“The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” ~ Thucydides

S HUMANS WE find ourselves in a difficult position. The moment we become even remotely aware of our enslaved state in this world we long for liberation and freedom. For many of us who truly realize our state of servitude, we crave deep down to be free from resentfulness, grudges, traumas, mistrust, entitlement complexes, reactiveness, depression, expectations, desires, ideals, standards, self-judgment, and most importantly free from fear. Our souls secretly feel ashamed: we want to have wings and we want to fly – but we realize how grounded and imperfect we are, yet we still intuitively know that we can be free. The reality is that this problem has perpetuated itself throughout history, and since the dawn of time. Every man and every woman in every culture has searched for freedom. But freedom from what? And freedom towards what? And most of all: what really is true freedom?

What Is Freedom? “People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.” ~ Søren Kierkegaard When you ask most people what they would define as freedom they will most likely answer something along the lines of: “Freedom is to be able to do whatever you want” as in the stereotypical depiction of free spirits. Have you ever stopped to think about this interpretation of freedom? If everyone really did whatever they wanted this would

Some people think of freedom solely as a liberation from external forces like political systems. But not truly be freedom – this would be chaos this is only one and anarchy. Why? Because everyone has a kind of enslavement! In reality, there are different idea of what they want in life, and three types of freedom: physical freedom, while one thing might benefit another person, psychological freedom and spiritual it might impair or completely destroy the life freedom. of another. On one hand, our physical enslavement Deep down we know that freedom is that which relates to our external bodies. has to do with what is ‘right’, or in other We might be in chains or behind bars, words, what benefits everyone, whether the we might be held captive and tortured as individual or the collective. prisoners of war. We might be in a country But how can we know what is ‘right‘? that holds our race or gender as inferior like Religions have tried to use morality systems ancient China where women were seen as as life guidelines but as we have seen, this property and you had all the legal right to kill hasn’t been very effective. To be free to do them if you wanted. ‘what is right’ we have to first be able to Our psychological enslavement, on the cultivate the maturity and wisdom to be other hand, is something we are often not aware of the consequences of our actions. even aware of. At a young age, for instance, To be free we must become responsible we were taught cultural ideologies of a human beings – but yet most of us just want political, social and religious nature, and irresponsibility. throughout our lives we adopted them as the People continue to talk about freedom, “absolute truths” in our versions of reality. but we don’t want freedom, what we want We also developed beliefs about ourselves, is to be licentious. Unless your freedom can sometimes delusionally grand, and other help you go higher than you were before times grossly warped such as the convictions – to grow in spirit, compassion, gratitude, that we are lazy, ugly, unintelligent or unity and forgiveness – then your freedom unworthy. and our authenticity. Our countries will tell us that we are free, but most of the time they are only referring to physical freedom or psychological freedom in the form of freedom of speech and thought. But true freedom, spiritual freedom, is to be free in thought and free in soul. Only then can we be authentically true to ourselves. We like to blame our governments, our religions, our parents, our teachers and our societies, but the truth is that we limit our own freedom by not being aware and responsible for our thoughts, feelings, decisions and behaviors.

Freedom + Awareness “We seek retreats for ourselves, houses in the country, seashores, mountains. But … we have in our power to retire into ourselves. For there is no retreat that is quieter and freer from trouble than our soul … perfect tranquility, the right ordering of mind.” ~ Marcus Aurelius We need to be aware that we aren’t, in fact, free, before we can pursue freedom. The first and last step towards personal freedom is complete awareness. When Friedrich Nietzsche said: “God is dead and man is free” he was attempting to liberate himself from enslavement to his beliefs. He was stating that, while there was a God that lived, man could never be free, as that would merely turn us into puppets. Where we ever asked to be created, and do we ever have a say in our destruction? How can we possibly be free if we are both victims of our births and our deaths? But Nietzsche’s words were misinterpreted by many (as is usually the case), and in doing so, those that rebelled against ‘God’ enslaved themselves even

Given 3 Days to Live by Doctors, This Mom Secretly Saved Her Son’s Life With Cannabis

OTH ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE and clinical research are beginning to show the promise of cannabis in treating a variety of health issues. According to one family in the U.K., cannabis helped a dying teenage boy recover fully from complications from leukemia. The family appeared on the British talk show, This Morning, to discuss their experience. Callie Blackwell’s son Deryn had been fighting leukemia followed by Langerhans cell sarcoma for four years — since the age of ten. Following doctors’ fourth and final attempt at a bone marrow transplant, they warned the family it was the last opportunity to save his life. Though the surgery was successful, Deryn’s mother says he contracted an infection in the hospital. He grew extremely ill, and according to Callie, “He was literally being kept alive by antibiotics. That’s what they told us.” Doctors estimated he had three days to a week left to live following the turbulent aftermath of his transplant. Deryn says he was ready to give up and had started planning his funeral. “After four years of treatment, it [was] enough,” he told This Morning. In the meantime, however, his mother had been researching cannabis treatments. She says she kept hearing about it through word of mouth. However, because his cancer was technically already gone – he was succumbing to complications in the form of hand and stomach issues — she didn’t think it was a viable option. I Secretly Gave My Son Cannabis to Save His Life www.youtube.com/ watch?v=qqvJOAV7oAc

Cannabis has been found, at least

in preliminary laboratory testing, to shrink cancer cells. This early research is increasingly backed up by anecdotal evidence. Still, Callie didn’t think it applied and rejected cannabis as a potential treatment. “The cancers [were] gone,” she said. “This [was] now a completely different issue. I would dismiss it and dismiss it.” Nevertheless, Deryn remained sick and in hospice care, taking large doses of fentanyl, the strongest opiate painkiller on the market. He was still expected to die. Callie asked doctors about Bedrocan, a cannabis-based pain relief product popular in Europe. “I wanted to go through the proper measures,” she said. However, she doctors told her it wasn’t an option because it hadn’t been approved for use in children. That’s when she decided to obtain cannabis illegally and give it a chance. “He’s dying anyway,” she said. Deryn, too, was open to the alternative treatment. “I was happy to [try it],” he said. The New York Daily News explains that Deryn’s parents “met with a dealer to buy marijuana. They then found a recipe online that showed them how to turn it into

a liquid form so they could give it to their teenage son.” Callie clarified on This Morning that they did not use CBD (cannabidiol) or THC oil, the oils currently gaining popularity for treating everything from Parkinson’s disease to epilepsy to anxiety — and potentially cancer. Rather, they simply used a tincture. “The effects of it blew my mind. It wasn’t what I expected,” she said. Within half an hour to an hour, Deryn, who had been overcome with anxiety over his impending death, “was chilled out, just relaxed.”

