Stage 6 Ancient History

Curriculum focus: Students engage in the investigation of life in early societies based on the analysis and interpretation of physical and written remains. They examine the motivations and actions of individuals and groups, and how they shaped the political, social, economic and cultural landscapes of the ancient world. Students are challenged to reflect on the nature of evidence for the ancient past and utilise critical thinking in undertaking historical inquiry.

Stage 6 Business Studies

Curriculum focus: Students embark on an in-depth study of the nature and structure of business, giving consideration to the internal and external influences that affect business, and the effectiveness of management that enables business viability in a dynamic environment.

Stage 6 Economics

Curriculum focus: Students learn about economies at a micro and macro level, developing an understanding of economic behaviours of individuals through to institutions and governments, and consider contemporary economic problems in developing effective economic thinking.

Stage 6 Geography

Curriculum focus: Students study the characteristics and distribution of environments and the processes that transform these features, and consider the impact that local and global forces have on people, ecosystems and urban and economic activities.

Stage 6 Legal Studies

Curriculum focus: Students will explore and assess how the legal system functions both in Australia and globally. They will examine the institutions and procedures designed to mirror the evolving ethics and norms of society. Students will also delve into case law and contemporary legal issues across various areas of the law, helping to develop skills such as critical thinking, reasoning and judgement and empathetic understanding.

Stage 6 History Extension

Curriculum focus: Students extend upon their study of history by developing knowledge and understanding about how historians study events of the past to draw meanings and conclusions of their impact. Students explore influential ideas shaping historical interpretation and analysis, fostering a nuanced comprehension of historical narrative and research approach.

Stage 6 Modern History

Curriculum focus: Students study a range of significant people, ideas, movements, events, and developments of the modern world, and reflect and analyse upon influences of the past in their historical context. Students are challenged to employ critical thinking skills in their historical inquiry of the past, and develop empathetic understanding when considering a range of perspectives and interpretations.

Stage 6 Society and Culture

Curriculum focus: Students investigate social and cultural concepts, personal identities, and interactions within societies. Through an exploration of the interplay between personal experiences and public knowledge, students examine continuity, change and future prospects. Students are able to undertake a personal interest project, allowing them to develop important skills in research and investigation.

Stage 5 History Elective

Curriculum focus: Students continue to build upon their historical inquiry skills by embarking on a deep study of major historical events including (examples of topics).

Stage 5 Geography

Curriculum focus: Students compare changing geographical features and explain patterns of distribution over time, analyse global differences and assess strategies to address environmental challenges.

Stage 5 History

Curriculum focus: Students will gain insight into the key concepts, movements, individuals, and historical events that have influenced both Australia and the global community. As students study significant events such as the World Wars and the Civil Rights movement, they are encouraged to critically reflect on their significance and consequences. Students will refine and extend upon their source analysis skills through a consideration of the reliability of historical sources and the value they provide to those studying events of the past.

Stage 5 International Studies

Curriculum focus: Students explore a variety of cultures and belief systems, examining their traits, influences, and notable cultural events. Their study of this course will allow them to compare different cultures and challenge any stereotypes or biases they encounter. Through this, students will develop empathetic understanding, consider differing viewpoints, value diversity and rights, and challenge stereotypes.

Stage 5 Commerce

Curriculum focus: Students learn about their rights and responsibilities as a member of society by developing knowledge and understanding of consumer, economic, business, legal, political and employment matters. Students are able develop and refine real world skills, such as inquiry and analysis, problem solving and informed decision making.

Stage 4 History

Curriculum focus:

Students delve into the study of history, and historical inquiry by developing an understanding and appreciation of past civilizations, particularly those from the ancient and medieval times. They will also consider the ongoing impact of these historical periods on contemporary society. Additionally, they will commence developing their analytical skills by critically evaluating historical sources to discern their messages and perspectives.

Stage 4 Geography

Curriculum focus: Students explore different places, looking at what makes them unique and how they benefit people. They also consider how everything in a place is connected and how comfortable and enjoyable it is to live there. During this exploration, students learn practical skills such as mapping skills and fieldwork.
