people belonged to a large company which is also a market leader. At first, it seemed to people that ‘happiness’ is very commonly used term and associating it with quality is just a punch line. To satisfy myself I asked them what they meant with happiness and how they relate it to their work and business. One replied that happiness is about health. If health is good, one is happy. Everything else can be created by healthy body and mind. I asked him if his father is less happy because as an old person and would be comparably less healthy. Quick answer came in "No". Health is not happiness because even old persons with not so well health can be happier than a person with robust health. Can money and power make one happy? Very less agreed with it because most of them were already very well paid executives and far from being happy. Some agreed that money, power and health are some of the conditions which if are not there, can make one unhappy. But sum of all these and other achievements also, cannot correctly define happiness. ‘Happiness’ became a sort of a mystery which they failed comprehending and have never thought deep enough; although, they all use the word very often, each day. Quality in product is also a myth. A highly sophisticated weapon will be sought after by Bin Laden but it is useless for Buddha. Choice of product is just a test kit for human character. Those interested in Bin Laden will make weapon and those in Buddha will not. Changes in goal, agreement, specification and product occur by changes in requirement and expectation in a continued search for meaning of the term ‘Quality’.
After some struggle, one came up with a suggestion that earning money, to maintain good health, use of power and choice of product are not for themselves but to protect or serve some ones they love. Family and children are source of happiness and, that only justifies having power and prestige, use of money and any success which act as a means to the cause. Similar is also a case in giving customers a right product which customer easily can afford. "Giving" in some way causes happiness and this idea can be a clue to discovery of meaning of "happiness". Finally, an answer came to all. They all felt enlightened that happiness is "oneness". A severely injured person when cared by family and friends feels happy by this oneness. People feel happy to return home because home is made by oneness. Soldiers can live in war field happily because of their oneness with the citizen. They least care with their bodies because happiness is far more important than defending own bodies. Before happiness, you forget all pleasure, all pain, all power and all wealth because happiness is neither of it, and nor is the sum of all of these. People causing divisions by complicated contracts or by legal methods or by use of force have difficult time to control it. But same people when start simplifying controls, develop trust instead and become less hostile, this change in their direction of thinking makes them happy. Probably, this is the only definition of happiness which can be said as universal, and applies to any business or work including developing product and customer relationship. Quality is therefore about ‘connecting people’ i.e., increasing friends and reducing enemies by choices of work and use of product as means to it. This "oneness" or happiness is also called Yog. Quality is the Yog, and all of us choose our work as means to this only goal ‘Quality Yog or Happiness, forever’.