Deryn’s condition improved not just emotionally, but physically. For example, when doctors removed bandages from his hands, expecting little to no progress, his fingers showed signs of recovery. Further, doctors had warned that his white blood cell count would remain nonexistent, but after just five days of taking cannabis — 75 days after his final bone marrow transplant — they returned. “All of a sudden his white count [had] appeared. Doctors were running around frantically” to do more testing, Callie said, though she added that at that time, Deryn’s

white blood cell count was still very low. To test the effectiveness of the tincture, Callie says she withdrew the treatment and the white blood cell count “started to go down again.” Though Callie made it clear that she doesn’t endorse cannabis as a treatment that will cure cancer or work for everyone who tries it, she has no regrets about giving it to her son. Experts are optimistic about the potential of cannabis, though they caution it is difficult to discern exactly what dynamic helped restore Deryn’s health, noting it could have been something entirely separate from cannabis that spurred his recovery. Further clinical research is needed to tease out exactly what alleviated his symptoms, as well as what causes such positive results in other patients who find success with cannabis. As far as cancer is concerned, there is a great deal of uncertainty, as well as promise. “There have been lots of studies looking at the effect of cannabis on cells growing in the lab, but that’s been quite mixed, it seems to have had different effects on different types of cancer cells,” says Emma Smith, science information manager for Cancer Research U.K., as reported by the Independent. For now, it remains illegal in the U.K. and many parts of the world. As one This Morning host interjected, “Anyone using the drug for any reason could be charged with possession.” For Deryn’s parents, the risk was worth it. Deryn now aspires to open his own vegan restaurant. In his own words, he’s “Perfectly healthy. My white blood [cells] are all normal.” By Carey Wedler / Creative Commons / Anti-Media

“Not everyone has a destiny; only the hero who has plunged to touch it, and has come up again ~ with a ring.” ~ Joseph Campbell

ESTINY IS A tricky thing. It’s both searching for you (organically and energetically) and sought by you (subconsciously or consciously). But for most people there is a thick cloudy wall erected between them and their destiny. There’s a threshold or a crossroads of some sort that must be passed or overcome. But most people never gain the wherewithal to even reach that point, let alone to have a deep experience of destiny. Why is this? Analyzing Campbell’s quote can help us figure it out… Only a hero, someone with courage—whether that courage is going on a great adventure, questioning belief structures, challenging authority, or facing your fear—will be able to experience destiny. But there must be risk involved. There must be some sort of adventure. There must be a stretching of one’s comfort zone. There must be an upsetting of one’s settled mind. That’s the “plunge.” Having plunged into the depths, having taken the leap of courage into the unknown and heeded the call to adventure, one is then prepared to discover. “The ring” is the symbol for this discovery. It represents sacred knowledge, deep philosophy, magic elixir It can just as easily be symbolized as a secret cloak, a mysterious sword, an enchanted book, a keystone strategy, or a philosopher’s stone. Each destiny will be different, unique according to the individual’s imagination, personality, and overall disposition However, the secret to living life to the nth degree and discovering your destiny from the magic elixir, is not to cling to any symbol, ideology or knowledge gained along the way. This is the critical point where an examined life becomes a destiny (or where it fails to become a destiny). Clinging leads to close-mindedness. It prevents open-minded examination. It cuts off the hero’s seeking energy. It ends the journey. And if you’re attempting to live to the nth degree, the journey must be the thing. The trick—to remaining fluid, flexible and adaptable—is not to get caught up in the delusions of the journey, but to strategically question them instead. If, as Scott Adams said, “The human mind is a delusion generator, not a window to truth,” it stands to reason that some people are more delusional than others. Those who are more delusional are the ones caught up in their delusions. But some are less delusional than others; they are the ones questioning their delusions. As far as allowing the journey to be the thing, living to the nth degree, and keeping one’s destiny fluid, adaptable and dynamic, the difference between questioning rather than clinging to delusions is vital. Let’s break it down…

Avoid getting caught up in your delusions “When emptiness is possible, everything is possible. Were emptiness impossible, nothing would be possible.” ~ Nagarjuna There’s an old African proverb: “When Death finds you, may it find you alive.” This means alive without permission. Free and full, not tied down and empty. Living your own life rather than one scripted by society, religion or politics. Yet, and here’s the rub, even “the ring” can become a script that becomes an ideology. Even symbols can become limiting and dogmatic. Especially if they were discovered on somebody else’s plunge. Our cultures are chock full of symbols and “rings” that heroes of the past discovered on their own plunge into the unknown. It’s critical that you do not allow these discoveries to prevent you from taking your own plunge. That was their destiny not yours. Scour them for information. Soak in the depths of their wisdom. Stand on the shoulders of giants. But don’t cling. Don’t get caught up in the hype. Don’t allow their destiny to prevent your own. Rather, use their destiny to invigorate your own hero’s journey.

Destiny From this page

The art of living life to the nth degree hinges upon not getting caught up in delusions—whether yours or someone else’s. Every thought, every belief, every symbol, “ring,” or ideology discovered (dreamed up) by mankind is a delusion. The only thing that makes some delusions less delusional than others is questioning them rather than relying on them as answers.

