There is a real calling to being a public servant. I’ve been in the VA For 24 years now. Early on, I understood that what we were doing was very special. In our medical center we have one common job: to serve our Veterans for their entire life. We’re here to make sure that they’re healthy, that they stay healthy, but also to help them: helping them get a job, helping them with education, getting them reconnected and reengaged, and they should expect no less…They’ve earned it. [To VA employee in hallway]: “How are we doing?” Serving Veterans is a privilege for all the obvious reasons. Our young men and women deserve the very best and everything that we can do to make that happen needs to be done. I am Fernando Rivera, Medical Center Director, Washington DC VA Medical Center. Fernando: America’s Veterans have come from all walks of life, and every corner of the nation to bravely serve in protecting our way of life. It is the privilege of the Department of Veterans Affairs to return that service with the excellent healthcare that our Veterans have earned…And it is the employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs, men and women from all backgrounds, who help make that quality healthcare possible by providing a vital service to the community, by sharing ideas in a supportive professional environment, by giving the best of themselves everyday, and by advancing to the top of their field. There are so many benefits to working for VA. We offer Veterans the largest,

most technologically advanced integrated healthcare system in the United States. We have 153 medical centers, 909 ambulatory and community-based outpatient clinics, 135 nursing homes, 232 Veterans centers, 47 readjustment counseling centers, and 108 comprehensive home-care programs across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories so you can work anywhere in the country and in a wide range of professions, from nursing or pharmacy to police or human resources management. We also offer competitive salaries…flexible scheduling…generous vacation, personal, and sick leave…10 Federal holidays…transit benefits…excellent, stable health and retirement benefits…exceptional education support and student debt reduction programs…and extensive upward mobility opportunities. VA is a public service agency that values diversity and inclusion in its workforce. So when you think about your future, consider the Department of Veterans Affairs where not only do we deliver the best care to our Veterans but we provide the best career opportunities for our employees. [new scene with women's voice and calming music] We honor our Nation’s Veterans with monuments and memorials. We honor them for their courage, for the sacrifices they have made, and for the promises they have kept. The Department of Veterans Affairs honors our Nation’s Veterans by keeping the promise made to them…The promise to provide the best healthcare possible, through state of the art facilities; advanced research;

primary, emergency, and specialized care of all kinds. VA has the technology, the experience, and the dedication it takes to provide the best healthcare possible to Veterans of all ages. We offer a team environment, opportunity for career advancement, and the rewards that come from caring for America’s best. Who we need is you, the healthcare professional. The Department of Veterans Affairs…help us keep the promise to our Nation’s Veterans.
