Curvy ladies rejoice! ELOQUII—a plus size clothing line that originally launched in 2011—has re-branded and officially started up again online. ELOQUII 2.0 continues to offer affordable fashions (ranging from $18 to $198) that are trendfocused and designed in-house. Thanks to private investor John Auerbach (a founding member of Gilt) the brand was able to relaunch a full six-month design cycle, with new items appearing online biweekly. Glee fans and fashion lovers alike were excited to find out that actress Amber Riley and her sister Ashley launched their own online clothing boutique. The aim of the website (aptly named RileyLand) is to help curvy girls find clothing that flatters their figure but also gives them great style. According to the “About” section on the site, there are quite a few brand new items, although there are also some “not-so-brand new items.” Currently, the stock is not very large (since it’s coming straight from the sisters’ closets), but an expansion is coming up in the future. Blonde bombshell and former American Idol contestant Carrie Underwood is succeeding actress Kate Hudson in representing beauty brand Almay as a new global brand ambassador, having already launched her ad and print campaigns for the new Shadow Softies eyeshadows. With some big name magazine contracts under her belt and a booming career, curvy model Ashley Graham is trying her hand at designing lingerie—and loving every minute of it. BY ASH KOWALEWSKI

Even with such a busy lifestyle, Graham manages to stay grounded and seems truly humbled about her collection with ADDITION ELLE, calling it a “dream come true.” Since she considers lingerie such an integral part of a woman’s outfit, it seemed natural that she chose lingerie over designing a clothing line. Graham explains that she thinks the face of the plus size modeling industry has changed so much over the past couple decades because now “there is a demand for it,” and “women are speaking up about what they want to see in fashion.” Over the past year, we have seen a shift with brands like Forever 21 and Old Navy making their collections more available, but Graham says she’d still love to see more mainstream brands putting out larger sizes. But, to her, even though “there is still a huge divide, the wall is slowly coming down.” .C A

traveling the world, experiencing different cultures and making a living all at the same time. I love my job and couldn’t see myself, right now, doing anything else.” What advice does she have for aspiring models? “You have to be ready to be on the go all the time. I’m barely home, but I love it!” Even though looks do matter when it comes to modeling, Graham maintains that “it’s not just about having a pretty face to book a job; a lot has to do with personality.” So for aspiring models out there, the energy you put out will have a large affect on your career too. While she thinks that the term “plus size” still has too many negative associations to it, Graham feels that no matter what you’re doing, you should be healthy from the inside out, which is why she does everything she can to keep her skin flawless, drinks “tons of water” and works out three to four times a week.

Having been discovered at the tender age of 12, she professes that this career sort of fell into her lap— but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t put in the work. Having just launched her second lingerie collection with ADDITION ELLE, the curvy brunette has made strides in her career and has no plans of stopping anytime soon. The Nebraska native has appeared in Vogue and Glamour, and even at her fresh twentysomething age has already had a controversial modeling gig (followed by an interview with Jay Leno)—though we here at DARE maintain the commercial was tastefully done and not the least bit scandalous. Now with several modeling contracts under her belt and another sexy spring ad campaign with ADDITION ELLE, Graham tells us what it’s been like to work as a plus size model and where she’s going from here. What are some important things to keep in mind when designing? The main question I have running through my mind while thinking of ideas is would I wear this? The Treatment
The Ganbanyoku (rock bathing) treatment involves lying on a heated rock bed (looks similar to a marble countertop) in a sauna-like room. Each rock bath is approximately an hour, including five minute intervals every 15 minutes or so, spent in the cool-down room where you’re advised to drinks lots of water to keep your body hydrated.
The Experience ASH’S TAKE: An out-of-the-box experience, different from any other spa treatment you’ll receive. While lying on a hard surface for an hour might not be ideal, your body feels so relaxed and somehow more energetic afterwards, it makes it all worth it. Before the treatment they told us that we would “sweat different” and I didn’t quite get what that meant until we went in—it’s totally worth the cash to find out for yourself! Also, any treatment that burns calories while laying down daydreaming is a winner in my book. JENNIFER’S TAKE: If you’re in the mood for some serious R&R, Iyashi should be at the top of your list. Perfect for a day with your girlfriends, an anniversary or just a getaway from a chilly spring day, Iyashi is the only Japanese rock bathing spa in Canada, and their signature Ganbanyoku will leave you refreshed and relaxed (like a day at the beach), versus sticky and sweaty (like after a workout). Spend the few extra dollars and splurge for the deluxe suite. More square footage than your average Toronto apartment. You’ll never want to leave.

Since each skin treatment is adapted to you, your skin type and concerns, the time taken to get to know you and your skin needs is much welcomed. A great change from some of the rushed places that try to cram several appointments into a day, the entire hour is devoted to the client and they make sure you have everything you need and then some. JENNIFER’S TAKE: Pause might not be the biggest or the fanciest spa in town, but owner Michelle really knows what it means to open a cozy, friendly neighbourhood spa. I was impressed with Pause’s use of all-natural products and their positive attitude towards beauty and wellness. What really stands out is their attention to detail: a personalized spa experience (oils and products suited to fit your personality, career and body), the music (not your typical waterfall spa tunes) and genuine interest in your skin, health and well-being.