Question your delusions instead “Never relinquish your ability to doubt, reflect, and consider other options –your rationality as an individual is your only protection against the madness that can overcome a group.” ~ Robert Greene When you question your delusions, you keep your destiny organic and fluid. You keep it flexible and adaptable. The journey is maintained and remains the thing. An examined life, lived to the nth degree, endures. When you don’t question your delusions, however, your destiny becomes stagnant or it becomes someone else’s journey. The “answers” you’ve found become prison bars to your destiny. You become stuck, entrenched in believing you’ve “made it” or that you’ve “become enlightened” or that your “way” is the way. In short: you have become dogmatic. You have neglected to “kill the Buddha on the path.” Questioning your delusions is paramount. Not only because it directly keeps your destiny in perspective, but because it also indirectly keeps “the tribe” in check. Without someone (a hero) who can question their own delusions first, and their tribe’s delusions second, there can only be close mindedness and dogmatism. It is vital for your destiny (and for the progressive evolution of our species) that you not only gain the courage of the hero, take the plunge, and discover a “ring,” but that you also question your discoveries along the way. Question the “answers.” Question the “ring.” Self-overcome. Question everything, but especially the symbols and ideologies discovered along the way. And especially-especially the symbols and ideologies discovered by others—past or present. Don’t get me wrong. Relish in your discoveries. Get drunk on the magic elixir. Have fun seeing how the “answers” fit into reality (or how they don’t fit). Stand on the shoulders of giants. Enjoy the journey and all its delicious sojourns. Just continually question it. Don’t cling to it. Don’t get stuck. Don’t lose sight of the big picture. Don’t let the Buddha, or anyone for that matter (especially yourself), convince you that you’ve “made it.” Don’t forget: in order to live life to the nth degree you must question to the nth degree and allow the journey to be the thing. Shadows of Life

HE GRAND ILLUSION is we are all separate from each other. The greater deception is we are alienated from ourselves. Knowing, expressing and being our self in contemporary society has become a dangerous endeavor. One that is often greeted with conflict, indifference and hostility. We become aware of our dependence on social reality as we awaken. Beyond our senses and perceptions are authentic experiences that transform our lives from routine to remarkable. However challenging it may seem to manifest them, every moment provides an opportunity to transcend the mundane and become all that is possible.

Ties that Bind

Physical, mental and emotional attachment tethers us to our personal life sentence. Our egos, fears, insecurities and pride enable our immersion in a domain of existence lived by most yet revered by few. Our family and social programming establishes our fixed opinions, stimulated by education, politics and religion. We are condemned to a common fate endured by countless generations. It feels like the weight of the world is upon us because it is how we are conditioned. Our experiences and perceptions are socially designed to distract, intimidate and overwhelm us under the threat our own fear.

Fifty Shades of Fear

It is not the initial fright we experience that impacts us most. It is the anxiety and distress that comes before and after. The moment rarely ever paralyzes us. It is our natural tendency to amplify and exaggerate our fear to epic proportions. If we possess the power to intimidate ourselves into antiquated social engagements and responsibilities, then we can apply the same energy to shift our experience and empower our life. It is a simple choice either to allow our fear to dishearten us or our love to inspire us. The quality of our focus, intent and purpose is how we manifest our personal power.

energy. Whether or not we choose to acknowledge and express it is entirely up to us. Some selfishly use their power to sustain their survival and satisfy insatiable desire. Few graciously express theirs to make a difference in service to others. Most have long abandoned this opportunity because the potential benefits simply do not warrant their focus and effort. Our dormant personal power cultivates the seeds of our apathy, cynicism, denial and resignation. Left unrefined, it becomes envy, judgments, resentment and toxicity.

Revelation in Darkness Wisdom is not found in the light. Our darkest encounters provide the most powerful opportunities to evolve, progress and transform. It takes an exodus from reality, reason, sense and understanding to reveal insights that exist beyond our contemporary vision. Becoming present to something distinct from what has been and is requires us to release all that no longer serves us, creating a field of possibility within for all that will. Only when we delve into the mysterious unknown of our potential do we unravel the complexities of our selective reality to reveal and embody our true being.

Filters of Perception

Our eyes are not our own. Social stimuli conditions our viewpoints to reflect what is seen, not who we are. Our lives are a cascade of constant medium vying for our attention and energy. Whenever something traumatic happens to us, we defensively adopt and/ or invent perceptual screens through which we view people and experiences. We instinctively apply so many filters, we no longer see reality and society for what it is, only how we believe it should be. Insights and visions are elusive to us because we are attempting to realize them through a kaleidoscope of illusion.

The Truth about Truth

What is true is both personal and subjective. It is a singular path offering solitary enrichment, enlightenment and fulfillment. All of which is experienced through our own actions, thoughts, feelings, intuition and universality. No two truths are the same. Social reality will always deceive us into adopting and applying the beliefs and lifestyles of others. Our essence sources, progresses and transforms our unique evolution. Who, how and why we are - is a manifestation of our choices and experience. Our creativity is an expression of our truth. Living our truth is how our soul transforms our reality.

Whether we are at cause or effect in our lives, they are an opportunity for creativity. Becoming who we were meant to be is the definitive exhibition of our originality. It is our distinct and vital contribution to our lives and

Distortion of Power

In the Center

Our existence is a creation of our being. It is a synthesis of our actions, thoughts, feelings, insights and essence. Being in the center of our experience is an alignment between the universe and our soul, intuition, heart, mind and body. This synergy evolves

and transforms our being. When we become the epicenter of our own alchemy, we are a multi-dimensional expression of energy. Our focus, intention and purpose create our experience. We claim our personal power with our choices, creativity, truth and vision. The opportunity to exist at the center of our being gives us the possibility to be as infinite as the universe. “The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that its center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.” – Black Elk

Universal Essence

The energy of consciousness is the soul of creation. It is what connects everything in every dimension. Without it, there is little understanding of or relation with our selves, others or the universe. Creative expression, evolution and transformation are the foundations of our being. These elements empower us to fulfill our destiny beyond our imagination. It is not what we bring to the universe that manifests the extraordinary. It is how we allow the universe to guide and inspire us that transforms our experience. When we live and trust in the universe, our being transcends the paradigm of social reality.

T MAY COME AS little surprise, but as it turns out, smartphones aren’t actually making our lives easier. Whether it’s the constant pinging of notifications vying for our attention, the temptation of playing around on our phones at all hours of the day, the blue light of LED screens degrading our eyesight and sleep patterns, the inexorable growth of a culture of distraction, or the mounting proof that social media can make our lives miserable, the evidence has grown irrefutable that we should probably re-evaluate our dependence on our smartphones. As it turns out, there is a simple reason underlying the problematic nature of our phones. They chronically raise our levels of cortisol–the main hormone related to stress in our bodies–and in so doing, our health is threatened and our life spans are shortened. While most of the conversation surrounding the biochemical effects of phones has revolved around dopamine– the brain chemical connected to habits, which smartphone and app developers have exploited to feed our dependency and behavioral addictions–the relation of our phones to cortisol is even more shocking. As journalist Catherine Price, author of How to Break Up With Your Phone, wrote for the New York Times: “Cortisol is our primary fight-or-flight hormone. Its release triggers physiological changes, such as spikes in blood pressure, heart rate and blood sugar, that help us react to and survive acute physical threats. These effects can be lifesaving if you

Page 6

D

itching Your Smartphone May Actually Help You Live Longer

are actually in physical danger — like, say, you’re being charged by a bull. But our bodies also release cortisol in response to emotional stressors where an increased heart rate isn’t going to do much good, such as checking your phone to find an angry email from your boss.” Now it’s one thing if the occasional notification sends our cortisol levels upwards due to some phone-related issue—but it isn’t that simple. In the case of the average American—and increasingly, people across the globe—an average of four hours a day is spent staring into the “black mirror” of our smartphones, which are kept within arm’s reach at all times. And while many of us jump for joy when we receive the latest phone, tablet, or phablet, even Google reports that these “mobile devices loaded with social media, email and news apps” create “a constant sense of obligation, generating unintended personal stress.” And keep in mind that the four hours aren’t one solid block of consecutive time, but are stretched and spread throughout the day—constantly spiking our cortisol levels and causing stress even when we anticipate a stressful notification. David Greenfield, professor of clinical

psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and founder of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction, told the Times: “Your cortisol levels are elevated when your phone is in sight or nearby, or when you hear it or even think you hear it … It’s a stress response, and it feels unpleasant, and the body’s natural response is to want to check the phone to make the stress go away.” The result? Increased risk factors for a range of serious problems including but not limited to depression, type 2 diabetes, heart attacks, dementia, high blood pressure, stroke, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and fertility issues. Robert Lustig, emeritus professor in pediatric endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco, and author of The Hacking of the American Mind, noted: “Every chronic disease we know of is exacerbated by stress … And our phones are

absolutely contributing to this.” Additionally, the constant elevation of cortisol levels packs a powerful punch that impairs our prefrontal cortex–that crucial part of the brain we rely on for trusty decisionmaking and rational thought–degrading our self-control and pushing us toward doing normally counter-intuitive or dangerous activities like texting while driving. So what can we do to break the cycle, as Catherine Price–the “Marie Kondo of smartphones”–frames the question? How can we reduce those “phantom vibrations” and quick-draw reflexes that accompany the sound of a notification that may not even come from our own device? Here are a few tips: n Turn off all notifications besides those we actually want to receive. n Evaluate which apps we check out of anxiety, and which actually benefit us. Delete, hide or silence the apps as needed. n Take regular breaks, such as day-long digital sabbaticals. n Become more mindful of when our addictions or cravings are dictating our phone usage. After all, maybe we can’t completely unplug from our phones due to the need of our work, our relationships, or our daily routines. But as Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield explains: “If you practice noticing what is happening inside yourself, you will realize that you can choose how to respond … We don’t have to be at the mercy of algorithms that are promoting the fear of missing out.”

Chocolate comes from the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree, whose name means “food of the gods” in Greek. By Janine Acero

P

eople from all over the world collectively consume more than three million tons of cocoa beans a year, according to the World Cocoa Foundation. Chocolate comes from the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree, whose name means “food of the gods” in Greek, an apt name for the most popular sweet treat in the world. Theobroma cacao is native to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins in South America. These tropical trees thrive in hot, humid places within about 20 degrees of the equator. Growers have established plantations in other regions including West Africa and Southeast Asia. Today, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil, to keep up with the growing demand for the sweet commodity. Cacao trees bear fruit that contains up to 50 seeds, or beans. Harvesting cacao seeds is done by hand because machines could injure the precious trees. Workers remove the pods when ripe, and open them with a machete. The seeds are placed in large fermentation trays that are stacked and covered in banana leaves, where they are left for two to seven days. The fermentation process produces the chocolate flavor and aroma. The fermented beans are then dried out in the sun. Workers turn them several times a day for three to five days to complete drying. The beans are then taken to the chocolate factory, where they are cleaned and debris is removed. The beans are roasted in large, rotating ovens. Roasting draws out the cocoa flavor of the beans. After roasting, the beans go into a winnowing machine, which cracks the beans and removes the hulls. The remaining part of the bean

is the nib, which then becomes the chocolate. The nibs are ground under a series of rollers, and eventually turn into a thick paste called chocolate liquor. This paste does not contain alcohol – that would be chocolate liqueur. Chocolate liquor is the main source of unsweetened baking chocolate. At this stage, the makers determine the type of chocolate being produced. The following are the types of chocolate: n

Unsweetened chocolate

n Bittersweet (extra dark) chocolate n Semisweet (dark) chocolate n Sweet chocolate n Milk chocolate n White chocolate

Why Chocolate Is Good For You Chocolate isn’t just a popular dessert, it also offers health benefits. Here are its three main health benefits; note that the following have been mostly associated with moderate consumption of chocolate.

Heart food – Cacao beans are full of phytonutrients, which act as antioxidants. Cacao beans are also rich in iron, copper, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus. Dark chocolate especially contains two to three times more beneficial flavanols because they lack additional sugars that are added to other types of chocolate. Studies suggest that eating an ounce of chocolate at least five times a week may help prevent the risk of heart attack and heart failure. Chocolate may also help prevent the development of atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), which increases the risk of heart failure, stroke and more. Brain food – Some studies have focused on chocolate’s ability to improve cognitive function. Studies suggest that those who ate a moderate amount of chocolate – on average, one chocolate snack a week, decreased their risk of cognitive decline by 40 percent over two years. Mood food – Chocolate is often associated with positive effects on mood, although this benefit remains debatable. According to the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science, chocolate contains substances that stimulate the brain such as anandamines, tyramine, and phenylethylamine. However, these substances were found in very low concentrations – too low to induce an antidepressant effect. Still, chocolate is known to induce a positive shift in mood, especially when you eat some after a stressful day. Find out more feel-good benefits of chocolate at Chocolate.news. Karmic Relationships, Soul Mates, & the Importance of Finding Your Purpose

I

By Laura Matsue lauramatsue.com

SEE MORE THAN anything in my friends, in my own life, and in popular culture that people are stuck in the same toxic relationship patterns. They meet someone new and when the romantic haze and phase of idealization wears off and they are faced with their “sh*t”, instead of taking responsibility for what happened, they blame the relationship’s problems on the other person or an entire gender. Yes, we live in a time where we are deep in the illusion of separation. Yes, relationships are increasingly hard these days because people are becoming more and more disconnected from themselves. But there are people out there who deeply want a true love relationship, and in order to find them, we need clear what’s in the way within us so that we can wholeheartedly receive this kind of love. Often, I see within mainstream culture that both men and women will blame their relationship problems on the world outside of them instead of facing the wounds that than for real companionship and intimacy. attract them to certain people. They say But what I discovered after all those “all men are like this” or “all women are years of witnessing those patterns in myself like this” or that there simply aren’t the “right people” out there for them and project and in other people is that the number one reason why anyone keeps getting involved their disappointment outwards by making with emotionally unavailable people is excuses which can’t be resolved, as any because they hold a subconscious belief that externalized relationship issue leaves the responsibility on the world changing and not they are unworthy of love, so this wound in them gravitates towards people who will not themselves. They perpetuate this wound of be able to give them the love they desire as a separation by not uniting their fragmented way of affirming itself that this internal belief parts within. is true. I discovered this because the more I For many years, I lied to myself too. I worked on my childhood wounding (mainly felt that I was so emotionally available and around so loving and abandonment the problems I and not experienced in feeling “good my relationships enough”) the were mostly more I simply because I wouldn’t attracted be attracted the ‘wrong to people people’. You will not be left “f*ckgirl” myself — I was leading people on in order to get validation and attention, rather guessing, interpreting their actions, trying

Page 8

to decode what certain words/texts mean, wondering what level of commitment they have to the relationship, or guessing how they feel. It will be very clear – because when a person is ready, emotionally available, and wants to be with you, they will naturally step up. If you or them are ‘on the fence’ or giving mixed signals constantly, then it’s likely that they (or you) are either emotionally unavailable or they (or you) don’t want to be in the relationship currently, or long term. It’s possible that it’s mutual and deep down inside you both know that it’s not the right time or it’s not the right match. Facing the truth of situations like these as fast as possible and ending them appropriately saves us a lot of time/energy and gives us the space to welcome in true connection. Once we let go of these emotionally consuming entanglements, it gives us time to create a deeper understanding of our knowledge of ourselves — and we can use that selfknowledge to create deeper relationships with the people around us. I had to get truly sick of dating certain people to learn to say no to these patterns and take time to work on my stuff, and it was then I realized that all along I was the emotionally unavailable person, the common denominator was me, and as long as I didn’t know how to generate love within myself I would continue to seek out people who couldn’t or didn’t know how to love me. It was me who was unwilling to give myself self-love and acceptance and therefore I went seeking for this externally. Once we are willing to face our situation and work on finding ways to heal, love and accept ourselves, our whole life becomes a movement of a celebration of that love. When this happens, the people that we attract into our lives will change drastically. Another realization I had was big: I was using these relationships to distract me from the content of my own life. I also noticed that this is quite common; often people who feel “stuck” in their lives or do not have any clue of their purpose exhaust their field of creative energy by distracting themselves with relationships and/or by creating endless dramas within these relationships. They allow the rollercoaster

of interpersonal emotions they are experiencing to serve as a cheap sense of entertainment when what their soul really cries for is inner fulfillment. The creative energy of love is wasted when they could be using it towards an act of love towards themselves and the whole world – by discovering themselves, their life purpose, and finding a way to bring the gift they have within themselves to that world. Facing our basic psychological wounds is crucial because until we gain an understanding of ourselves, investigate why we do things and where our “impulses” and grasping comes from, we are doomed to repeat karmic and ancestral patterns within our personal lives — while our own inner life and individual purpose suffers. It is only when we reach for higher aims within our human relationships, to ourselves and to others, that our life can take on its higher purpose as well. Looking back, I can see got into relationships all the time even though I wasn’t emotionally or spiritually mature enough to be in those relationships. There was nothing wrong with me, I was simply deeply wounded and disconnected from myself. There was also nothing “wrong’ with the people I fell for as well, as they were wounded too. But not all was lost, as all of these so-called “bad relationships” I thought I had were merely catalysts and purifying agents to prepare me to experience, accept, and recognize true love by holding a mirror up to the parts of myself that were still locked up, closed down, and didn’t know how to relate to myself or anyone, to begin with. On a soul level, not one of our relationships are mistakes or accidental. Every relationship is a mirror that we can use to see where we are at, where we need to heal, where we need to create boundaries and say no, and most importantly – where we need to love ourselves more. We need to

Your Presence is the Ultimate Energy Healer By Laura Matsue lauramatsue.com

HE MAJORITY OF humans carry an immense amount of pain in their bodies; often that which they are unaware of. This technologically and intellectually focused modern world is becoming more and more one in which we mostly live in our heads. This cuts us off from the subtler energies that continually arise in the body. We lean our heads forward and look at our screens – a movement which, over time, almost literally disconnects our head from our bodies, as our spinal column collapses forwards the vertebrae disconnects from its alignment, cutting us off from the kundalini life-force energy of our spine. Because of this disconnection, we then tend to (unconsciously) go seeking for situations that will resolve this pain somehow, however, from a soul level we often instead are led through time-consuming karmic journeys. Our suppressed pain leads us towards looking to find pain-relief outside of ourselves, as we wound-bond with people who we wishfully hope can heal these hurt and suppressed parts of ourselves. Through our desperation,

we may often end up heartbroken and disappointed; for even if we gain some momentary relief from the experience, we are ultimately led time and time again to the same lesson — that nothing outside of us

Alex Grey can truly relieve our suffering. It is a job that must be done from the inside out. What our suffering is really asking of us is Presence. Through the light of placing our own awareness in our bodies, we begin to realize that this physical vehicle that we reside in is a map of our past — a cumulation of feelings that haven’t been felt. The tension we hold onto in our bodies is made up of the memories and experiences that we have not yet let go of. Ironically, our inability to let go of these experiences in our bodies leads us into situations where we replay similar experiences to these original traumas. It’s hard to see if these replays are real or imagined as sometimes our embodied experience may feel discomfort from what is essentially a safe situation, because the trauma that is held in the body is in a constant state of post-traumatic stress, it’s fight or flight responses actively always expecting the pain of the past to repeat itself. The deeper we go into our bodies through spiritual practice or pure awareness, the

develop a relationship with our true self, not our external conditioned ego self. Our soul essence is yearning to be recognized, it is crying out to be allowed to feel what has been silenced by for years by our emotional suppression. It wants to be nurtured by our relationship with it so it can blossom into its fullest, most beautiful expression of itself. And no relationship will be the key to set our soul free — except the relationship we have with ourselves. “You have a greater destiny and a greater purpose. You must follow this pathway and not give it up for love or money, not for beauty, wealth or charm. If you do this, your life will be preserved, and you will be able to become strong and mature enough to engage with certain people with whom you share a greater destiny. You will find them, and they will find you. And you will be ready for one another.” ~Marshall Summers You will know when someone important walks into your life because your soul will recognize it immediately. more and more we realize that we hold onto every memory we have experienced. We hold onto memories in our muscles, our organs, even down in our bones; yes, even within our skeleton there is a feeling of tension that comes from these suppressed emotions, and these spaces where we hold on are where we are restricting our freedom to be embodied and present. At some point we may recognize that something energetically is off, and seek different “healers”; teachers, bodyworkers, reiki masters, therapists, etc. — hoping they can cure us, and it may help for a period. But any good healer can only bring attention to the suffering we are already experiencing but have been suppressing; and many are gifted at guiding us through this, and perhaps they may help bring us back into alignment by offering us important skills that can assist us —yet the permanent healing of our bodies comes

happened before, and has already happened. This is not a karma thing. You will know when someone important walks into your life because your soul will feel that it has already happened. This is where the mind likes to step in, “But I’ve just met them” “But remember what happened before with this other person” But each experience cannot be compared to any past experience, they all follow in a sequence that is perfectly designed. Every relationship you will enter was decided upon happen long before “you” came into the picture. You can resist, but you are only postponing. There are certain people you are meant to meet at perfectly timed moments. These relationships always have an expiration date in their physical world, but the bond your soul has with these souls is eternal. A part of you will know the second you meet these people, but you won’t know what that lesson is. But it needs to happen. So when you recognize these people, let them in, and let it happen. from our awareness of our emotions, our willingness to feel what comes up in each moment, and this can only be healed by giving our bodies constant Presence. Even the desire to constantly seek “healing” can be a distraction from our healing process. There is nothing outside of us which can bring the constant awareness of Presence back into our lives for us. Mastering the ability to stay present, in all experiences, is a full-time waking-life job that we must endeavor as we heal our own fragment of this experience of consciousness. Through our own awareness we also begin to “See” ourselves, and through this inner vision, we allow ourselves to experience true Love — true love experienced as the light of our own awareness. As we allow ourselves to become embodied, feeling into our bodies in response to different people, emotions, and stimulus – we allow ourselves to be truly SEEN and FELT — by the love of the awareness we have gifted ourselves. Health Canada is taking this stance even as Bayer-Monsanto has been losing court case after court case in the U.S. to juries awarding billions in damages to individuals harmed by the pesticide. Some 13,000 more cancer victims’ cases against BayerMonsanto await trial. The TEK Elders’ website (tekelders. weebly.com) states that “In Ontario, the forest management planning process begins with Crown approval for aerial spraying already in place.” There has never been any consultation with First Nations on this issue. As TEK Elder Raymond Owl has stated on the website, “The announcements for spraying are printed in local newspapers to say when and where – and that’s it. We are told by Health Canada that the chemicals are safe, not harmful to humans, yet we are witness to absolute destruction of natural habitat and ecosystems.”

IRST NATIONS IN Ontario have run out of patience. For 43 years, the forest industry has been conducting aerial spraying of glyphosate herbicide on Indigenous lands – a “rain of death” used in forest management practice that has slowly been killing off a wide range of animals, plants, fish and insects. First Nations have tried to stop this practice since the 1990s through a variety of measures including meetings with logging companies and government officials, protests and reports, but all to no avail. The “rain of death” keeps coming. Now, members of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) Elders of the North Shore of Lake Huron say they will be going to court to force the Canadian federal government to live up to Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. That treaty guarantees First Nations in the area the right to hunt, fish, gather berries and use plant medicines in traditional territories. The TEK Elders say that by allowing the aerial spraying to continue, the Trudeau government is violating this treaty and the Constitution Act of 1982, which reaffirms those rights. “We’re done waiting,” Raymond Owl, one of the founding members of TEK, told the press in April. [1] Formed in 2014, the TEK Elders group is comprised of Elders from 21 bands in the area. Sue Chiblow, a Garden River First Nation Councillor assisting the TEK Elders, has stated: “We went to the Ministry of Natural Resources and they said ‘well no we just issued the license so that’s not our problem; it’s Health Canada’s problem’ … So we went to Health Canada and they said ‘we don’t actually do the spraying;

ANNABIDIOL OR CBD, an important non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis and hemp plants, has been growing in popularity across the United States due to widespread reports of medical benefits for a variety of different ailments. CBD is especially popular because of its legal status, and because some people want the medicinal benefits of cannabis without the high. For people with joint and muscle pain, or even people with more serious conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia, CBD topical creams can be a great solution for the pain. According to research published in 2011, using cannabis or CBD could help treat the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Some medical patients have even been using THC or CBD infused bath bombs. Since THC bath bombs are not legal in all 50 states, we will show you how to make CBD bath bombs today! However, if you do want to make THC bath bombs, just use the same recipe, but replace CBD with THC, or add both!

absolutely necessary – usually amounts to less than 0.2 per cent of Ontario’s forested area in any given year … Health Canada recently re-evaluated the use of glyphosate, finding no unacceptable risks to human health or the environment when used as directed.” [3]

Creating a Monoculture

The forest industry across Canada (and in parts of Oregon and Washington) has relied on aerial herbicide spraying for more than 40 years, in line with its practice of clear-cutting, followed by replanting for monocultures. The purpose of the glyphosate and other herbicides is to wipe out the so-called “weed” species that start re-growing after clear-cutting. Those species include aspen, alder, birch, oak, maple, willow and other broad-leaf plants and shrubs – all considered of less commercial value than needle-leaf softwoods like Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir. It is important to fill the mold quickly so it doesn’t dry before forming together. 5.Leave the bath bombs inside the mold to dry for at least 24 hours. CBD is made from the hemp plant. More than 70 percent of the states in the country have passed laws legalizing industrial hemp production and farmers in more than 30 percent of states have taken part in producing industrial hemp, even with the threat of federal prosecution.

Although hemp was officially made illegal in 1970 as a part of the Controlled Substances Act, it was not considered as a viable source for most commercial merchandise throughout the 20th century as a result of cannabis prohibition. Prior to cannabis prohibition, hemp was used for a surprising number of industrial products, including most paper, fabric, textiles, and paints. Hammond told me by email, “the presence of dense ‘brush’ following logging is a sign of ecological degradation from logging, which is dominated by clear-cutting. There is nothing natural about clear-cutting,” he noted, but it is “the cheapest, fastest way to turn forests into money.” So after the clear-cutting, “natural processes activate restoration procedures for soil and microclimate, resulting in high densities of herbaceous and woody vegetation other than coniferous trees.” These so-called “weed” species “are vital for biological diversity, building soil nutrient capital, slowing the spread of wildfire, and [they are] superior to conifers in sequestering and storing carbon – an important forest assist in this climate change world,” Hammond told me. The irony is that “conifers will emerge from under the other vegetation and will grow better over time than those trees where ‘competing vegetation’ was removed” by aerial spraying. But, noted Hammond, “people prescribing pesticides give little value to other life that depend upon the plants being sprayed, or the water, soil and air affected by pesticide treatments.”

Also a BC Problem

According to The Prince George Daily News, “timber companies are required by government legislation to eliminate the so-called weed trees in area they have logged or face penalties. A preferred way to accomplish this is to dump herbicide in massive doses on the land base. Manual,

non-spray brushing could potentially create many more seasonal jobs in the forest. Yet that method is little utilized today.” [4] According to the NGO Stop The Spray BC, between 10,000 and 20,000 hectares of BC forests are sprayed with glyphosate and other herbicides every year, mostly in the Central Interior. “This vast conversion of our forests from bio-diverse stands with many broadleaf species to conifer monocultures is required by law, signed off on by Registered Professional Foresters, and is supported by the Association of British Columbia Professional Foresters.” Stop the Spray BC spokesman James Steidle states that wildlife are “incredibly dependent” on the broadleaf trees considered “weeds” by industry and government. And those same trees in a mixed forest are better at sequestering carbon and controlling wildfires. Steidle notes, “As our planet continues to warm, biodiversity fades and forest fires grow worse, does it make sense to keep eliminating the trees with the highest biodiversity values, lower probability of flammability, and best ability to sequester CO2 and reflect solar radiation from our forests? Obviously not.” [5] But timber companies and our provincial governments are actually spending millions every year to do precisely that. Quebec, however, is the exception. Chemical herbicides were banned on Crown forestlands in Quebec in 2001 – about 90% of the provincial forestland base. In 2008, the Quebec government reaffirmed its commitment to ecosystem-based management of public forests. [6] In March, the Prince George Citizen

reported that B.C. MLA Mike Morris is working on a private members bill to ban the use of glyphosate on provincial forests. [7]

Stopping the Rain of Death

Clearly, the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Elders of Ontario have raised a huge issue with their pending lawsuit. SumOfUs is raising funding for their legal fees and helping to alert the wider community. The TEK Elders are also planning to contact the World Health Organization (WTO) for assistance. The WTO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer has already classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”. [8] Information about the TEK Elders’ pending lawsuit also comes just days after the UN’s shocking biodiversity report, warning that one million species are at risk of extinction. That report was issued by the UN’s Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). UBC professor Kai Chan, one of the lead authors of the report, told the Toronto Star that “…the scale of change now requires us to pressure political systems and other institutions to overhaul national and global economies. ‘Nature isn’t broken. But you could say that our institutions are not fit for purpose,’ Chan says. ‘Really, what we need to do is fix them’.” [9] That comment may be applicable to Health Canada, which seems to have been captured by Bayer-Monsanto and the pesticide industry. The UN biodiversity report also specifically urged policy-makers “to recognize and respect Indigenous institutions, values, innovations, practices and knowledge, and to engage with and consider Indigenous communities,

something they note is currently sorely lacking.” [10] The Traditional Ecological Knowledge Elders of Ontario know the brutal truth of this, and now they’re going to court. That seems to be the only way to stop the “rain of death”. Note to readers: please share. Forward this article to your email lists. Glyphosate Linked To Autism; How To Detox This “Sleeper Toxin” From Your Body By Ethan Huff

www.naturalnews.com

A

S MANY AS one out of every two children is expected to be diagnosed with autism by the year 2025, and research scientist Dr. Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., has concluded that one of the most prolific causes in the world today is the deadly crop chemical known as glyphosate. The primary active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, glyphosate was originally developed as an industrial cleansing agent to chelate heavy metals and other substances out of clogged pipes. When it was discovered that glyphosate can also kill microbes, it was eventually transformed into what would eventually become one of the most widely used weed killers in conventional agriculture. But research compiled by Dr. Seneff in conjunction with data published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that, contrary to claims by Monsanto that glyphosate is “safe” for humans, the chemical’s use is directly associated with rising rates of autism over the past several decades. Data released by the CDC back in 2014 shows that one in 68 children now falls on the autism spectrum – up from about one in 2,000 children back in the 1980s. Interestingly enough, autism wasn’t even on people’s radars

until glyphosate hit the scene, as rates of the disease rose sharply alongside the increased use of glyphosate in chemical agriculture. Besides autism, glyphosate is also linked to a number of other health conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), food allergies, asthma, leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel disease (IBD), Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, heart disease, and cancer – a phenomenon that Dr. Seneff describes as “devastating.”

Sulfur-rich foods are among glyphosate’s worst enemies

And it isn’t just Dr. Seneff who’s saying this. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded several years back that glyphosate is a “probable carcinogen” in

humans. And yet it continues to be sprayed on conventional and genetically-modified (GM) soy, corn, canola, beets, peanuts, and legumes. But glyphosate can simply be washed off the finished product, right? Wrong. Not only do plants absorb glyphosate into every single one of their cells, but it can also combine with other toxins to increase toxicity exponentially, resulting in hormone disruption, damaged metabolism, impaired liver function, and imbalance in the gut microbiome. This is why Dr. Seneff stresses the importance of glyphosate detoxification, which she says will help to remove this so-called “sleep toxin” from the body so as to minimize the harm it causes. Until glyphosate is completely banned from agriculture, there’s no way to avoid it completely, especially since it ends up in almost every type of food that’s not certified organic or grown at home away from

the chemical sprayers. When glyphosate sticks around in the body, it prevents red blood cells from maintaining healthy levels of vitamin C, which is important not only for immunity but also for blood vessel and heart health. Glyphosate can further lead to fatty liver disease, as it disrupts fructose metabolism and sulfate synthesis. Dr. Seneff recommends consuming a diet high in cholesterol, as glyphosate tends to strip this important nutrient from the body – seeing as how it’s a chelator and all. Eating wild-caught seafood and pastured, organic eggs is also important, as is consuming plenty of probiotic foods like yogurt, kefir, and kombucha, as well as sulfur-rich cruciferous vegetables like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower. Supplementing with sulfur-containing supplements such as alpha-lipoic acid and methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, will also help to replenish the minerals that are lost in the body as a result of glyphosate exposure. Be sure to also consume plenty of greens, herbs, and spices, including things like garlic, parsley, onions, cilantro, basil, and dandelion greens, all of which are powerful, natural detoxifiers. More Research Confirms WiFi Exposure Can Cause Irreversible Damage On Brains and Kids Are More Affected By B.N. Frank

ECENTLY PUBLISHED RESEARCH confirms older research – WiFi exposure isn’t good for brains or the rest of us. It’s also especially harmful to children. Bad news delivered by Dr. Surat P, Ph.D. Excerpts include: A recent study reviewed evidence from 23 controlled scientific studies which investigated the health effects of WiFi on animals, human cell lines, and humans to determine once and for all, whether WiFi has a detrimental effect on human health. The electromagnetic frequency of WiFi is pulsed rather than continuous. This is a critical issue, as pulsed electromagnetic frequencies have a larger biological impact. When the impact of pulsed electromagnetic frequency was observed in the brains of mice, it was found that exposure for 1–2 months was relatively modest and that the changes were reversible after removing the trigger. However, months of exposure led to severe irreversible effects on neurons and the brain. These results suggest that the changes induced by pulsed electromagnetic frequencies accumulate over time, with harmful long-term effects. The pulsed electromagnetic frequencies may be particularly damaging in young children due to the small size of their skulls and reduced skull thickness. This may increase brain exposure to pulsed electromagnetic frequencies. Pulsed electromagnetic frequencies have also been shown to be particularly potent in embryonic stem cells. As these cells occur at a higher frequency in fetus and children, it further puts them at risk, leading to effects on brain development. This effect is particularly striking considering that WiFi placements are a common fixture around schools these days. The different biological effects

of pulsed electromagnetic frequency exposure include oxidative stress, lower female/male fertility, neurological effects, cell death, and damage, changes in steroid hormone levels, calcium overload. Environmental Research. 164 pp.405-416. doi.org/10.1016/j.envres.2018.01.035 While some American legislators have introduced legislation to study the effects of WiFi exposure, there are teachers and parents in the U.S. and around the world who aren’t interested in waiting around for more research telling them what they already know. They want WiFi replaced with wired Internet in schools and other places kids spend long periods of time. Activist Post has reported about this before many times. more, becoming reactionary. Just like every other ‘revolutionary’ who is against something, they are never really free. How can an atheist or an anarchist ever be free when they are constantly opposed to something? When they are constantly fighting? These people are enslaved to their own thoughts about what they are fighting for or against and their own emotional reactions to it. Only through awareness can we be totally free, and only though awareness can we choose to remove ourselves from the games of duality, finding our innate wholeness. Freedom can only come through a deep understanding and a deep awareness of life. If your government is sick with ideologies and out of frustration you choose to react, rebel and become ideologically sick also, this only leads to chaos. Now, we’ll change course for a bit. When we use the word ‘paradise’ we associate it with outer beauty and also freedom. Interestingly the origin of the word: “Pairidaeza”, which is Persian for ‘a walled, enclosed, garden’ reveals the true nature of the idea of paradise: no matter how beautiful, the garden is still enclosed, you are still a prisoner. The same is true of the story of Adam and Eve, who, once eating from the Tree of Knowledge, became free from the confines of ‘Paradise’, with God releasing them and their potential. However, without developing our awareness, we’ve again created our prisons in the form of national borders, religious beliefs and egocentric ideologies. Our perception of freedom is always external: the Garden of Eden, protective government laws and financial wealth. We ask God to help us because we don’t want to take responsibility for our own lives and we don’t have the courage to experience our own divinity. And when God doesn’t help us, when the world doesn’t turn out the way we want, we blame others. A simple example of this is our typical love affair. Throughout our lives, many of us fail to grow to love ourselves, and when we do find someone else who loves us, we become overwhelmed with happiness. Very quickly we throw our happiness into the

other person’s hands thinking they’ll fulfill everything we desire out of life – but in doing so we have enslaved ourselves to them. How? For example, when they connect with someone else we feel jealous. When they don’t behave the way we expect them to, we become angry. We lack so much awareness of ourselves that we blame them constantly, and in doing so we imprison them in our own cells of expectations. This is the nature of every encounter with other people. Someone cuts us off on the road, we blame them as ‘idiots’ and become angry instead of taking responsibility for our patience, tolerance and expectations of others. The truth is that we never made a deal with them that they shouldn’t behave the way they do – we only project our ideals of responsibility onto them so they don’t make our lives more difficult. We never stop to think that the key to freedom is changing something inside of us, rather than something on the outside. To be free from all that binds you, from all that is false, from all that is ephemeral, to rid yourself of all that is imaginary and mortal is to experience the truth and the immortal within you. This is what the Hindu’s call “Moksha” (’emancipation’, ‘liberation’ or ‘release’) and what Mahavira spoke as “Kaivalya” (‘solitude’, ‘detachment’ or ‘isolation’). Freedom from past thoughts and future expectations is true freedom. Free to be, to exist, to experience joy, God, innocence, consciousness, is true freedom and is entirely, internally of the present moment. Freedom comes from being aware of what truly makes you happy and taking responsibility for this. You cannot change the world as even attempting to do this creates expectations that will imprison you once more. You can only change yourself and embody the message you wish to share.

Freedom to Respond “In spite of all similarities, every living situation has, like a newborn child, a new face, that has never been before and will never come again. It demands of you a reaction that cannot be prepared beforehand. It demands nothing of what is past. It demands presence, responsibility; it demands you.” ~ Martin Buber
